Symbols on the dishwasher

Dishwasher iconsAfter purchasing a dishwasher, before starting it, the user has to look in the instructions for a decoding of all the symbols and icons on the control panel. It is not always possible to intuitively guess which symbol means what. At the same time, the wrong choice of mode can not only affect the quality of the wash, but also ruin the dishes. If for some reason you don’t have detailed instructions at hand, then this article is for you.

Icons on the control panel: their explanation

In built-in dishwashers, the control panel is located at the end of the door. In most cases, all buttons are indicated by small icons in the form of a pan, glass, sun, etc., such icons allow you to compactly and neatly place all the necessary buttons. In freestanding dishwashers, the control panel is placed on the façade. In addition to small pictures, the buttons are sometimes labeled, but in English, which not everyone can translate. Therefore, you have to refer to the instructions more than once until you remember all the symbols.

Let's look at the different icons on different dishwashers. For example, symbols on Bosch dishwashers.

The program launch button is most often labeled “Start”, and the inscription “Reset 3 sec” means the program is rebooted when pressed for 3 seconds. In addition to the symbols indicating programs, there are also symbols on the indicators; they are the same on almost all dishwashers; you can read their explanation in the article Bosch dishwasher indicators.

Let's look at the main designations of Hotpoint Ariston brand dishwashers:

Ariston dishwasher control panel

  • the designations under the number 1 are indicator labels, the one signed with the letter S is a salt indicator, and the one with a cross next to it is an indicator of the presence of rinse aid;
  • symbol 2 – intensive washing program;
  • symbol 3 – normal washing;
  • symbol 4 – economical program;
  • symbol 5 – quick washing and drying program;
  • symbol 6 – soaking;
  • symbol 7 – program for washing fragile dishes, you can wash crystal;

For your information! Inscriptions on the control panel in the form of the following symbols - h2, h3, h6, h9, etc. indicate the delayed start time of the program, 2 hours, 3 hours, etc. And the symbols P1, P2, P3, P4, P5, P6 are the designation of the program, i.e. program 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6.

The designations on Beko brand dishwashers shown in the figure below are slightly different.

There are some peculiarities in the designations of Asko dishwashers.

You may also encounter the following symbols and inscriptions:

  • a drawn star (My Favorite) – means the ability to remember a frequently used program;
  • the Delay inscription next to the clock is a delayed start function;

Bosch dishwasher markings

In addition to the designations and signs on the panel of dishwashers, some users are interested in the letter designations in the names of dishwashers. Let's look at the labeling of the machine using the Bosch dishwasher model SPV 53m00ru as an example.

The first symbol S stands for spueler, which means that this Bosch machine is designed for washing dishes, and therefore all dishwashers have this symbol. The second letter is the generation of the dishwasher and its width. There can be six of them:

  • R – narrow car (45 cm) of the old generation;
  • P – narrow machine (45 cm) of a new generation;
  • G – full-size (60 cm) old generation car;
  • M – full-size (60cm) new generation machine;
  • B – high full-size machine with a height of 86.5 cm and a width of 60 cm;
  • K is a new generation compact dishwasher.

For your information! Dishwashers of different generations have different spare parts and water supply systems, which affects the repair of equipment.

The third symbol indicates the type of dishwasher depending on the installation:

  • S – free-standing;
  • I – partially built-in;
  • V – fully built-in;
  • U – partially built-in with a stainless steel door front.

Next in the marking there is a number indicating the model’s configuration. Varies from 4 (basic configuration) to 6 (with a large set of programs). The next number is the equipment of the model in a certain series of machines, for example, 8 informs about the presence of a pull-out tray for cutlery in the machine.

The next letter means the class of the dishwasher, there are five in total:Bosch SPV 53m00en

  • E – junior;
  • N – lowest;
  • M – average;
  • T – highest;
  • U – premium.

The next two numeric characters are information for the manufacturer. And the last two letters indicate the market for which the model was produced. RU – for Russian, EU – for European.

In our example, the Bosch SPV 53m00ru dishwasher, judging by the markings, is a fully built-in machine of a new generation with a width of 45 cm. It has additional functions, since the equipment is higher than the basic one, which classifies it as a middle class machine. This model is available on the Russian market.

To summarize, we note that most of the symbols found on the control panel of dishwashers of different brands are similar. Most of them mean one of the washing modes (main, intensive, fast) or function (drying, half load, delayed start). Be careful when pressing unfamiliar buttons; we hope our article will help you deal with them.

    Good article. Thanks a lot!

    But I still don’t understand what the numbers 88 mean for this Bosch SPS69T88eu model.
    It’s just that when I was choosing, there were two similar models, the difference was only in one number.
    SPS69T88eu and SPS69T78eu, so the one with the number 78 is $50 cheaper.
    So I was wondering what the last numbers mean?

  3. Gravatar Sergey Sergey:

    Yes, this is clear. What do the numbers after “/” mean? For example, spv69t70ru/14 or spv69t70ru/17?
