Is it possible to pour powder into the drum of an automatic washing machine?

Is it possible to pour powder into the drum of an automatic washing machine?Everyone knows that liquid detergent capsules can be placed directly into the drum for better benefits, that's what they are designed for. But is it possible to pull off such a trick with powder? Many netizens actively recommend this approach, although all instructions strictly state not to pour washing powder directly into the drum. So who is right after all?

The danger of such actions

Agree, if manufacturers of detergents or washing machines do not recommend pouring powder into the drum, then there is some reason for this. And it’s true, because liquid detergents are much softer and plus they dissolve well in water due to their structure. And the powder has a structure consisting of hard granular particles, some of which are colored. If such a granule gets on clothing, it may leave a stain.if you add powder directly to the drum, things may get damaged

In addition, hard powders and bleaches are very aggressive. If you place them in the powder receptacle, the machine itself will evenly distribute the product so as not to spoil the laundry. But if you put detergent inside an automatic washing machine, the clothes will invariably come into contact with aggressive chemicals, which may leave streaks or, worse, even holes on the fabric.

If you think that the powder in the drum, when well dissolved, improves the quality of the wash, purchase a special device in the form of a ball with holes into which the powder is poured. The ball is placed in the drum, and therefore the clothes will not be damaged due to increased contact with the detergent.

Similar powder containers are sometimes included with the washing machine.

Do not exceed the dose of detergent

Contrary to popular belief, the quality of washing is not directly proportional to the amount of powder. There may be a feeling that the laundry is fresher and cleaner, but this is only a deceptive impression, but problems from an overdose of powder are quite real.

  1. Clogged pipes. The solid powder is extremely poorly soluble. And if you throw a lot of it, the residue will inevitably settle on some parts of the car, dry out, and real problems will begin.
  2. Uneconomical. You will simply be wasting money by using twice as much powder as is needed for a good wash.
  3. Damage to things. This has already been discussed above.

Now the question arises: how to guess the amount of powder if each manufacturer recommends its own dose. There are generally accepted standards that say that per kilogram of laundry you need to add one tablespoon of the product. Accordingly, roughly estimate what proportion of the 6 kilograms you load is made up of your things and add the appropriate dose of the product.

Attention! For ease of calculation, load the machine completely. Then you will probably know that it contains 6 kg of laundry (or another figure depending on the load) and can easily calculate how many tablespoons of powder are needed.

Basics of Using a Powder Tray

There is a sign in front of each powder compartmentAs a rule, there are no problems finding a compartment for powder. On standard front-facing machines it is located in the upper left corner above the hatch door, and on vertical machines it is located on the side or on the inside of the hatch.

Why does the compartment have three compartments? This question is often asked by those who use a washing machine for the first time. Usually the first compartment is designated by the number I, the second by I.I, and the third by *.

For regular washing, use the compartment in the middle or the second one, as you wish. Powder is poured there or liquid is poured in. Compartments along the edges are used for special washing situations. The first is for heavy soiling, if you choose some aggressive washing mode, and the last is for conditioner. Usually the machine uses the contents of this compartment already at the last stage of washing.
