Childproof in the dishwasher

child lockIn the characteristics of modern dishwashers there is an interesting function with the telling name "Protection from children." Why it is needed is clear from the name, but doubts arise in its real necessity. In this article, we will determine the need for protection from children in the dishwasher, explain how it works, and in addition we will find out on which models of the PMM this protection is installed.

Is such protection necessary?

Many mothers and fathers say that there is no need to protect the dishwasher from children, they say that they don’t show any interest in it, and even if they show they don’t have enough strength to open the door. Indeed, many PMM models are equipped with special locks that protect the door from opening during the implementation of the program. And the children themselves are not particularly keen on this technique, especially if it is built-in. And here we need to figure out which cars can cause interest in young children.

  1. Freestanding PMM. Such machines are separate from furniture and often become an object of interest in children.
  2. Partially built-in dishwashers. This technique will definitely interest a young child. Firstly, it is partially open for the baby’s eyes, and secondly, its control panel with seductively flickering lights is located above the door of the washing chamber, attracting the attention of a small researcher.

Some modern partially built-in PMMs have color displays, which become the object of attention of babies.

  1. Fully recessed PMM. Such machines are the most common. They almost do not cause interest in children, and that's why. Firstly, these cars are completely hidden from the eyes of the child behind the furniture facade. Secondly, due to the embeddedness in the furniture, these cars almost do not make sounds. Thirdly, their control panels are located at the end of the door, so that the baby can not see the display or flashing lights.

It turns out that the owners of fully embedded PMM are right, their children do not show interest in "home helpers", because they are hidden from prying eyes. Perhaps you should not bother with the purchase of a machine that has similar protection, maybe it is simply better to choose a fully built-in model? Although, of course, this is your choice.

In the event that a little tomboy nevertheless shows interest in a "home helper", you may regret not having bought a dishwasher with child protection. So it’s probably better to study the matter in advance and prepare for possible troubles.

How does she work?

Protection of this kind is divided into two types: mechanical and electronic. Mechanical protection? What is it? This is the most popular protection against baby intervention. It is found in many PMM models, but owners do not always know that their “home assistant” has such protection. Mechanical protection works very simply. Inside the door or next to it there is a special lock, a kind of gate valve. You can get to this valve through the groove with the help of a special lever, which plays the role of a key.

PMM door lock

After turning on the PMM, insert the lever into the groove and push it to the right. The valve will operate and then the PMM door cannot be opened. As soon as the washing program completes its work, again insert the lever and open the valve. Everything is simple.

Electronic security works differently. The door lock is locked by pressing certain keys on the control panel. Which buttons should be pressed can be found in the instructions. Electronic locking protects not only the washing chamber, but also the control panel itself. This is true for partially embedded PMMs. After activating the lock, the control panel stops responding. You can’t even turn off the dishwasher from the on / off button.

Both types of protection work well. Mechanical protection is found mainly on low-cost machines, and electronic protection on medium and premium class cars.

What models are equipped with it?

We just have to see which dishwashers are protected from curious kids. We must say right away that there are a lot of such models, so we will only give a few examples in our short review.

  1. Hansa ZWM 475 WH. This narrow freestanding PMM with a basket capacity of 9 sets of dishes has electronic protection against child intervention. In our case, the protection blocks the buttons on the control panel. The cost of the model is 241 dollars.
  2. Korting KDF Also a narrow freestanding dishwasher with a cabinet width of 44.8 cm. It holds 9 sets of dishes, has 6 washing programs and a bunch of useful functions, including locking the control panel from children. The car is inexpensive - only 306 dollars.
  3. Vestel VDWIT4514X. Partially built-in machine with a narrow body and a capacity of 10 sets of dishes. It has an electronic lock and a stunning design. It costs about 314 dollars.protection of PMM from children
  4. Schaub Lorenz SLG SW Narrow freestanding dishwasher with seven washing programs with a capacity of 10 sets of dishes. Its design is simple, but it has many useful functions. There is also electronic protection against child intervention. The average cost of a model is $ 330.
  5. Daewoo Electronics DDW-M1411S. And this is no longer a small machine, but a full-sized household dishwasher with increased capacity and a bunch of functions. The baskets of this machine hold 14 sets of utensils, and in the “arsenal”, among other functions, there is an electronic lock. The model is inexpensive - $ 390.

There are no Bosch or Electrolux cars on our list. We deliberately did not mention them again, since these well-known brands already know so much. Suddenly you will find our publication for advertising. We consider it our duty to remind once again that our articles do not advertise the products of companies manufacturing dishwashers. Our publications are purely informational and are issued only in the interests of consumers.

So, we, in general terms, talked about the function that protects the working dishwasher from child intervention. If something else remains unclear to you, write comments and be active in the forum. We will be happy to enter into a discussion with you!
