Do it yourself replacement of the door handle of the hatch of the washing machine!

The door handle of the washing machine door has brokenUnfortunately, all the details of the washing machine have one or another service life. They may periodically fail. In addition, they may become unusable due to improper handling. If the handle of the hatch door has broken, then it must be changed. Usually the component of the handle that is made of plastic breaks off. This is a fairly common breakdown.

Before proceeding with the replacement, you must disconnect the machine from electricity. Then you need to remove the door itself. It is fixed to the body with two bots. They can be twisted using a screwdriver or an asterisk (different models have different models). After that, we put the removed hatch on a solid flat surface so that the bolts connecting it are on top. We will have to unscrew these bolts. Then, using a slotted screwdriver or a knife, you need to pry off the part of the door located at the top and remove it.

Now we turn the door of the washing machine and unfasten the outer part from the one inside. After that, remove the glass part and put it aside. And put the inside back on a dense flat surface. So we get to the handle that needs to be replaced. Then we recommend taking a photo of her location and fixing methods. Photography will help us not to make a mistake when we collect the hatch.

The plastic handle is fixed with a pin. This pin we must carefully remove. To do this, move it to one side and then get it. When removing the pin, you can first remove the plastic handle. After the spring and hook. A malfunction is quite common when it breaks off as close as possible to the place where it is fixed with a pin.

Installing a new handle and assembling the hatch

We hope you have already purchased a handle replacement kit for your washing machine. As a rule, it is sold or ordered at service centers.

It consists of:

  • Plastic handles,
  • Metal pin
  • The hook that, when closed, enters the hatch lock,
  • And the return spring.

New washing machine hatch door handleInstallation of a new handle begins with the installation of a spring. It must be placed as the old one was located. That is, in a specially adapted place so that it enters into special holes. Then you need to install the locking hook. If you don’t remember how they should be located and fastened, then you can look at the photograph that you took earlier.

After that, we need to insert the pin. But you need to do this only in one hole. So that you can then insert the pen. To do this, hold the spring and pin with your other free hand. Then we insert the handle and fix it in the right place by extending the pin. The pin should go through the special holes on the handle and enter the opposite hole on the hatch. In the process of this part of the work, you will need to hold the handle in a certain position. This is done so that the end of the pin does not deviate and enters the opposite hole without problems.

When the pin finally takes its place, you need to check the correct position of the handle. It should be slightly laid aside due to the action of the spring. If the spring does not repel the handle, then you have placed it incorrectly. You will have to disassemble the handle again and reinstall the locking hook with the spring.

Then we just need to collect the door of the hatch of the washing machine and return it to the right place. Make sure that all parts are tightly connected and fixed with screws.
