Replacing the pressure switch for the washing machine (relay, level sensor)

Pressure switch for a washing machineReplacing the pressure switch is necessary when the washing machine is pouring too much water. This is the most common malfunction with these symptoms. Also, poor-quality laundry push-ups can also be associated with this breakdown.

A pressure switch, it is also a relay and a level sensor, is necessary in order to control the amount of water entering the tank of the machine. And if you are convinced that the problem is in it, then you need to buy a new level sensor in order to replace the one that broke.

How to choose and where to buy a level switch for a washing machine?

In order to buy exactly the pressure switch that we need, it is worth understanding one simple thing: you need to purchase exactly the part that is suitable for your model of washing machine. And for this you need to clarify the exact full name of your household appliances.

In general, a level switch can be of several types. Or rather:

  1. Three-pin
  2. And bicameral

The relay is marked with a two-digit number. The first number is the group number, and the other is the contact number. With these designations you do not have to bury your head. Just remember the name and model of your washing machine.

You can buy a new sensor at service centers involved in the repair of large household appliances. You can also purchase it online. To do this, use any search engine and find those organizations that sell spare parts for washing machines. And just call them.

How does a level sensor work?

Let's look at how the level switch in the machine functions. Before starting any washing, it is necessary to make a set of water in the tank. Water passes through the inlet hose from the water pipe into the tank of the washing machine. When water is drawn, it gets into the dispenser, where it rinses off the detergent or other detergent that you use for washing.

When there is already enough water in the washing machine for washing, the pressure switch informs the control module about this. The module, in turn, signals that the filling must be stopped. In the event that the level sensor has become unusable, it does not inform the module that the water supply needs to be stopped. Thus, the machine continues to be filled with water.

How to replace the pressure switch (level switch) with your own hands?

Replacing the pressure switch in the washing machineIn order to get to the pressure switch we need to remove the upper part of the washing machine. It is also called the lid. The cover is fixed with two screws that are located on the back of the machine. After unscrewing them, you must push the cover from the front of the machine back. This is done so that it comes out of the grooves. And it could be removed.

In most washing machine models, the level sensor is located on the upper left. In order to remove the pressure switch, you need to loosen the hose clamp and tighten the hose itself. Then remove all terminals with wires.

If you are worried that you will not be able to remember the position of the wires, then before you take them, you can take a photo on your phone or camera.

Before installing a new pressure switch, make sure that the terminals are not covered with any deposits and that the hose is not clogged. If anything, these parts can be further cleaned.

Next, remove the non-working level sensor and replace it with a purchased working sensor. Then we put the lid back on and start the test wash. That was all that had to be done. And now we just have to wish you the best of luck in replacing the pressure switch yourself!
