How to replace bearings in an AEG washing machine

How to replace bearings in an AEG washing machineSome components of the washing machine wear out over time and cease to function at full capacity. Bearings are no exception. A few years after buying the washer, during its operation, you can notice the appearance of noise, knocks, vibrations. If the situation is not corrected in time, then the usual rattle will turn into an annoying rumble.

Replacing the bearings in the AEG washing machine is a rather time-consuming process, the ideal option is to send the machine to the workshop, professionals will quickly and accurately make repairs. However, you can save money and try to make a replacement yourself, our instructions will help you with this.

Trying to get to the tank

To remove the bearings with your own hands and install new components in their place, you will have to disassemble the CMA tank. For this, the element must be removed from the unit body. This process is not easy, because in order to carry out such a procedure, you will have to get many details from the machine.

We advise you to have a camera on hand and capture the process of disassembling the equipment, this will help in the future to accurately assemble the unit.

To get to the tank and freely remove it from the washer, carry out the following algorithm of actions:

  • remove the top case cover. To do this, use a standard Phillips screwdriver to unscrew the two self-tapping screws holding the wall;
    remove the top cover of the case and remove the detergent tray
  • remove the detergent tray;
  • remove the sealing gum around the hatch - loosen the clamp holding the cuff and insert it into the drum;
  • disconnect the control panel, for this, unscrew all the screws holding it. To prevent the panel from interfering with operation, carefully move it to the side. Be careful not to break the contacts;
    unscrew and remove the control panel
  • remove the upper metal bar;
  • unfasten the lower bezel on the front wall;
  • Unscrew the self-tapping screws holding the front of the case located at the bottom and top of the wall. When you pull the cover towards you, you will see the contacts of the sunroof lock device. It is necessary to remove the casing and pull out the UBL wire. Then pull the wall and put aside;
  • disconnect the front and top counterweights of the washer;
  • remove the drain pipe;
  • unfasten tank shock absorbers;
  • disconnect the pipe from the pressure switch and remove the water level sensor;
  • unscrew the dispenser from the fasteners, remove the filling valve, to do this, drown it in the housing and turn it to the right. Dispenser connected to the valve, put aside;
  • disconnect the noise filter;
  • remove the back wall of the machine, remove the drive belt from the pulley, disconnect the contacts leading to the heater, as well as the engine wiring.

After performing the described sequence of actions, you will have free access to the SMA tank. Now you need to carefully remove the element from the body of the machine.

Tank preparation and disassembly

After the tank is empty, it is necessary to disconnect the pulley, motor and heating element from the structure. Then, using pliers, remove the two shock absorbers located on the surface. The vast majority of washers AEG are equipped with non-separable tanks, so the element will have to be sawn.

For the next stage of work, you will need a drill with a long drill with a diameter of 6 mm, five fixing bolts with a diameter of 5 mm, several self-tapping screws (12-14), a degreasing agent, a water-resistant sealant, a thin saw with small teeth. The algorithm of actions will be as follows:

  • make 5 marks with a marker; on them when assembling the tank you can screw in the bolts in the right place;
    make marks with a marker at the locations of fasteners
  • use a drill to make holes at the marked points;
  • take a saw and cut exactly in the middle of the tank;
    grinder deepen the lip of the tank
  • Using a grinder or a soldering iron, slightly deepen the wall of the lip of the tank, as shown in the figure. This will help you with further assembly;

use a soldering iron to make holes for the screws in the edge of the tank

  • pull the drum out of the tank body, inspect the shaft for the presence of a working out, it should not be. Clean the bushing if necessary.

After the drum is removed to the side, you will see the mounting location of the bearings and stuffing box. We proceed to the next stage of work on the direct replacement of components.

Change bearings

Before you get out of order parts, remove all dirt present on the surface. To remove the old bearings and stuffing box, it is necessary to prepare a drift and an ordinary hammer. Place one end of the bench tool in the gland area, gently hammer on the top edge of the punch. With these steps, you can easily clean your old parts.

The inner bearing is pushed out into the tank, after which the tank must be turned over and the second, outer bearing removed.

Before putting new parts, it is better to wash the surface of the tank and drum. After cleaning the parts, you can proceed with the installation. For this procedure, it is best to have a puller, the tool will allow you to gently push the bearings into place. However, in the absence of a puller, you can use a flat drift.

When the bearings are put in place, you can put the gland. Masters recommend smearing the gum in a circle with ordinary superglue for more reliable fixation of the part. The sealing ring should be treated with a special lubricant for the bearings and seals of the SMA, it needs to completely clog the lip of the element. Also, do not forget to treat the drum sleeve with a lubricant.

place of installation of bearings and seals

You can begin to reassemble the tank. To do this, the saw seam is degreased around the entire circumference. Then a drum is inserted into the tank. After the degreasing procedure, a heat-resistant sealant is applied to the edges of both parts of the tank in a continuous layer.

After the walls are smeared, connect the two parts of the tank. Then screw the fixing bolts into the holes marked at the beginning of the work. Prepare a soldering iron, screws and a screwdriver. Using a soldering iron, make recesses on the connecting seam in a circle, with a step of about 5-8 cm. After that, insert a self-tapping screw into the hole and deepen it with a screwdriver.

The tank reassembly process is complete. It remains to attach the previously removed engine to it, insert the heating element, pulley, put on the drive belt. After that, the automatic machine is assembled in the same order as it was understood.
