Replacing and cleaning the filter of the dishwasher

replacing the filter in the dishwasherTo prevent a quick breakdown of the dishwasher, you must at least sometimes monitor it. According to the recommendations of specialists, a small preventive cleaning should be carried out approximately once every two weeks. This prevention comes down to cleaning the filter. If the dishwasher has been in use for a long time, you should consider replacing the filter. Replacement and cleaning features of the filter "dishwasher" - this is the theme of our story.

Dishwasher trash filter and its elements

Any user of the Bosch dishwasher (and another brand) who has taken the time to read the instructions for it knows where the trash filter is. In a good way after buying, installing a “dishwasher” and its first trial run, the first thing you should do is figure out the garbage filter, find it, unscrew it, consider all its elements.

replacing the filter in the dishwasherThe trash filter is located at the bottom of the tank of the dishwasher. In this case By tank we mean the inside of the machine, the bunker in which the baskets for dishes are installed. And in which we put dirty dishes. If we pull out the notorious baskets for dishes, then at the very bottom of the tank of the Bosch dishwasher, we will see a rotating plastic sprinkler. To the right or to the left of it is a screw-out element that looks like a glass - this is the garbage filter, which consists of the following elements:

  • from a flat metal mesh called a fine filter;
  • from an external coarse filter similar to a fine-mesh glass, which is located directly under the mesh;
  • from the internal coarse filter that is inserted into the external filter. It is also placed under the net.

The trash filter is designed to trap food debris washed off from dirty dishes and to prevent these debris from entering the circulation pump.

As you know, quite a lot of these residues will accumulate on the filter, even though the dirty dishes will be cleaned before they are placed in the wash basket. If the fine mesh, and even more so the coarse filters, become clogged with dirt and grease, the water will no longer leave the tank back into the circulation system and the Bosch dishwasher will stop working.

Important! After each dishwashing, look at the bottom of the tank and check the condition of the metal mesh, if pieces of food and other dirt are clearly visible on it, it is better to conduct an extraordinary cleaning.

Clean the filter correctly

To properly clean the filter of the Bosch dishwasher, you do not need to have any special knowledge or skills, anyone can do this simple job. The main thing is to do everything on time and not to allow blockage to form, because the blockage will lead to damage to the machine. Each brand and model of the dishwasher may have its own characteristics regarding the cleaning of the trash filter. The shape of the filter, its location, the features of the pickup may differ, so we will describe a typical procedure that suits most dishwashers. And so, in order, we do the following.

  1. We take out all the excess baskets from the tank that will interfere with cleaning the filter. As a rule, this is one bottom basket for dishes.
  2. We twist clockwise the external coarse filter.
  3. We take out the fine mesh and take out the internal filter.
  4. We arm ourselves with an old toothbrush and a toothpick and begin to clean the filter elements from greasy deposits and dirt. Usually, the filter is cleaned under running water, but if there is a lot of dirt and grease, you can put parts of the filter in a bowl of water, add dishwashing detergent and soak it briefly, then proceed with cleaning.
  1. All items need to be cleaned well, especially the fine filter mesh. For removing cleaning the dishwasher filterdirt from hard to reach places use a toothpick.
  2. Next, remove the impeller bar and clean all holes of the sprinklers with a toothpick from dirt and water stone.
  3. Now we arm ourselves with a rag and brush and thoroughly clean the bottom of the tank at the filter location. A lot of fat usually accumulates under the net, especially in cases where the user saves detergent.

By removing the blockage, you can safely collect the filter and put it in place, but before that, carefully inspect each element. By the way, you need to clean not only the filter, sometimes it is also necessary to clean the tank and the outer part of the dishwasher on how to do it right, you can read in the article How to clean your own dishwasher.

The plastic cup and plastic grill should be intact, the fine mesh, should also not have visible damage. If you find broken elements on the external or internal filter, or if there are damages on the metal mesh, it is better to change the filter of the Bosch dishwasher (or another).

How to understand whether the filter is subject to replacement and how to change?

Replacing the filter is nothing complicated. Actually, what's complicated, unscrewed and threw away the old filter, took it out of the packaging, assembled and put in a new filter - it takes three minutes. But in fact, the whole "salt of the question" is not even in the process of replacing the waste filter, but in how much such a replacement is advisable, and whether it should be made at all.

By the way, the cost of a new coarse filter can reach up to 3500-4000 rubles, although it looks like a simple plastic part, though it was produced somewhere in Germany or Italy.

Many users of dishwashers wonder: why buy and install a new filter when the old one, even when damaged, works well, collecting dirt? Why spend a ton of money when everything is working properly? Actually, thinking like that is a big mistake, everything can turn into an expensive repair. Imagine that you left a damaged coarse filter in operation, which in this case can happen.pump

  • Part of the food residue will still settle on whole parts of the mesh of the damaged filter, but some part of the dirt will slip through the damaged element.
  • Getting into the circulation pump, the dirt settles inside the tanks, pipes, heating element.
  • In the best case, this leads to a deterioration in the quality of washing dishes, and in the worst case, due to dirt, the heating element can burn out and the circulation pump can fail.

Now let's count. Replacing the trash filter will cost you an average of 2500 rubles. Replacing a heat circulation pump, which may break due to unsatisfactory filter operation, is an average of 7,000 rubles, and this does not take into account after the crisis margin. Here is such arithmetic. What to do in this situation, and whether you need such an approach - decide for yourself, we only provided objective information.

Important! The high cost of spare parts for Bosch dishwashers (and machines of other brands) is due to the fact that they are often produced in Europe, where the cost of production is much more expensive, not to mention the difference in the exchange rate.

How to understand that the filter needs to be changed? In this case, everything is simple, if there are damages on the filter through which dirt can potentially slip, it must be changed. If it looks very scary (from time to time), but outwardly remains intact, it can be exploited without fear, simultaneously removing the blockage.

In conclusion, we note that cleaning and replacing the filter of the Bosch dishwasher will not take much time, even if you see such a filter for the first time in your life. Cleaning must be carried out on time and prevent blockage, because the blockage will cause the machine to stop and an error code will appear on the display.
