How to integrate a washing machine in the kitchen and bathroom

washing machine in the kitchenOriginal ideas of designers and technicians in the arrangement of living quarters allow each square centimeter of space to be functionally and rationally used. And all this thanks to the appearance on the market of embedded household appliances. So, for example, you can install a washing machine in the bathroom or kitchen so that the design of the room from this will only get better. How this can be done, we will describe in this article.

In the kitchen or in the bathroom: where is better?

It is impossible to answer unequivocally the question of where it is better to put the machine in the kitchen or in the bathroom. The main reason is that the owners themselves prefer the apartment. There is a category of people who, for various reasons, can be categorically against placing the machine in the bathroom or, conversely, in the kitchen. And even the dimensions of the room or the washing machine itself cannot change their mind.

But let's approach this issue from a technical point of view, and formulate the pros and cons of embedding the machine in these rooms.

The advantages of placing the machine in the kitchen are as follows:

  • firstly, all basic household appliances will be assembled within the same room, which will simultaneously control the washing process and the preparation of the pie in the oven or heating the food in the microwave;
  • secondly, due to the free space in the kitchen, which will be reserved for the "washer", you can free up space in a small bathroom;
  • third, the choice of a washing machine for installation in the kitchen is practically unlimited in most cases, even in a small room it is quite possible to find a place for a stand-alone machine of standard dimensions.

  • after washing, the machine door needs to be ajar, and this is not aesthetically pleasing and will violate the design of the room;
  • in a machine built under the countertop or in a freestanding one will not be able to store dirty laundry, as it will be visible;
  • and another drawback is that the powders stored in the kitchen next to the washing machine evaporate harmful substances that can settle on food.

Placing a washing machine in the bathroom also has its advantages:

  • by installing the machine in the bathroom, you can save space in the kitchen for a large table;
  • the toilet and the bathroom are the sanitary zone of the apartment, so it is great for storing dirty laundry and washing it; here it is quite possible to store powders and conditioners;
  • in the bathroom the machine is less audible, especially if you close the door, so it will not distract from household chores or eating;
  • in the bathroom you can constantly keep the hatch door open without fear of violating the aesthetics of the room.

The disadvantages of embedding the machine in the bathroom are as follows:

  • high humidity is dangerous for electrical appliances, therefore, installing a "washer" will have to carefully consider the wiring and connection;
  • choosing a car in the bathroom can be difficult, for example, in most typical apartments, the doorway to the bathroom is narrow and ranges from 55 to 60 cm, which means that it will be impossible to carry a machine with a depth of 60 cm, you will have to choose one of the smaller aggregates.

So, choosing between a kitchen and a bathroom, you need to focus on the most basic, namely in which room you need more useful space.

Choose a machine for embedding

All machines can be divided into three groups:

  • freestanding;
  • with the ability to embed;
  • fully recessed.

You can integrate any washing machine, even a free-standing one. The difference will only be in the way of embedding.The fully-integrated machine involves installation in a special niche in the kitchen, while the tabletop is mounted in a special way instead of the top cover of the “washer”, and the front door that covers the drum is attached to the mounts installed on the front of the machine.

countertop washing machineAn embeddable machine does not have such mounts. Such cars have only a removable top cover. However, they can be hidden inside a conventional kitchen cabinet, and the front door can be screwed to the side walls of the furniture, details about this type of machine can be found in built-in washing machine overview. A freestanding machine can be hidden in the same way in the kitchen or set it under the countertop.

In most cases, choosing a washing machine, many focus not on its ability to embed, but on the dimensions. After all, if the kitchen was made in advance, then you can’t put any machine in the niche reserved for it. For a bathroom, the size of the automatic machine is even more important, especially if the room is very small and the door is on the side of the bathroom.

Modern washing machines have become much more compact. The market offers a wide range of narrow units, the depth of which varies from 32 to 45 cm. In addition, there are special machines that differ in height, which makes it possible to install them under the sink in the bathroom. Height such mini cars no more than 65 cm.

In the case when it is supposed to integrate the washing machine in the kitchen only under the countertop, consumers are also interested in the color of the machine. Today there are such colors:colored washing machines

  • white;
  • silver;
  • the black;
  • red;
  • gray blue;
  • green;
  • golden;
  • purple.

Particular attention should be paid to the method of loading laundry of washing machines. Loading can be vertical or frontal. Top loading machines are great for bathrooms, as they are compact in size. Their width is almost 20 cm less than that of a standard front-loading machine.

It’s not very convenient to place a machine with vertical loading in the kitchen, because you have to abandon the additional countertop, or make a reclining tabletop and, if necessary, lift it.

Machine placement options and room design

There may be several options for placing the washing machine in two rooms. Consider these options illustratively.

The easiest placement option is to put the washing machine in the kitchen in an empty place.washing machine in the kitchen

The most common way is to integrate a washing machine in the kitchen under the countertop. Moreover, the color of the “washer” is of great importance. Optimally if it matches the color of other household appliances, such as a refrigerator, microwave, stove.washing machine in the kitchen

The best way from the design point of view to install the machine in the kitchen is to integrate it completely into the kitchen. This will expand the boundaries of the choice of design and color scheme of the kitchen. The washing machine is not visible, everything is designed in the same style.washing machine in the kitchen

When placing a washing machine in the bathroom, you need to think through the design of the entire room. So the car will become one of its full-fledged elements, and not a prominent white spot.

The technical side of the issue

The washing machine connection in the kitchen and in the bathroom is basically the same. In both cases, it will be necessary to carry out approximately the same procedure. We list them:

  1. organize the removal of the water pipe to connect the inlet hose;
  2. install a waste water siphon;
  3. stretch the wiring and install a moisture-proof outlet;
  4. first put the machine so that you can connect all communications;

    At the same time, check if the length of the hoses is sufficient so that you can freely extend the machine from the recessed niche.

  5. connect the machine to the water supply and drain pipe;
  6. put the machine in the designated place, adjust the legs.

Having decided to install a washing machine under the countertop, you need to correctly calculate all the dimensions of the future niche in which the machine will be located. Be sure to leave a gap between all the walls of the furniture and the machine so that the machine does not touch the walls during vibration. For more information on installation, see the article on how to integrate the machine under the countertop.

In this way, a washing machine today is not just a household appliance that facilitates our work, but also an element of the design of a bathroom or kitchen. The function of the room and its aesthetics will depend on what place will be allocated to the machine.
