Water remains after washing in the drum of the washing machine

Water in the washing machine after washingDamage to a washing machine can turn into a disaster for a busy modern person. However, not in all cases it is worth panic and sound the alarm, causing the master. Sometimes the problem is solved independently in some 10-20 minutes. What to do if there is water left in the washing machine drum after the end of the program? We will give an answer to this question.

The causes of the malfunction

If after the end of the washing program, taking out the laundry, you see that there is water left in the tank, then do not rush to panic. You need to carefully look at how much of this water is in the tank. Water could not completely merge, but could remain partially. The reasons for this may be:

  • The drain hose has been bent or a severe blockage has occurred in it.
  • the drain filter of the washing machine is clogged;
  • if the water has completely remained in the drum, and the machine was very humming during operation, then in 99 cases out of 100, this indicates a breakdown of the drain pump;
  • when a little water remains in the drum, then in this case the pump works, but the water level sensor is broken with a 95% probability.

We drain the water and fix the breakdown

The elimination of any malfunction should be started by disconnecting the washing machine from the mains and closing the water supply tap. Next, you need to check how the hose passes behind the machine body and if it is bent. And only after that we proceed to drain the water from the machine, having prepared a bucket for this, a low capacity and rags.

draining water from the washing machineWater can be drained through the drain hose by removing it from the siphon and lowering the bucket. At the same time, you will check whether there is a blockage in the hose itself. If the water exits normally, the hose is clean and after draining the water, you can reconnect it. Otherwise, the problem with water in the drum will be solved after cleaning the hose. To do this, disconnect the other end of the hose from the machine, and then use a small brush on the cable to clean it and rinse it with water.

If it was possible to drain the water through the hose, proceed to the inspection of the drain filter. It is located at the bottom of the machine behind a plastic panel or door. Unscrew the filter counterclockwise and pull it out towards you. If there is a blockage, rinse it under running water and replace it. If the filter is clean, then you will definitely have to check the drain pump.

Important! For emergency drainage of water, a small hose is provided in the washing machines, which is discharged next to the drainage filter. It is enough to open the cork on it and substitute the container to drain the water from the tank.

The pump on different models of washing machines is installed in different ways. In some washing machines, for example, Samsung and LG, this can be done through the bottom, but in German copies Bosch and Siemens will have to disassemble the front part, which complicates the repair process. Details about the nuances of this work are written in the article Replacing the drain pump.

And finally, if the reason for the remaining water in the drum of the washing machine is the inefficient operation of the pressure switch, you will have to check it. If the pressure switch sends an incorrect signal about the water level in the tank during the discharge process, then naturally water will remain in the tank. How to check its performance? To do this, you need:

  • remove the top cover of the washing machine;washing machine pressure switch
  • find a level sensor, usually located in the upper part in the corner of the machine;
  • disconnect the tube (hose) and wires;
  • inspect the tube for blockages, very often this is what causes the sensor to malfunction;
  • inspect the contacts and, if necessary, clean them;
  • using a multimeter, check the resistance of the water level sensor;

    Important! It is not necessary to blow air into it to check the pressotate, this can lead to its breakdown. The fact is that the sensors are different, for example, analog ones.

  • in case of a malfunction, replace with a new original sensor, connecting it to the handset, to the wires and screwing it into place.

Fault Prevention

Recently, service center masters have noted that the breakdown of drain pumps in new washing machines has become more frequent and occurs for 2-3 years of use. Perhaps this is due to low-quality components, and possibly with the installation of the machine, when the drain hose is significantly lengthened, thereby increasing the load on the drain pump. That is why we draw your attention to the fact that you must follow the manufacturer's recommendations for installation.

Blockage problems in most cases can also be avoided by adhering to the following rules:

  • Before washing, check the pockets of things for debris and foreign objects;
  • regularly flush the drain filter;
  • carry out cleaning of the washing machine, for example, using citric acid or special means.

So, the water remaining in the drum after washing is a sign of some kind of malfunction, which must be resolved immediately. If you take on the search for the cause, and even more so for the repair of the machine you are afraid of, then, at least before the arrival of the master, you need to drain the water from the washing machine. This will prevent the appearance of an unpleasant odor inside the tank. You will definitely be able to handle this.
