Washer draws water off

The washing machine is turned off and is picking up waterThe washing machine can spontaneously fill with water even when it is turned off. And this is a serious problem, which may result in the fact that your apartment will be flooded, and if this happens when you are not at home, then the neighbors below will suffer. What are the reasons why the machine suddenly begins to overflow with water, and how to eliminate and prevent them, you need to know each owner of the machine automatic.

Causes of malfunction

Water in the drum of the washing machine in the event of a breakdown can come from both the sewer and the water supply. You can understand this by color and smell, if muddy water slowly appears in the drum, then this is clearly water from the sewer.

At the same time, when the car draws water from the water supply without stopping, the Aquastop system will not save you from overfilling the drum with water. The leakage protection sensor is fixed in the washing pan and water will flow to the floor. Therefore, even the most advanced defense in this case will be powerless.

But what is the reason that the car is picking up water? There are two such reasons:

  • malfunction of the water supply valve;
  • malfunction of the siphon valve or its absence;
  • clogged drainage system, as a result of which water flows back into the drum through the drainage hose.

Important! If such a problem is caused by improper connection of the washing machine to the drain, then warranty repairs will be refused. You will have to fix the problem yourself or at your own expense.

Troubleshooting

So, when you see that the turned-off washing machine is picking up water, immediately turn off the water tap. Only then proceed with troubleshooting. Do not forget to disconnect the machine from the mains. If the solenoid valve became the cause of water intake, then it must be replaced with a similar one. Doing it yourself is easy.

Note! If the washing machine is under warranty, the valve should be replaced by a service center master. Otherwise, after independent intervention into the inside of the washing machine, the warranty on the equipment “burns out”.

Getting to the bulk solenoid valve is easy. In front-loading machines, it is located under the top cover of the chassis, and this is what you need to remove. In vertical machines, the side cover will have to be removed. But first, turn the machine so that it is comfortable to work, and disconnect the water supply hose. When you see the valve, disconnect the hoses from it, unclenching the clamps, and the electrical wires, remembering the polarity of these wires. Unscrew the valve from the machine body and remove it.

valve replacement in the washing machine

Note! On some models of washing machines, in order to pull out the filling valve, you need to remove the plastic box under the powder tray. Therefore, the replacement process may be somewhat more complicated.

Since the solenoid valves cannot be repaired, we take a new spare part and connect it to the hoses. We use new clamps for reliable connections. Then, observing the polarity, connect the electrical wires and fix the valve of the bay.

Before closing the lid of the washing machine, connect the inlet hose and start the test wash. Check the connection points for leaks. When you are sure everything is in order, reassemble the machine and reinstall it.

If water from the sewer collects in the drum, first clean the siphon to which the drain hose from the washing machine is connected. Well, if the reason is to connect to the sink, then read the article Siphon for a washing machine.

Precautionary measures

drain connectionAnd finally, how to avoid situations when a turned off machine is picking up water. Everything is quite simple, you need:

  1. After washing, close the water tap; if not, install it.
  2. Connect the anti-siphon valve, which prevents waste water from entering, back into the machine.
  3. Use a leakage protection system that is installed on the floor. As we noted, the washing machine protection system in this situation will not save.

We hope that the information in this article will help you prevent a flood, find the reason why water appears in the drum and quickly eliminate it. Good luck
