Why is the washing machine noisy?

Noise washing machineThe normal noise level for washing machines is indicated in the documents attached to them. For household appliances with a belt drive, it ranges from 60 to 72 decibels. For equipment with direct drive from 52 to 70 decibels. Yes, this is a completely audible volume. She is relatively strong, but not too strong. In that case, if the machine began to make a very loud noise, then, most likely, some kind of breakdown appeared.

Why is the washing machine making a loud noise?

As mentioned above, the loud noise of the machine often informs us that it has become malfunctioning. This may also be due to improper use of this household appliance. If the new washing machine makes sounds too loud at the first start, we advise you to stop washing and read the attached instructions. Perhaps you did something wrong.

What else can cause noise?

  1. You may have forgotten to unscrew the transport bolts. This kind of trouble usually occurs with those who install the machine for the first time and do it without proper experience and instruction. Shipping bolts are needed to secure the drum during transport. They are located on the back of the case. Before starting the machine, you must remove them and plug the holes with plugs. Plastic plugs come with a washing machine.
  2. It is also possible that the washing machine has the wrong installation. Her legs are not adjusted. In this case, it may stagger during operation. To solve this problem, you need to adjust them. The regulation of the legs is due to their twisting in one direction or another.
  3. Also make sure that the floor under your appliances is flat and solid.

The washing machine began to make noise recently

If before the machine worked well, but suddenly it started to make noise at different stages of washing, then most likely one of the malfunctions manifests itself in this way. Let's look at the possible causes and how they appear:

  1. There is a possibility that cracks appeared on the case where the legs of the machine or shock absorbers are located.
  2. Drum pulley loose. In this case, it is necessary to remove the rear housing cover and tighten the pulley fixing element.
  3. Engine backlash can also occur, or the bolts that lock it could loosen. In the case of bolts, they can simply be tightened stronger.
  4. Shock absorbers could also fail. They can be bought at a service center and replaced. Or call the trowel. And he will do it for you.
  5. Cracks could appear on the tank of the machine. In this case, replace the tank. It is very difficult to do it yourself. And for those who do not like to work a lot and dig into household appliances, in this case there is only one advice - call specialists.
  6. The springs that hold the tank on top could also break. Springs can be changed.
  7. The bolts that hold the counterweights could be loose. They can be tightened so tight.

Loud noise

The loud noise of the washing machineIf the noise is not particularly strong during washing. But when the machine begins to wring out, you notice that the washing machine starts to make a very noise and rattle, then most likely the reason is the bearing malfunction. To make sure that it is in them, you need to turn off the machine. Then remove all the laundry and try to manually rotate the drum several times. If there is no noise whatsoever, then they are working. And if you hear a soft tapping or rumble, then probably this is really a bearing malfunction. It is also worth checking the drum for any play. This can be done like this:

  • Turn off the washing machine first.
  • Put your hands on the drum. One on top. The other from the bottom.
  • Try pushing it up and down.

If the bearings are seriously worn, then you will notice a backlash from half to a whole centimeter. With this breakdown, the most loud noise arises precisely when the machine begins to wring out. This is because it is at this moment that the largest load on the damaged part occurs.

Bearing replacement

In order to repair a washing machine with such a breakdown on its own, it is necessary to disassemble it almost completely. We will need:

  1. Remove the front wall. To do this, you will need to remove the cuff, unscrew the lock screws, remove the bottom panel and the control panel from above.
  2. Remove the back wall. Usually it is removed very simply, you just need to unscrew the fixing screws.
  3. Remove the heater and take out the engine. Before you remove the engine you need to remove the belt.
  4. Disconnect tank. It is mounted on springs and shock absorbers.
  5. Disassemble the tank. Typically, a tank consists of two halves that are bolted. There are also solid tanks. Officially, whole tanks cannot be taken apart and then reassembled. But some craftsmen saw them with a hacksaw. And then assembled using self-tapping screws or bolts and a waterproof sealant.
  6. Drive out old bearings and replace them with new ones.
  7. Collect the machine.

This is really a lot of work. And we recommend that you think carefully before embarking on it yourself. If you are not ready for a long and difficult job, then just contact the professionals.

If you are ready to take it on your own, then the video that we posted below will help you. In this video you will see the whole process of disassembling the machine and replacing the bearings. Unfortunately, we could not find the video in Russian. But, even just repeating all the steps for the English master, you can independently replace the bearings. Watch the video:

In addition to the malfunctions described above, others can also be the cause. For example, a drain pump may make a noise. Usually this happens when a foreign body gets into it or its bushings are very worn out.

If the machine does not always make loud noises, then there is a chance that there is a certain object between the tank and the drum. Usually in this trouble you can hear a loud sound that resembles a crack. It can occur at different stages of washing.

What to do with this malfunction, this video will tell you:

Washing machine began to creak

If there was a creak or a whistling sound while the machine was squeezing, and you began to notice rubber crumbs on the door sealing cuff, the friction of the cuff and drum caused this noise.

There is a somewhat risky way to fix such a malfunction. You can fix a piece of “sandpaper” on the side of the drum of the washing machine. You can use scotch tape to fix it. Emery paper should have a small or medium fraction.

After that, start the machine for push-ups. During the rotation of the drum, the sandpaper will clean the rubber cuff in those places where the tank is in contact with it. Then you need to remove the "sandpaper" and turn on the machine in the rinse mode to clean the inside of rubber dust. After this procedure, you can start washing. The machine should stop making a creak.

My Indesit machine erases quietly. During the day, against the general background of the noise of the city, I don’t notice it, but at night I don’t turn it on 🙂
