How to shorten the drain hose of a washing machine

Shortening the drain hose of the washing machine is sometimes the only way out if its length is several times greater than the distance required to connect to the sewer. Twisting will lead to delays in the drain, and simple cutting will make it impossible to use special tips. It seems that the only true and affordable option is to simply trim the extra centimeters. So it would be if the drain hoses did not have special plastic tips necessary for a reliable and convenient connection to fittings, tees and other ways of connecting the pipe to the sewer pipe. In the future, finding a suitable replacement for them will not be easy and expensive, so you should understand that by removing them, you lose the opportunity to organize a full drain without additional gaskets and clamps.

If the last moment is not important, since the hose is inserted without reinforcement into the pipe outlet or placed in the sink, bathtub or toilet bowl, there is no need to take care of preserving the tips. Then the sequence will be as follows:

• we turn off the water supply tap by turning the corresponding valve on the water pipe;
• turn off the power supply by removing the plug from the outlet or lowering the corresponding machine in the shield;
• pull out the drain hose;

Important! Be prepared for water to remain in the hose.

• measure the required length and put a marker on the marker;
• Using a sharp knife, cut off the excess piece.

It remains only to return the disconnected hose to its place, as well as turn the water supply tap and connect to the mains. A little testing does not hurt: start the shortest cycle and switch to spin mode. If water flows out of the hose, everything is done correctly.

The considered option is far from suitable for everyone. When the drain hose is connected to the sewer through a siphon or tee, it is important to keep the fittings provided. In such cases, a too long pipe is shortened in a different way.

1. Disconnect the drain hose.
2. We measure the available space from the drain hole on the machine body to the point of connection to the sewer pipe. Precision is important here: the hose must not be tensioned.
3. Cut the hose in half.
4. We take one of the halves and cut off as much as necessary to reduce the length.

Important! It is recommended not to throw out the cut-off piece of the hose, as in the future it may come in handy for reverse extension.

5. We get a special connector. It is a plastic adapter and is purchased in diameter at any service store for 30-80 rubles.
6. Pull one part tightly onto the connector, followed by the other.
7. We fix the position of the hoses with silicone, metal clamps or electrical tape.

We shorten the hose back and test the machine for normal drainage. The check takes place in the standard way: we start the cycle and switch to the "Spin" mode. The main thing is that there should be no leaks at the junction. If drops are noticed - tighten the fixing elements tighter.
