Types of Dishwasher Drying

dishwasher-freeThe last stage that the dishes in the dishwasher goes through is drying. There are several types of drying, differing in the principle of action and, accordingly, the duration. We decided to describe each type of drying in detail, find out which one is better, pointing out their pros and cons.

Condensing Type Drying

The most common is condensation drying, which can be called natural. It is carried out by smoothly cooling the dishes after rinsing them in hot water. The steam coming from the dishes gets on the cold walls of the tank of the dishwasher and condenses. The resulting drops are collected in a special container. Condensation drying has a plus: it is the most economical drying option. Less: you have to wait a long time for the dishes to dry, which is why many people start the car in the evening, allowing the dishes to dry until morning.

Convection drying

Convection drying, also called turbo-drying, is carried out due to the hot air pumped by the fan. Thanks to this technology, drying is much faster, this is its plus. But here, in order to supply this air to the chamber with dishes, it has to be heated with a special heating element, and this is an additional cost for electricity. Many note that they do not always use a heat dryer, turning off the dishwasher after the last rinse cycle.

Turbo dryer is found in expensive models, and in cheap dishwashers, for example:

  • Electrolux ESF 9420 LOW - 21 thousand rubles;
  • Korting KDI 4530 - 23 thousand rubles;
  • Smeg ST2FABNE2 - 93 thousand rubles;
  • Miele G 4263 Vi Active - 57 thousand rubles

Conclusion! The presence of a turbo dryer does not affect the cost of the dishwasher.

drying types

Intensive drying

This type of drying requires a heat exchanger in the dishwasher. The air inside the washing chamber during the drying process does not move due to the fan, but due to the pressure difference. There is a heat exchanger around the machine’s body, inside of which there is cold water, on the contrary, it’s hot inside the machine, and this pressure difference is obtained. Also close to heat exchanger The air collector is also located, thanks to which air flows.

Intensive drying is much better than condensation drying, but it is slower than convection.

Zeolite drying

This is a new technology that allows the use of mineral as a heat source. A tank with a mineral (zeolite) is installed under the bottom of the tank of the dishwasher, into which moisture gets into the evaporation process. Under the influence of moisture, the zeolite heats up, generating heat. This heat then enters the dishwasher tank, which is why the dishes dry well. After drying, there will be no steam when opening the door, and this is another advantage of this drying.

During operation of the dishwasher, zeolite will not lose its properties. Zeolite drying technology is only present in premium class dishwashers, for example:

  • NEFF S 51T65 X2EU;
  • NEFF S 41T65 N2EU;
  • Bosch SMV 69 T 70 RU.

Intelligent Drying

dishwasher-freeAnother modern drying technology is Sensor Dry. It was first used in Miele dishwashers (MIELE G4263VI ACTIVE, Miele G4263Vi). The essence of this drying is that a special sensor is installed in the machine, which measures the temperature outside the dishwasher (in the room).

If the temperature in the room is high, then airflow is turned on in the dishwasher chamber. If the temperature, on the contrary, is low, then the water for the last rinse is heated to a higher temperature.

Drying class

The drying class in the dishwasher determines its quality, class A is the highest - the dishes at the outlet are dry, class B suggests that drops of water may remain on the dishes. Modern machines have a drying class A, we have not met others, and this does not depend on the type of drying.

But in practice, users note that in machines with condensation drying, dishes do not always dry well, although they have class A. Drying with hot air is better in this regard, and intensive drying will be optimal.

Thus, what type of drying is best for you, decide for yourself. If time is expensive, then without options, take a model with a turbo dryer. If the result is important, but at the same time you want to save on electricity, take a dishwasher with zeolite or intensive drying. It doesn’t matter how long the dishes dry, there are a lot of dishwashers with condensation drying, choose any.
