Replacing the heater in the dishwasher

The device of the dishwasher and washing machine has similarities, however, if you make a detailed comparison, it turns out that the "dishwasher" is simpler. Despite this, it has to be repaired as well as other household appliances. Here, with luck, it can work for ten years and never break down, but it can work for a year and start to “act up.” In the article, we will talk about replacing the ten of the “dishwasher”, about what is needed for the work, how to get to the faulty part, and how to understand if it needs to be changed.

How to understand that the time has come to change the heating element?

Modern dishwashers are equipped with an electronic self-diagnosis system. In the event of a malfunction with one or another element, the system will generate an error with a specific alphanumeric code. In some cases, there are problems with heating the water, but the system does not produce any errors. This is where you need to turn on your head, keep the problem on its own and start to find out what is the reason. We will do prevention.

• Turn the dishwasher upside down.
• Remove the back wall (if the machine is not built-in) or disconnect the bottom panel (if the machine is built-in). The bottom panel is removed as follows: disconnect the drain pipe from the heating unit, and then pull the entire panel towards itself, and it will be removed.

Important! It is not necessary to pull out the panel to the end, and it will not work, without unscrewing the fasteners inside the machine body, our task is to get to the temperature sensor, which will be located just at the top of the heating block.

• We check the sensor visually and with a multimeter. Pay particular attention to wiring and contacts. There should be no traces of burning and melting.
• If the sensor is working, but there is no burning mark, you will have to disassemble the Bosch, Electrolux or Indesit dishwasher further, and at the same time think about replacing the heater.

What will be required to make a replacement?

Each of the parts, including heating elements, dishwashers Bosch, Electrolux or Indesit changes entirely. It is very difficult to repair them, to say the least - it is impossible, especially on your own without a specialist. Therefore, it is most reasonable to remove and discard a broken part and put in a new one. If you adhere to this principle of work, then we do not need any special tools, however, prepare:

1. two screwdrivers - flat and cross;
2. multimeter;
3. pliers;
4. awl.

Of the components we need a complete heating unit and possibly a temperature sensor separately. On Bosch, Electrolux or Indesit dishwashers, the temperature sensor is removable. Do not rush to buy accessories. Experts advise that at first it will be 100% convinced of the malfunction of the heater, and only then make a replacement. The fact is that in dishwashers Bosch Electrolux or Indesit Ten cannot be changed separately from the heating block. The exception is some models, which we will talk about in more detail.

The heating block consists of a plastic case with bends for pipes and outputs for sensors. If there are no fasteners on the plastic case that would indicate that it is collapsible, then pulling out and changing the heater separately will not succeed. If the heating unit is collapsible, then it is possible to disassemble it and remove the burned-out ten, and put a new one in its place.

Important! A non-separable heating block with a heating element for a Bosch dishwasher can cost 3000-10000 rubles, depending on the model, a heating element on Electrolux - 3500-4000 rubles, a heating element on Indesit - 2500-3500 rubles.

Change the heating element: step by step instructions

If you are sure that the heating element has burned out and the water in the Bosch, Electrolux or Indesit dishwasher is not heated precisely for this reason, then you need to purchase an original spare part and proceed with the replacement. It is not a sin in passing to calculate the economic feasibility of the repair. If, for example, the dishwasher is already old and the “red price” is 7 thousand rubles, then what is the point of buying a flowing heating element for the same money, but of course you know better. Let's start replacing the ten in a dishwasher.

• To replace the flow-through heating element of the dishwasher, first open the hopper door and remove the dish trays so that they do not interfere.
• Disconnect the dishwasher from the network and unscrew all the hoses.
• Inside the dishwasher at the very bottom there is a plastic sprayer, remove it by pulling it up.
• Next, we twist a kind of plastic cup next to it - this is a filter.
• Raise and remove the stainless steel mesh to the side.
• We unscrew the five screws holding the nozzle and the flow-through heating block.
• Now turn the dishwasher upside down.
• Unscrew the back wall or pull out the bottom panel (this was mentioned above).
• The flowing heating element is connected to the pump on the side. Grab it with your hands and turn it half a turn clockwise, and then pull it to the side, the pump will be in your hands. Disconnect the sensor and put the pump aside.
• A flow-through heating element below holds the rubber fastener. Put your hand under the plastic case and disconnect this element.
• Disconnect the sensor plugs and nozzles, and then remove the burnt heating element, and replace it with a new one. Assemble the “dishwasher” in the reverse order.

As you can see, replacing a heating element is not complicated. Even if you encounter some nuances along the way, you can easily figure this out. Somewhere you have to pick up a plastic clamp with an awl (if you damage it, you will need to replace it). Somewhere to grab with pliers, who do not want to peel off the nozzle - these are trifles, the main thing is to be careful not to damage the fragile plastic parts, because their cost is now prohibitive.
