Tachometer in the washing machine: tachogenerator, Hall sensor

Tachogenerator for washing machine tachometerThe tachometer, aka tachogenerator, is necessary in order to take into account the number of revolutions. In addition, it measures the generated voltage. These are very important indicators that need to be correctly accounted for. Control over these parameters allows you to maintain the health of the machine, correctly execute all modes and programs. And besides, it helps protect the washing machine from many malfunctions.

When the tachometer fails, uncontrolled rotation of the drum occurs. That is, the number of revolutions may differ from the necessary. This can be seen when the machine is disturbed in the push-up mode of washed items.

The drum can turn on as it is necessary to perform this mode. When the washing machine is running, the rotor spins. And an alternating voltage appears. Data about it goes to the control module. He analyzes the information received and makes a decision on accelerating or decelerating the speed of rotation of the drum. If the rotation speed coincides with the necessary, then he can leave it as it is. Thus, the machine is monitored during the execution of all specified programs.

Some modern brands of washing machines, which are of high quality and reliability, use Hall sensors instead of the tachometer. They are installed in an electric motor.

Typically, these devices are used by the following manufacturers:

  • Siemens (Siemens),
  • The circuit of the tachogenerator of the washing machineBosch
  • and others.

This item has a fairly modest size. When installed, it is fixed on the fixed part of the electric motor. His job is to observe the magnetic field arising during rotation. This sensor has three special findings. They provide the necessary data to control the number of revolutions in the electronic control module of the washing machine. In accordance with these data, the module solves the issue of the need to add or reduce the speed of the drum.

Tachogenerator failure

If you decide that the tachometer has broken, then do not rush with further actions.

First, let's look at other possible causes of the malfunction that appeared:

  1. First of all, pay attention to the key that turns on the laundry. There is a possibility that it is clamped. And this is precisely what caused this problem.
  2. Check how tight the tachogenerator is. During operation, the washing machine vibrates. These fluctuations could weaken its fastening over time.
  3. Check the contacts with a tester (multimeter). In the inactive state, the normal resistance is one that is close to 70 ohms. If the resistance changes when the motor shaft rotates, then our sensor must be working.
  4. Another reason may be the lack of grounding. If a certain amount of charge from the drive belt falls on the engine pulley, the operation of the latter can become very unstable.

Check for damage data. If the whole reason is in them, then when you eliminate them, the washing machine will work fine. If, after eliminating these malfunctions, the problem remains, then either the electronic control module or the tachogenerator are broken.

In neither case, we do not recommend changing the part with our own hands. We advise providing this work to specialists. If you are confident in your abilities and possess the necessary skills, then you can do all the work of replacing the tachometer or module yourself.

Good day to all! I have a problem of this nature, I turn on the machine for the first time, while it is all cold, fulfills the entire cycle of any program by 5, then interesting. I expose the program, it erases, but before rinsing, i.e. he turned on, rinsed, drained the water and ... spins the drum to infinity at the same speed, but it is clearly lower than usual and nothing else happens, he checked the engine, it seems hot, but it puts up a hand. I checked the tachogenerator, the parameters coincide with your 70 ohms, etc. .. Can you tell me what ??? Thanks in advance.

It all depends on the brand of your SM. On old Samsung the relay of higher engine speeds failed.

My Tachometer gives 530 OM is normal or not. (I know that there is 165 OM.) The Zanussi FA 1023 washing machine either tries and fails, sometimes it doesn’t even start, or it depresses everything, in general, everything is somehow ambiguous, what’s wrong with it?

    • Gravatar Denis Denis:

On the Whirlpool AWG328 / 1, the tachometer has a resistance of 520 Ohms, and when the magnet rotates inside, the resistance changes slightly. Is this a normal sensor condition? Sensors on sale with suitable dimensions ext. D = 24mm ext. D = 39mm H = 12mm have a declared resistance of 70 Ohms ...

Thanks for the tips. He knocked over, checked the contacts, put the washer back in place and earned. There was a 3E error.

Good evening, I have such a problem with the Indesit washing machine: at the very beginning, the machine draws water into the tank (soaks things), drains the water. Re-fills the water, makes a 2-3 turn of the tank and begins to drain! It shouldn’t be like that! And the drain occurs until it is disconnected from the outlet. Can you tell me what the problem is? Thanks in advance!
And after the failure of the Indesit wil85 washing machine, the door (lock) indicator and the light ironing indicator blink, I will be very grateful in solving this problem!

Good time of day! My tacho shows 37 ohms is this normal?

Good evening! I have a problem with the Hansa machine, almost every wash gives an error E08. The washing machine stops and does not wring out, the filter is clean, the doors are checked. Maybe tell me what it can be and how to fix it?

Good evening! Kandy typewriter compact front-loading! Recently there was a problem with spinning - it does not give an error; it finishes the program normally (it displays End). Underwear remains wet! When I choose just spin, it may work, or maybe not! I start without laundry - it works out normally with a set of revolutions! When loading laundry, depending on the quantity and weight, it may remain wet! Before that, I changed the heater!

Try without things, also TEN changed on Virul. The problem was the uneven layout of the laundry. The woolen sweater is saturated with water and gives an overload.

My LG has 2-6 washes and a tachometer flies. Can you tell me the reason?

  9. Gravatar Alex Alexey:

Hello! My HANSA machine (2004 production) starts washing and after the drum makes a couple of turns it gives an error E21. Checked the tachometer for resistance. 228 Ohm, its dimensions are d20 / D31 / H13mm. Is he working?

My Samsung Bio Compact does not spin the drum, I can not find the tachometer. The error shows that he is. Help.

  11. Gravatar Sergey Sergey:

Please tell me, Washing machine Miele w3240. It turns at maximum speed when turned on, the resistance of 265 Ohms on the tachogenerator is normal and what should it be for this model? I climbed a bunch of resources - I can’t find it, please help!

  12. Gravatar Ivan Ivan:

Good day. Tell me the reason! I have an Indesit wi82 washing machine. The entire set wash cycle is good, no malfunctions. But as soon as the spin starts, it does not automatically turn off, but continues to spin. Disconnect manually. What is malfunctioning? Thank you in advance!

I have LG for 4 months changed 4 Hall sensors. What is the cause of a sensor breakdown?

  14. Gravatar Alexander Alexander:

I have a Samsung s821, the engine was originally burned out, I used it, I installed it. He began to twist at such a frantic speed, the tacho checked the sensor. What's on the old 40th engine, what's on the new 40th. I don’t understand which relay is responsible for the tacho sensor?
