How to dry a down jacket in a tumble dryer?

How to dry a down jacket in a tumble dryerIt is notorious that outer clothing should be washed automatically very carefully, otherwise the filler may fall into lumps and become unusable. But proper washing alone is not enough, because a thing can go bad during drying. That is why it is important to know whether it is possible to dry a down jacket in a tumble dryer, and if so, how to do it right?

Why is automatic drying preferable?

There are many reasons why experienced housewives recommend machine drying. First, physical effort. For an impressive period of time (almost a day), a person will not have to leave the down jacket alone: beat it, knead, shake, etc. If you allow at least the slightest delay, or cheat and rinse not thoroughly, the fluff will stick together inside, and it will be impossible to correct the situation. As a rule, these down jackets are sent out of town, to be worn away from people.improper drying will cause the filler to stick together into lumps

Secondly, the drying time. If suddenly a thing was washed in the winter, and even in a region with moist air, it will be practically impossible to dry it correctly. It is necessary to make maximum efforts so that the down jacket will dry for two days. If this does not happen, the fluff inside will rot and start to smell unpleasantly.

Vertical drying on ropes, as well as drying on heating appliances, is generally strictly contraindicated! In the first case, the filler is distributed unevenly inside the garment, and it will become shapeless. In the second case, synthetic fabric will suffer significantly from exposure to high temperatures, and will become unusable.

Of course, in this case, the dryer is the way out. The main thing is that there are no contraindications for use.

Important! Please note that after washing, when the fluff inside absorbs huge volumes of water, the thing becomes several times more weighty than before water procedures. A machine with a loading volume of up to 4 kg is unlikely to cope with such a weight. It is advisable to use a 5-6 kg machine.

Alas, not every model includes a drying mode for down jackets and other similar wardrobe items. However, if there is no such program, it does not matter. Just choose the most delicate, with the lowest temperature. If necessary, repeat the cycle 2-3 times. Do not forget to first zip all pockets, locks and zippers, as well as turn the down jacket inside out. Experienced housewives recommend the following trick: so that the fluff does not roll, put three tennis balls (just soft ones!) In the drum, they will bounce off the walls and knead the filler of your thing.

In any case, you need to keep in mind that how a down jacket will undergo such procedures depends largely on its quality. It is not possible to 100% find out the origin of the filler or the lining material, for example. Be prepared for the fact that automatic drying will be imperfect, and flaws will remain in some places, although this is not a fact!

But do not worry, you still need to try. High-quality things that served their owners many years before, for sure, they will survive the drying in the machine with a bang. Do not walk in a dirty and crumpled down jacket until the end of life.

Instructions for automatic drying

Before starting work, carefully read the instructions for the procedure again. Maybe your mistake will not lead to a fatal outcome, but you still need to play it safe.

  1. As soon as the washer has finished its work, take out the thing and transfer it to a volumetric basin. Since spinning, especially at high speeds, is not recommended for a downy product, there will be a lot of water inside it, which can interfere with further drying. Therefore, lay the jacket on a horizontal surface and leave for an hour.
  2. Put the item in the dryer drum, and remember to put tennis balls, if any. Set a specialized mode for drying outerwear. In its absence, you can try the program "duvet" or "easy blowing."

Attention! Choosing a mode, be guided by temperature parameters and power of turns. The temperature should be as low as possible, and the number of revolutions, on the contrary (the optimal choice is 100 per minute).

  1. After completing the operation of the unit, remove the item from the drum and make sure that it has dried out, if it has been damaged, etc.

If it seems to you that moisture has remained in the filler, you can safely repeat the cycle in the dryer, or if the down jacket has dried almost completely, lay it on a horizontal surface in a well-ventilated area. In an hour, the surplus will disappear, and the thing will become usable again.
