How to wash a cotton blanket in a washing machine

Wadded blankets are still a popular household item, and all because its filler is completely natural, but it retains heat very well. However, any blanket is still a dust bag, so you need to wash it regularly, but doing it manually is incredibly difficult. And here the question arises: is it possible to wash a cotton blanket using automatic washing?

Is it worth shoving a blanket into a typewriter?

The answer to this question is not entirely clear. The fact is that the material of the cotton blanket itself allows itself to be washed in a washing machine, but there are several limitations. Unlike a kids' blanket, for example, a cotton product is very large and heavy and might not fit in the drum of a washing machine. Therefore, it is better to machine wash baby blankets of a small size.

Some argue that the blanket is not so large as not to fit in the washer. However, keep in mind that washing in principle will not be of high quality, due to the fact that the blanket in the drum will not unfold. In addition, cotton wool absorbs water, so the blanket will become many times heavier than before loading. Do you remember that drum overload is fraught with consequences?

If it comes to washing a small blanket, follow a number of rules.

1. Wash the product in delicate mode. It may also be called “Hand Wash.” Some models have a program called Gentle Mode, but in essence they all mean the same thing.
2. The temperature should not exceed 40 degrees.
3. It is better to refuse automatic spinning and then manually spin it.
4. It is recommended to put special washing balls in the drum so that the filling of the blanket does not stray into lumps.

Important! If you still insist on automatic spinning, the number of revolutions should be minimal!

How to manually squeeze a cotton blanket? While it still lies in the typewriter - carefully shake it with your hands so that excess water remains in the drum. After the product is removed from the unit, you can repeat the same procedure, or wrap the blanket with terry towels and roll it into a roll. Then the towels will take on all the excess moisture. By the way, this method significantly saves forces, since the terry assistants will do the main work. You do not have to strain your hands to properly squeeze out all excess moisture from the product. For a woman, especially a young one, this method of drying will suit much more.

What will we wash?

The most optimal choice in this case is liquid detergents in capsules or special containers. The gel is highly soluble in water, unlike the same dry powder, which is already poorly rinsed, and even more so from a cotton blanket. And this can lead to allergies.

As for air conditioners, their use is not forbidden, but it’s better to replace them with a couple drops of essential oil. Why? Because air conditioners come in different consistencies and varying degrees of aggressiveness. And it can be difficult to find a weakly concentrated inviscid air conditioner right away, especially if, in principle, it is not in the house, and the blanket is already loaded into the drum. Therefore, essential oil is an excellent solution, especially since it is in almost every home. Many worry whether it will leave greasy stains on the product, but this is a vain alarm. This method of conditioning has been tested by thousands of housewives over the many years of use of washing machines.

Have to resort to washing by hand

But what to do with a large cotton blanket? Can I wash this blanket in the washing machine? As you already understood, washing it in the machine will not work, so you can do this only with your own hands.Of course, physically this is a difficult task, and it will take a lot of time, but you don’t have to worry about the thing or the deterioration deteriorating, or both at once.

So, if you are ready to start washing, prepare the following items: a volumetric basin, gel or soap shavings, a brush or sponge of medium hardness, if necessary, you can also take stain remover.

2. Then lay it on a horizontal surface over the oilcloth.
3. Make a washing solution, diluting in a basin with warm water (not more than 35-40 degrees) a detergent or soapy dirt.
4. Then take a sponge or brush and treat difficult places with a stain remover. You need to do this pointwise. Then the entire surface of the blanket must be treated with soapy water.
5. Type clean water in a basin, dip a sponge in it and go over the entire surface of the product to remove the remnants of the soap solution.

Important! You won’t be able to do this completely the first time, so repeat the procedure as many times as needed.

Now you can start the drying process, and do not forget that twisting the product is strictly not allowed. Either wrinkle with your hands, or use a terry.

Restore the product after washing

By the way, it is during drying that you can prevent possible deformation of the product. For example, if the inside of the blanket still rolled into lumps, you can correct the situation while the thing is still wet and has not dried out as it should. First of all, you should know that you can not dry a cotton blanket in an upright position, as this will lead to deformation of the product from the inside.

It is best, of course, to perform the procedure outdoors in a shady place and in the breeze, but this is not always possible. In extreme cases, you can dry the blanket near the battery or heater, but only in a horizontal position.

Now about the lumps. To prevent the filler from drying out in an inappropriate form, you need to carefully break it with a stick while the product is still wet. But to do it better as quickly as possible.
