How to wash a sheepskin in a washing machine?

The desire to wash the sheepskin in the washing machine does not arise just like that. Such things are often voluminous, heavy, accumulate not only dirt and dust, but also dangerous bacteria and even ticks. If you do not take care of the product, then it will lose attractiveness and become dangerous to human health. But is it possible to attract a washing machine to help or is it worth cleaning it differently, we will tell in the article.

Is automatic washing possible?

Whether or not you can load a specific envelope from a sheepskin into a washing drum will tell you an information label on things. On the label, the manufacturer paints in detail all the subtleties of caring for the product. If there is no image with a crossed out basin or a hand lowered into it, washing in a typewriter is allowed.

It is forbidden to wash painted sheepskin in an automatic machine - the pigment will be completely washed out.

When there are no recommendations from the manufacturer, it is better to focus on basic tips for caring for sheepskin.

1. Make sure that the item fits completely in the drum. If the product is too large, a similar option is selected, for example, dry, manual cleaning or dry cleaning.
2. Closely inspect the item for strong spots. The machine will not cope with traces of fat, ketchup, chocolate, wine or sticky chewing gum, so first we conduct local treatment with safe stain removers.
3. Shake out the sheepskin well from the crumbs, dust and other debris accumulated in the pile. Ideally, a vacuum cleaner is best.
4. Find the right detergent. A standard synthetic powder based on aggressive bleaching agents or chlorine is strictly not used when washing natural wool. Only special gels for delicate or woolen materials. Air conditioning is not worth pouring into the tray.
5. Put item in speciallaundry bag (you can have a pillowcase or duvet cover) to protect the cars from possible molting.
6. Enable the program “Hand wash”, “Wool” or “Delicate wash”.
7. Check that the temperature is less than 40 degrees, and the spin - as low as possible.
8. Connect the option to rinse if the item is very dirty.

After washing, the thing is neatly taken out, straightened out and without additional push-ups placed on a flat horizontal surface of the bellows up. The room should be ventilated, but without direct sunlight on the sheepskin. Ideally, a balcony, loggia or terrace. During drying, the wool is shaken regularly and stretched to avoid shrinkage.

As soon as the fur dries, we take a special comb and carefully comb out all the hair. To do this, a wire brush or metal, suitable for pets, is suitable.

Traditional wash

Voluminous things cannot be washed in the machine - they simply will not fit into the drum. But, despite this, it is recommended to clean the sheepskin at least once a month, otherwise too much dirt will accumulate in a thick, long pile, which is ugly and dangerous. A hand wash is a great option.

• We find a suitable washing container: a large basin, a bathtub or a full bath.
• We collect water up to 40 degrees.
• We dilute detergent in water. As mentioned above, it is better to find special delicate gels. If this is not possible, add shampoo or liquid soap to the bath.

Instead of a delicate gel designed specifically for wool, a shampoo for pets is allowed for sheepskin.

• Put the sheepskin in the water, soak and leave for 30-40 minutes.
• After we gently wash the product, not forgetting that it is forbidden to wrinkle, rub and twist the wool strongly.
• We change water several times, rinsing the sheepskin.
• Avoiding the spin, we miss the thing, letting the water flow freely from the pile.

Drying after hand washing takes place according to a similar pattern: we put it on a horizontal surface in a ventilated room and do not interfere with the thing to dry naturally. If there is too much water, then the fur should be blotted several times with a dry terry towel. Do not forget about stretching to prevent deformation of the material.

Limited to cleaning

If the product is too large and cannot be handled manually, then only dry cleaning will be the solution. You can give the carpet or blanket from the sheepskin to professionals for dry cleaning, but it is not difficult to clean the item at home. It is only necessary to remember a few points.

• Without much effort and quality, you can clean the sheepskin in fresh snow. It is enough to spread it up and throw it with snow. Wait a few minutes and sweep the snow, which will have time to "pick up" all the accumulated dirt from the surface. For the best effect, the procedure is repeated, but with the fur down. You should not be afraid of subzero temperatures - natural fur loves “hardening”. For this reason, manufacturers of fur capes and fur coats often recommend "walking" them in the winter.

At minus temperatures, dust mites located in the sheepskin pile die.

• Be sure to vacuum the sheepskin. If cleaning takes place at home, treat especially contaminated areas with ammonia diluted in water. Mix the ingredients in a 1: 1 ratio, moisten the sponge and leave it on the fur for a few minutes.
• Do not dry with a hairdryer, heater or iron - only natural drying is permissible.
• To give elasticity and softness, a mixture consisting of egg yolk and a tablespoon of petroleum jelly is applied to the leather layer of the product.
• Yellow spots from the sheepskin pile are removed when treated with a solution of 2 tbsp. tablespoons of peroxide in 2 liters of water.
• Dry peeling is possible with raw potatoes. Grind the root crop and sprinkle on contaminated places. Leave for 10-15 minutes and wipe with a clean cloth.
• The color of the wool is restored by processing chopped walnuts wrapped in a bag of gauze.

In order not to worry whether it is possible to wash the sheepskin in a typewriter or not, it is better to immediately dry clean or use dry cleaning.

It is not difficult to take care of sheepskin fur, most importantly, do not neglect the recommendations from the manufacturer. Regularity is also important - the more often and better the cleaning, the more beautiful and safer the coat will be.
