Features of installing a washing machine in the toilet

toilet washing machineAbout a third of the country's inhabitants live in very cramped living conditions: a small kitchen, separate toilet with a minimum area bath and small living rooms or a room. Where in such conditions to place the washing machine in the kitchen, where it is already impossible to turn around, or maybe in the bathroom? There is an original idea according to which the washing machine can be placed over the toilet in the toilet. But this placement has a lot of nuances, which we will talk about in the framework of this publication.

Preparing a place for a typewriter

The washing machine in the toilet over the toilet is, in fact, a necessary measure. Experts acknowledge that placing a washer in the toilet is only necessary if there is no way to put it in the bathroom or in the kitchen. Why is that?

  • Installation of a heavy washing machine in a very narrow space of the Khrushchev toilet is very problematic.
  • Preparing a reliable shelf for a car above the toilet is also fraught with some difficulties.
  • Operating the car in the toilet also has drawbacks, just imagine how to “do things” very close to a wringing vibrating washer.
  • And finally, what to do with the machine installed in the toilet, if it suddenly breaks down? Even with a minor breakdown, the washing machine will have to be removed from the shelf, done, and then hoisted back - work for a weightlifter.

But let's not talk about sad things, since you decided on a similar installation of the "iron assistant", then you had reasons for that. We proceed to the preparation of the installation site. First you need to decide on the size. Measure the back wall of your toilet, we need at least 66 cm of free space in width and 85 cm in height. Be sure to consider the location of the sewer and water pipes.

toilet washing machineIt is preferable to install narrow washing machines over the barrel, since standard-depth washers often protrude strongly, as if hanging over the toilet. It is unlikely that someone will want to “bend like a panther” in their own house to relieve themselves or to fiddle with moving the toilet forward, although the second option is quite possible.

So, the measurements of the width, depth and height were made, the place for the washing machine was determined, we will proceed with the construction of the bearing part of our shelf. Our experts recommend making the bearing part from the fortieth metal corner. The wooden structure will not withstand a heavy, vibrating washing machine. We do the following:

  1. We cut the fortieth corner three times at 60 cm, two times at 45 cm (provided that the washer is not 60 cm wide) and two times at 55 cm.
  2. We fasten a piece of the 60 cm corner to the wall at a level slightly higher than the toilet bowl, one more similar piece we fasten to the wall parallel to the first, lower by 45 cm.
  3. We weld two short corners of 45 cm perpendicularly to the first bolted corner, and then connect them with a corner section of 60 cm - we get a frame.
  4. We reinforce the frame with supports from the corners of 55 cm, welded diagonally from the lower wall corner to the corners of the frame.

Note! We got a powerful steel shelf capable of supporting a weight five times the weight of an average washing machine.

Connect to communications

toilet washing machineLeave the structure for a while and take care of the organization of communications for the future washing machine. Let's start with the electrics. The washing machine must be connected to a high-quality moisture-proof outlet, almost no one in the toilet has such outlets, so our task is to remove it.

We pull a well-insulated three-core 2.5 mm copper wire from the shield, fasten the moisture-proof socket in a convenient place, enclose the wire in the cable channel, and connect it through the machine to the socket. We check how the outlet works. Next, we will connect to cold water, do the following:

  • turn off the cold water using the valve installed on the riser;
  • we cut the metal-plastic pipe and put in this place a jumper in the form of a tee tap;
  • we fasten the inlet hose of the washing machine to the tap tee and for a while we leave everything as it is.

Now you need to take care of creating a connection to the sewer. Connecting the washing machine to the sewer described in detail in the same article on our site, all technical requirements for this process must be met. In addition, care must be taken to ensure that the outlet of the sewer pipe is at a sufficient height to avoid the occurrence of a siphon effect.

Note! The siphon effect occurs when the drain hose is not connected correctly, while sewage from the sewer flows into the washing machine.

Now that the communications are organized, you can “bring to mind” our shelf and put a washing machine on it. First of all, we will take care of safety, we will weld a 5 cm wide metal strip to our shelf in front, in case the machine "wants to jump out during operation". Then you can ennoble the shelf as you wish, one of the options is to sheathe drywall, plaster and paint, the choice is yours. Do not be afraid that the finishing material will bounce off vibration, the structure is quite rigid, so you should not expect such troubles.

The main work is done. Next, you need to gather strength and "short-circuit" the washer on the shelf and connect it to water, sewage and electricity. It is very hard and uncomfortable. The washing machine can weigh 80 kg, you need to lift it together and in a narrow toilet it’s hard to turn around even for one, but as they say, “the work of the master is afraid.”

Having lifted the machine on a shelf, we fasten to it a previously prepared water supply hose, a drain hose and connect it to the outlet. Time to start a test wash - the job is done.

What to do if the machine breaks down?

toilet washing machineAny washing machine is not eternal, it is clear to everyone. If the washing machine, standing on a shelf in the toilet, gets a breakdown that requires its disassembly, you will have to turn off the machine first, and then remove it from the shelf, repair it and put it back. Our masters had experience of such manipulations, so they advise to facilitate the movement of the machine, bring it into the toilet sideways and also lift it sideways on a shelf. It’s much easier to deploy it on the shelf later on with the front side and set it to yourself than “knock it backwards”.

To summarize, we note how attractive the idea of installing a washing machine in the toilet over the toilet would seem to you, implement it only in the most extreme case, when all other options are discarded. This installation option has many disadvantages, although it significantly saves usable space in your apartment or house.
