Samsung washing machine shows error HE2

error HE2The HE2 error in a Samsung washing machine is quite common. We can safely say that an error with such a code or a code with a similar decoding is more common than others. Why is this happening? Yes, because the part of the Samsung washing machine that causes this error is its main weak point. Even novice masters know about it. Read about what this part is, how the code for this error is deciphered, and how to repair the malfunction that caused this error.

Code options

Previously, we have repeatedly said that error codes for the self-diagnosis system of Samsung washing machines are by no means unified. For some models, when a similar machine malfunctions, error HE2 appears, for others E5, for others E6, and for others generally H1, H2 or HE1. In this situation, getting confused in deciphering these codes is “a piece of cake” even for a master, so we recommend that you show special care and caution.

Attention! The decodings of the HE2, E5, E6, H1, H2, HE1 codes are similar, but not identical. To get more information you need to study each transcript.

  • H1 – the heating element heats up too quickly, 2 minutes before 400C or more, which can lead to its burnout.
  • HE1 – fast uncontrolled heating of the heating element up to 950C and above.
  • HE2 - the heating element heats the water in the tank very slowly, no more than 20C for 10 minutes.
  • H2 – the heating element does not heat up due to an open circuit.
  • E5, E6 – decoding is similar to H1 and H2, respectively.

Error E6 should not be confused with error 6E, since these errors are interpreted completely differently. There is a separate publication on the error code H2 on our website, which is called Error H2 on the washing machine Samsung, if you are interested in the details, read it, you won’t regret it.

What does it mean?

As we have already indicated, the code HE2 stands for slow heating of water in the tank, no more than 20C for 10 minutes. In this case, the electronic module receives information from the temperature sensor that the heating element heats the water more slowly than programmed. The control module immediately reacts to this by turning off the heating element and stopping the operation of the washing machine, simultaneously displaying the HE2 code on the display.

If a Samsung washing machine does not have a display, but has a self-diagnosis system, this error is manifested by a special combination of burning and flashing lights on the control panel. There are two options in this case. First - lights 60 are on0C and 400C, and the lights opposite different washing modes blink frequently. Second – lights 60 are on0It’s cold, and the lights opposite different washing programs blink frequently.

We do without repairs

Unfortunately, when error HE2 appears on a Samsung washing machine, it smells like a repair. According to statistics, in 90% of cases this error is caused by a breakdown of the heating element, but do not despair and immediately rush to disassemble the washing machine. Try the following.

  • Unplug the washing machine, unplug the power cord from the socket and wait 2-3 minutes, then turn on the washing machine and run the program again.
  • The malfunction may be caused by a lack of water in the water supply. Check if your water has been turned off.
  • Check how stable the Samsung washing machine is on the floor and whether it is installed level.Sometimes the surface under the washer loses stability and becomes loose over time, and the machine begins to sway and vibrate more during operation, which causes HE2 type errors.

In very rare cases, increased vibration can cause the most unexpected errors, which, it would seem, should not appear at all in this case.

We carry out repairs ourselves

Having seen the error code HE2 on the display of a Samsung washing machine, you can with a 100% guarantee assume that the circuit is not broken, there is contact, and the temperature sensor regularly supplies information about the operation of the heating element to the control module. Power is supplied to the heating element, but for some reason it does not work as it should. In this case, you can contact a qualified technician, who will sort out the problem in a short time, but will charge you money for the work, or you can carry out the repair yourself. If you are used to repairing equipment yourself, do the following.

  1. Unplug the washer and take it out to a place where nothing will interfere with disassembly.
  2. Remove any remaining water from your Samsung washing machine. To do this, take out the powder receptacle and also unscrew the garbage filter, not forgetting to place more absorbent rags under it.
  3. Next, you need to remove the top wall of the Samsung washing machine, since it may interfere with the removal of the control panel.

Samsung washing machine diagram

For your information! The heating element of a Samsung washing machine is not located at the back of the tank, like most washing machines, but at the front. This means that it will be more difficult to get to it, since you will have to remove the front wall of the car to do this.

  1. We find two screws near the powder receptacle niche and unscrew them.
  2. We unscrew another screw, which is located on the right side of the control panel.
  3. We remove the clamp that holds the large rubber band of the hatch (cuff) of the Samsung washing machine. There is no need to remove the cuff, just push it deeper inside the washer.
  4. We dismantle the lower narrow front panel of the Samsung washing machine and move it to the side. Underneath we see the screws that hold the front panel from the bottom; we unscrew them.
  5. We pull off the control panel and place it on the top of the washing machine body. Be careful, there will be a large bundle of wires behind the panel; don’t tear anything off.
  6. There are two screws under the panel that hold the front wall of the Samsung washing machine on top; we unscrew them.
  7. We pull off the front wall of the washing machine, but be careful not to pull it sharply towards you, since the wire from the locking device, which is installed near the hatch, will stretch behind the wall. Under no circumstances should you tear off the wire; carefully disconnect it.

Well, the front wall of the Samsung washing machine has been removed and now we have access to the heating element, which sticks out of the wall of the tank exactly under the hatch. We remove the wires from it, having previously photographed their location on the phone, unscrew the fastening nut and pull out the problematic part from the tank.

removing the heating element from the washing machine

The most common cause of heating problems is scale. Widely advertised by Samsung heating elements with ceramic coating, on which scale supposedly does not form, on the contrary, they attract it more than ordinary metal heating elements. As a result, even cleaning the heating element does not help; the part turns out to be hopelessly damaged. What to do if you find a similar problem in your car.

  • We find in the store or order a suitable heating element, but without a ceramic coating.

ceramic heating element before and after use

  • We climb into the washing machine tank with our hand through the hole for the heating element and clean out all the dirt that we can reach.
  • We clean the seat for the new heating element with fine-grained sandpaper, and then lubricate the walls of the heating element niche with laundry soap.
  • We “plant” the new heating element in place, connect the wires to it, and then assemble the washing machine in the reverse order to that described above.

To summarize, we note that the indignation of washing machine repair technicians knew no bounds when they first encountered the new heating elements that Samsung began installing on their washing machines. It is this “miracle of technology” with a ceramic coating that most often becomes the cause of the HE2 error. So be careful and if you have to replace the heating element, never install a ceramic heater, metal is much better. Happy renovation!

I replaced the 1900 W heating element with a 1600 W heating element, the error continued to appear. I had to look for the right power. Everything was fixed (Samsung 5.2kg Diamond machine).

Thanks for the advice, I'll try to fix it myself.
