Error F 08 in the Indesit washing machine

F08 on IndesitOn the Indesit washing machine, error F08 is considered one of the most dangerous, since it often precedes the spontaneous combustion of the “home assistant”. It sounds terrible, but in the practice of our masters there were three such cases. Fortunately, in two situations, only the washing machine body and internal parts were damaged; the owners were at home and managed to put out the fire. But in one case, the owner left the machine to wash, and she went shopping, and after 4 hours she returned to the ashes. A wooden house burned to the ground, all because of a washing machine.

If the Indesit washing machine suddenly displays error F08, you must immediately turn off the power, because further operation may be dangerous. Moreover, you cannot leave the car unattended. The last thing you want to do on the pages of this publication is read a moral, but when you encounter the above cases, it is necessary to remind you - do not leave equipment unattended, it can end in disaster!

Reasons why the code appears

What malfunction can give rise to such a terrible error with code F08? First, let's look at deciphering this code. F08 on Indesit washing machines, stands for a malfunction of the heating element or temperature sensor. To the uninitiated, this transcript can only indicate that the heating element or temperature sensor has burned out and needs to be replaced. In fact, everything is a little more complicated than it seems at first glance. So, what causes the F08 error?

  1. Most often, this error occurs due to a shorted heating element or temperature sensor. According to statistics from service centers, approximately 93% of cases.
  2. In approximately 6% of cases, error F08 occurs due to a broken control module.
  3. Only in 1% of cases are the culprits either the motor or the wiring through which current leaks to the ground.

If you have an Indesit washing machine without a display, then remember that on such washing machines error F08 is manifested by a lit “quick wash” indicator and a blinking indicator indicating drum speed.

Heating element or temperature sensor?

heating element for washing machine IndesitFirst of all, it is necessary to check the heating element for functionality, since one way or another you will have to “dance” from it. You need to ring the heating element with a megameter on the body of the washing machine and if the numerical value on the device display is less than 20 mOhm, you can breathe a sigh of relief - the problem has been found, you just need to change the heating element. If the heating element rings normally, then you will have to think further. So, we do the following:

  • We open the body of the washing machine from the rear wall;
  • if the drive belt is in the way, remove it;
  • remove all wires from the heating element and temperature sensor;
  • visually inspect the heating element with the sensor;

During the veil inspection, we will be mainly interested in traces of corrosion around the temperature sensor. It is this that can trigger error F08 (from the practical experience of our technicians).

replacing heating element on an Indesit washing machine

  • We call ten, as indicated above.

If you find traces of corrosion, rust, etc. around the temperature sensor, feel free to change the entire heating element. No amount of cleaning or rinsing with alcohol will help; believe our experience, the part cannot be restored. Purchase and install an original heating element, and you will be happy.

Motor or wiring?

Possibly current leakage occurs through the motorThe Indesit washing machine may throw up a trick in the form of system error F08 if it was previously operated in conditions of high humidity.In principle, there is nothing surprising here, because the washing machine is usually placed either in the bathroom or in the kitchen closer to the water supply and sewerage system, and in such rooms humidity is normal. Moisture getting inside the case eventually causes oxidation of the contacts, and this, in turn, provokes error F08.

One must think that if the heating element and temperature sensor are fully operational, most likely the culprit is corrosion or dust from the brushes of the commutator motor, which spoils the contacts just as well, and maybe even better. To check this version, you will have to ring the motor, then remove it and check all contacts, including brush contacts, blow them out and clean them. How to dismantle the collector motor of an Indesit washing machine and check it is described in the article Washing machine motor repair and testing. The wiring and chips going to the engine will also have to be checked.

Control module

Let's assume that we were unable to discover anything, despite all our efforts. Error F08 still hangs, haunting us, and there are fewer and fewer positive ideas about what the problem might be. All that remains is to turn your attention to the control module. All other things being equal, only he can hide the defect that caused the unfortunate error.

Here it would be possible to dismantle the module and begin checking, but for our part we will try to dissuade you from this. Firstly, working with an electronic module requires time and experience. Secondly, there is a big risk of “finally breaking” an expensive part. Thirdly, the probability of success with homemade electronics repair is very low.So is it worth tempting fate, spending extra money, ruining your nerves? Isn’t it better to immediately contact a good repairman who can repair such a simple module without any problems, although, of course, it’s up to you to decide!

To summarize, we note that error F08 is not so simple and can throw up a lot of surprises even for an experienced technician. Therefore, when carrying out repairs, or even troubleshooting, do everything extremely carefully. Good luck!

    Thank you, that's clear.

    And mine seems to have come to an end. The old lady worked for 11 years!

  3. Gravatar Vladimir Vladimir:

    And ours was purchased in May 2005, there was not a single breakdown. There is a time for everything, I got up in October 2017, apparently I was just tired.

  4. Gravatar Dmitry Dmitriy:

    Indesit worked for 12 years without breakdowns. It was purchased in 2005. Italian assembly.

    F08 – diagnostic result: heating element, sensor – OK, but brushes – Err. Replaced them and the machine is like new. Indesit WISE-8.

    Excellent article, everything is detailed down to the smallest detail! Thanks a lot!!!
    F08 got out after a small flood, and apparently some of the water flowed behind the machine (it poured out through the gap at the bottom of the door due to the sock pressed by the wife). After overnight drying - still ok. Moreover, the machine began to blink when it was turned off, just after “plugging” the cord into the socket about 10-15 minutes later.
    P.S.: Italian assembly is a thing - 15 years, three times ugh (at 10 years - changing the brushes, but for some reason the sound was terrible - as if the bearing had died :)

    The machine is simply plugged into the socket and gets an electric shock from the water! It periodically produces error f-08.

      Check the heating element and ground.

    Good afternoon, Indesit WISL 103 machine, error F08. I checked all the sensors, the heating element is intact, the heating sensor is intact. I just run the spin program and error f08 pops up. I noticed this feature - I turn off the water supply (I turn the hose completely), start the spin cycle, the program is executed. As soon as I apply pressure to the feed, I start the spin program - again error f08. Where to dig?

      I'm suffering from the same thing right now. It turned out to be a heating sensor. I installed it from the old heating element - the problem is solved.

    Good day. I checked everything: brushes, heating elements, temperature sensor, even the brains! Everything turned out to be fine. I put everything back together and decided to tug on the cables while working, and somehow accidentally touched one of the heating element terminals. I got a little electric shock, but not as much as I should have. Usually it should hit harder. I decided to check the voltage. It turned out that there was no voltage on the heating element; one of the contacts was rusty.
