Calgon composition for washing machine

Probably everyone knows about the purpose of Kalgon. Commercials are regularly shown on TV telling how effectively this product fights scale and limescale. But few people think about what exactly gives such a miraculous result, what is included in Calgon?

What does it consist of?

Contrary to expectations, the composition of the powder is not that complicated. It contains only a few main components.

1. Polyethylene glycol in a proportion of less than 5%.
2. Microcrystalline cellulose in a proportion of 5 to 15%.
3. Polycarboxylates make up from 15 to 30% of the total mass of the substance.

The remaining half of the product is formed by ordinary sodium tripolyphosphates and... soda! Some element names don't sound very friendly, but don't worry. The composition of Calgon is completely harmless to human health if used as intended and precautions are taken. For example, be careful not to get the powder into your eyes or inside your body. In the first case, rinse your eyes thoroughly with water. In the second, you need to drink as much water as possible and seek help from a specialist.

The rest of the precautions are familiar to every housewife: pour in a measuring spoon to avoid overdose, store out of the reach of children and away from sunny things. Also, in order to avoid unpleasant situations, it is better to keep the powder away from any food products. Recommendations for using Calgon are in the instructions; it must be added to the machine in the required quantities when washing.

Attention! If you wash at temperatures below 60 degrees, the use of Calgon is contraindicated.It is better to use an analogue or run the machine idle using citric acid.

What is it used for?

Hard water contains many salt impurities, which gradually settle on the insides of the washer and create whole layers of deposits on top of them. How can all this lead to failure? To operate properly, the heating element has to generate more energy, and, as a result, it operates under enormous overloads and fails.

It should be noted that Calgon is not cheap, but if a part breaks, replacing or repairing it will definitely cost a pretty penny. And if you take into account that obviously more than one part will suffer, regular water softening will cost several times less in terms of money and nerves.

Calgon is available in three forms: tablets and powder and gel. Depending on the configuration and weight, the cost varies from $3 to $8. Packages are sold in 550 grams, 1.1 kilograms and 1.6 kilograms. The contents, proportions of substances, and the action of Calgon in any form are identical, so you need to choose what is convenient or what you like. In any case, the machine will be maintained in perfect condition. Shelf life is two years.

How to use?

On the market, some manufacturers offer drugs that maintain order not only in household appliances, but also in other household appliances. This does not apply to Calgon; it should only be used for washing machines.

Important! Do not pour the product (if you have powder) directly into the drum. This will dramatically reduce efficiency. It’s better to pour it into the tray along with regular powder strictly according to the dosage!

If you purchased Calgon in the form of tablets, one piece is enough.You shouldn’t overdo it either, since the drug in disproportionate quantities will negatively affect the surface of internal parts. This is how the manufacturer recommends using Calgon.

1. Open the detergent tray on the washer panel. You need a compartment, which is usually in the middle.
2. Add the required amount of laundry detergent and softener.
3. Close the tray and start the wash.

Yes, they write everywhere that Calgon works well together with washing powder. However, this does not mean that it can be used separately for washing things. There will be no effect, you will just waste powder and time. Calgon improves the internal condition of the machine and, as a result, the quality of its work. But in any case, you can’t do without washing powder.

Is it possible to do without this powder?

The answer is categorical: no! In addition to the breakdowns mentioned above, limescale and scale significantly reduce the efficiency of washing. The machine simply stops coping with the load, and things have to be washed or washed manually.

In addition, scale particles, if not properly cared for, penetrate into the drum and settle on things. As a result, they become hard, difficult to iron and become covered with stains, or even lose their brightness and acquire a dirty grayish tint. As you can see, Calgon for washing machines is necessary in any case; you cannot do without this chemical, or at least its analogues.

   I have been washing clothes on the Atlant machine with Calgon for 13 years. I recently changed the bearings and opened the drum, it was almost completely clean. There was a little plaque on it. Almost always washed on express wash, 40 degrees. About 60 degrees, the author came up with the idea that you can’t wash at this temperature with Calgon.
