The use of soda for a washing machine

Soda is known to all, it is appreciated for its widespread use in various fields. Our grandmothers also used this “white powder” for cleaning dishes, washing things and many other purposes. But today we will talk about how you can use soda regarding a washing machine, what benefits it brings.

Baking and soda ash: what is the difference?

Speaking of soda, many will think about baking soda, but this is only one of the types of this alkaline compound. In fact, soda is produced in three categories:

• baking soda, it is called sodium bicarbonate, the chemical formula is written as NaHCO₃;
• soda ash, chemical formula Na₂CO₃;
• caustic soda, chemical formula of NaOH.

Baking soda is the weakest alkali, so it is used in the confectionery industry. Caustic soda, on the contrary, has a very strong alkaline reaction, so it is extremely rarely used in everyday life, it is mainly used in industry. We will be more interested in soda ash, which is suitable for washing things with heavy dirt, as well as for cleaning the machine. But first things first.

Washing machine

During operation of the washing machine, scale and limescale may form on its parts. In addition, if you do not follow care rules after a home assistant, then after some time you can smell the smell coming from the drum or tray of the machine. In such cases, soda ash will help to clean the machine. It is not only several times cheaper than specialized tools, but also effectively copes with the task.

To clean the car from bad smell and mold, you need:

1. mix soda with water in a ratio of 1: 1;
2. apply pulp to the drum and cuff, because it is under the elastic that mold is more often formed. In this case, do not forget to wear gloves, soda can cause skin irritation.
3. wait about 30 minutes;
4. use a cloth to clean contaminated areas on the drum.
5. run the machine in quick wash mode, but without laundry.

Note! If there is no soda ash, then ordinary baking soda will completely cope with this task, especially if such cleaning is carried out regularly, at least once a month.

However, cleaning may require not only the drum, but also the powder tray. After all, lime and soapy deposits also accumulate on it. Cleaning the powder receptacle is similar to cleaning the drum. Gruel from soda is applied to the tray for a while, and then washed off with water.

Soda ash is a good softener for water. You can add 2 tablespoons of soda when washing, directly into the powder. But only if you do not wash clothes from wool or silk. This will save the machine from scale formation.

Using Soda For Laundry

Most often, soda ash is used to remove stains. As we already said, it can be added to the powder while washing things in the washing machine. But this only applies to things made of cotton and linen. Items made of wool and silk are “afraid” of the effects of alkalis, and membrane-coated items cannot be washed with soda.

With an average water hardness, it is necessary to add 2-3 tbsp. tablespoons of soda, you can pour it directly into the drum with things. With very hard water, you can add 5 tbsp. tablespoons of soda. An important condition for such washing is the temperature of the water, which should be at least 50⁰WITH.

However, it is better to use soda during pre-soaking of strong contaminants. To do this, take 3 tbsp. tablespoons of soda and dissolve them in 10 l of water at a temperature of 40⁰C. Put things in the solution and leave them for 2-3 hours, then wash them manually or in a machine using powder.

Another effective recipe using soda, it is used to wash kitchen towels.A handful of soda ash is mixed with soap, ground on a grater, and the mixture is placed in a large enameled bucket half filled with water. After the mixture has dissolved, you need to put towels in water and boil. Then boil them over low heat for another 20 minutes. After the procedure, wash in a machine with the addition of powder.

A mixture of soda, vegetable oil, bleach and powder copes with greasy stains on kitchen towels. Three tablespoons of each substance are poured into a bucket of boiling water and towels are put. Leave them in the water until completely cooled, can be left overnight. Then rinse and wash in the car.
