How to remove the impeller from the pump of the washing machine

How to remove the impeller from the pump of the washing machineThe impeller of the CMA drain pump often fails. Experts in this situation recommend a complete replacement of the pump. But a real Russian person, no doubt, is sorry to throw a functioning pump out of a defective plastic part. You can try to replace the impeller, and if the process goes smoothly, the pump will return to normal operation and will pump water without problems. We will figure out how to remove the impeller from the pump of the washing machine and how to restore the drain element.

Impeller dismantling process

If you decide to remove the impeller from the pump with your own hands, we will help you with this. Imagine a detailed algorithm for dismantling a plastic part. So, after the drain pump is removed from the washer body, perform the following manipulations:

  • cut off the plastic part located on the end of the impeller with a hacksaw;
    cut off the plastic impeller tip with a hacksaw
  • pull the assembly base with the impeller out of the water pump with force;
    disassemble the pump
  • insert the extracted structure into the vise, and securely fix it in them;
  • take 2 flat-head screwdrivers and, applying them to the bottom of the plastic screw, gently push the impeller up and down.
    squeeze the impeller with two flat screwdrivers

At this stage, the main thing is not to overdo it and not break the mount of the impeller of the drain pump.

After prying and pulling the impeller up, it should fly off the mount. When the plastic impeller is removed, you will see a shaft that drives it.

clamp the impeller element in a vice

Now you need to remove the metal shaft from the overall design. To do this, unscrew the vice from the countertop, turn them over and reinstall them so that the squeezing bars are at the bottom. After that, the disassembled element is clamped in a vice in the area of the metal shaft.

Then you need to take a screwdriver, install its end in the upper hole of the shaft (it is important to choose a screwdriver of a size corresponding to the diameter of the hole) and gently, from above, tap on it with a hammer. The shaft should remain in a vise, and the construction remaining in the hands should be easily understood.

Perhaps the impeller problem was caused by the erasure of the rubber in the shaft area. Therefore, carefully inspect it, and if necessary, replace the rubber ring with a new one. The process of disassembling the impeller with your own hands is completed, it is necessary to proceed to the reassembly of the element.

We restore the impeller base

collect the pumpHalf of the work is completed, now a logical question arises, how to restore the impeller base? If you managed to disassemble the structure correctly, then it will not be difficult to assemble it back. So, it is necessary to carry out the following actions:

  • insert the metal shaft into the plastic impeller; for a tight connection, you can push it into the seat with a screwdriver;
  • grease the rubber gaskets of the structure with lithol;
  • attach the shaft with the impeller on it to the rubber part;
  • clean the internal cavity of the pump (where the impeller base will be inserted);
  • install the structure inside the pump (it will be attracted by a magnet).
  • seal the cavity in the area of the upper plastic part cut off from the impeller.

So you can replace the impeller of the pump. The process is fast enough, it will take about one hour to complete the work. The main thing is to prepare all the tools necessary for repair, and to imagine what the essence of the upcoming manipulations is.

Perhaps the pump is intact?

Do not immediately panic and disassemble the structure at the first doubt. To begin, figure out what the breakdown occurred, where it is localized, whether the drain pump needs repair. Perhaps it’s not even a pump malfunction. The verification algorithm will be as follows:

  • listen to how the drain pump works;
  • examine the trash filter, check it if necessary;
  • inspect the drain hose, if there is a blockage - clean it;
  • check if the impeller rotates freely, perhaps its movement is braked by something;
  • Examine the wires and sensors leading to the pump.

It is possible to determine the malfunction that has arisen by ear, for this it is absolutely not necessary to be a master. Listen to your washing machine, especially when draining the water tank. If the washer is functioning without making any extraneous noise, you will have to disassemble the case a little in order to be able to check the drain hose, filter, wiring.
