The washing machine turns off immediately after turning it on

The washing machine turns off immediately after turning it onThe situation when, after loading things into the drum and starting the machine, it automatically turns off, usually causes confusion and a little panic among users. The first thing that comes to mind is to reboot the machine. De-energize the equipment and select the washing program again. It is with great regret that we have to admit that such manipulation turns out to be useless. Let's figure out why, after turning on, the machine immediately turns off? How to return the equipment to functionality?

User errors

There can be several reasons for equipment failure. But all of them are conditionally divided into two categories: breakdowns and user errors during operation of the equipment. If the issue is precisely the incorrect actions of the housewife, then fixing the problem will be quite simple. So, what are the main user errors that lead to the unit turning itself off?

  • Exceeding the manufacturer's permissible weight of items for one-time loading into the SMA drum. Modern machines are equipped with a useful function - the ability to independently weigh the laundry put in for washing. If the permissible kilograms are exceeded, the washing machine turns off a short time after turning it on. In some cases, a second before shutting down, the machine will display an error code, that is, it will additionally notify about the overload.shutdown due to drum overload
  • Incorrect setting of washing parameters in the selected mode. Sometimes self-shutdown occurs due to a defect in the machine’s firmware.So, if, when selecting a certain washing program, the user tries to independently change some characteristics, for example, the water heating temperature or the spin speed of the drum, the intelligence may regard the entered parameters as unsupported and turn off the washing machine. In this case, the device will turn off only after user manipulation. If the equipment stopped working even before setting the mode, this factor has nothing to do with it.
  • Imbalance of laundry in the drum. An important sign of a problem will be that the machine turns off not at the very beginning of operation, but after some time has passed, most often during the spin stage. Items spinning in the drum can clump together and cause imbalance. Most often, the washing machine simply stops working and displays an error code on the display, but in some cases it is possible to completely shut down the equipment.

If the shutdown of the “home assistant” occurred precisely because of operating errors, then no serious DIY repairs will be required. In this case, you only need to eliminate the cause of the malfunction, for example, simply load a little less laundry into the drum. It will be much more difficult to correct a breakdown that occurs directly in the equipment system.

Are we checking the noise filter?

checking the network filterWhat to do in the case when user errors are definitely excluded by the owner? If the washing machine stops working a couple of seconds after pressing the start button, then it is worth checking the noise filter. To diagnose a part, you should find it in the body. The sequence of actions when gaining access to the interference filter will be as follows:

  • Turn off the power to the washing machine, disconnect the hoses from the water supply and sewerage;
  • unscrew the bolts and remove the top cover of the machine;
  • looking through the top inside the case, find the network cable;
  • Find a noise filter in the place where the wire fits.

To diagnose an element, you will need a special device - a multimeter; the device will allow you to measure the voltage in the semiconductor part.

After locating the interference filter, you must inspect it carefully. Very often, one look at the capacitor is enough to understand that it is the reason. The element can give itself away through burnt contacts and a burning smell. If you cannot visually determine the filter defect, use a multimeter.

  1. Select the ringing mode on the device.
  2. Attach the tester probes to the contacts of the part.
  3. Record the voltage at the input and output.
  4. If there are no Volts at the output, the capacitor should be replaced.

Even a person without experience can fix this problem with the washing machine. You need to buy a working noise suppression filter, install it in place of the burnt one, and assemble the machine in the reverse order.

In order not to make a mistake when buying a replacement element, it is better to go to the store with a failed capacitor. The seller, after examining the broken part, will help you choose a working interference filter that fully matches the sample.

Perhaps the heater is to blame?

The reason for spontaneous shutdown of equipment is often the heating element. You can assume a malfunction of the heating element when, after starting, the washing machine starts blinking, and after 3-4 seconds it suddenly goes out and turns off. The heater should be diagnosed using a multimeter.

The first step is to turn off the power to the equipment and find the location of the heating element in the housing.Depending on the brand of washing machine, the heater can be installed in completely different parts of the device:

  • Indesit, Ariston, ElG, Samsung - behind;
  • Bosch, Siemens - in front.

If you have no idea where to look for the heating element, carefully study the connection diagram included in the set of documents for the equipment. If there is no paper to start your search from, you will have to find its location yourself. First, inspect the back wall of the case; if it is large enough, you should probably look for the heating element behind it. You can also find the heater by placing the washer on its side and looking inside from below. In this case, it is advisable to have a flashlight on hand to illuminate the housing from the inside and quickly stumble upon the place where the heating element is attached.

The easiest way is to unscrew a few bolts and remove the back wall of the case; if there is no heating element behind it, then putting the panel in place will not be difficult.

checking the heating elementOnce the part has been located, you should carefully remove it from the housing by disconnecting the power supply and loosening the retaining nut. Then you need to turn on the multimeter in resistance measurement mode, set the tester to 200 Ohms and attach the probes of the device to the contacts of the heating element. If the water heating element is working properly, the screen will display a number equal to the original resistance. If a unit is displayed on the display, we can talk about a break inside the part. A zero displayed on the display will indicate a short circuit of the heater. In the last two cases, the element will have to be replaced with a working one.

If the initial check does not produce results, the water heater should be tested for breakdown.The multimeter is switched to buzzer mode, after which one probe of the tester is leaned against the contact of the heating element, the second is applied to the heater body. If the device does not make any extraneous sounds, then the element is fully operational. A specific squeak from the tester indicates a breakdown in the housing, in which case the part will have to be replaced.

If the malfunction of the washing machine is not related to the noise filter and heating element, then there is a failure in the control of the equipment. You should not test the main control module of the washing machine yourself, as this can cause even more damage to the equipment. In this case, it is better to entrust the repair of equipment to a qualified technician.
