What to do if regular washing did not end with spinning things, but with “freezing”? After rinsing the laundry, the washer should proceed to the next step, but this does not happen with some irregularities in the system. The machine may display a fault code on the display, but more often, the device does not report what kind of damage is taking place. If the LG washing machine freezes up, you’ll have to deal with the problem yourself. Where to start the diagnosis?

What are we checking first?

The machine can hang up not only in case of a malfunction in the system, but also due to banal errors in the use of washing equipment. First of all, the user needs to exclude the reasons associated with the peculiarity of operation and control of the machine. It is necessary:

• make sure that the washing mode, which involves the spin function, is started. Perhaps the included program does not provide for draining and spinning. We are talking about the modes “Wool”, “Delicate wash”, etc. Turn on the “Spin” option in addition to solve the problem;
• check that the load allowed for loading into the drum is not exceeded. Otherwise, things get heavier when wet, which can damage the drive mechanism. The machine will stop working until the violation is resolved. You have to remove part of the laundry from the drum and restart the wash;
• make sure there is no imbalance. This phenomenon occurs if a large product is erased, for example, a bedspread or curtain. When the drum rotates at high speeds, the thing goes astray, which leads to an imbalance. You can correct the situation by evenly distributing the laundry inside the drum.

Probable problems

To begin the repair of the washing machine should be with the inspection of the drum. Probably, a foreign object was inside: a coin, a bra bone, a sock, a button, etc. Foreign elements can provoke a stop of the washing machine. The cause of the hang of equipment during the spin cycle can also be:

• heavy wear of shock absorbers. Modern washing equipment is very sensitive to errors in the system. When spinning, there is an increased vibration of the device, which is taken on by dampers and springs. Depreciation of the shock absorbing elements may cause the drum to freeze and halt equipment operation. Repair will be in shock absorber replacement;
• malfunctions of the electric motor and tacho sensor. The motor electronics are probably damaged or the brushes are deformed. The Hall sensor detects the number of revolutions of the engine; if it fails, a new, good tachometer should be installed;
• damage to the water level sensor. The pressure switch transmits signals about the volume of water in the tank to the control module. If the sensor does not function, the operation of the machine stops between the “Rinse” and “Spin” options;
• the impossibility of draining the waste fluid from the tank. The washer should free the tank from water before the spin process. If the drum is filled with water, the machine will not be able to start squeezing the laundry. In this case, it is necessary to examine the drainage system of the equipment, as well as the sewer pipe, for blockages;
• damage to the main control unit. This can happen with a voltage drop in the mains. Also, a module malfunction occurs when moisture is applied to the part.

If there is insufficient experience working with the electronics of the washer, it is better to entrust the repair of the control board to a qualified craftsman.

We clean the machine

We recommend starting with cleaning the drain filter. An element is located in the lower part of the washer, under a special false panel. Place a small container under the machine before removing the dust filter. Unscrew the filter element from the housing. Clean it from hair, pile, other stuck litter.

After proceed with the inspection of the drain hose, pipe and sewer. Clean the hoses as well as the sewer siphon. For work it is better to use special cleaning compounds.

We look at the shock absorbers

Perhaps, before the machine crashed, you noticed increased vibration of the case, uncharacteristic creaks and taps. This indicates the need to check shock absorbers. Springs are located under the washer tank. The automatic machine shutdown on the “Spin” occurs when damaging shock absorbers, wear of the mounting bolts, erasing the seal. To check the dampers, you should:

• de-energize the AGR;
• remove the top cover of the unit body;
• with effort to press on a tank, having lowered it down;
• abruptly stop pressing the tank, observe the movements of the element.

If the tank jumps up sharply and remains in its initial position, then the shock absorbers are working at full strength. When observing tank vacillations in different directions, replacement of dampers will be required.

The shock absorber replacement procedure depends on the design of each individual washing machine model.

It is enough to turn some washers on their side and remove the bottom to gain access to shock absorbing devices. Other models will require removal of the front or back of the chassis. Cars of the Samsung and Hansa brands suggest the removal of shock absorbers together with the tank. The attachment of springs, dampers can also vary, but in most cases they are held by plastic bushings.

Testing the water level sensor

You can check the pressure switch with your own hands. A sensor is required to measure the water level in the SMA tank. The cause of the hanging of the washing machine may be a clog in the pressure switch tubes or a failure of the sensor itself. The device is located directly below the top panel of the case. The algorithm for checking the pressure switch is as follows:

• de-energize the AGR and remove the top cover;
• disconnect the wiring from the sensor;
• unscrew the fasteners and remove the level sensor;
• inspect the nozzle for obstruction, blow into it. If you hear clicks - the device is working properly. In the opposite situation, the pressure switch should be replaced.

The element is connected in the reverse order. If you find a malfunction in the form of a freezing of the washing machine, do not rush to disassemble the equipment. Perhaps the problem is commonplace - the wrong mode or overload.
