LG washing machine hums when draining water

LG washing machine hums when draining waterThe noise, within acceptable limits, emitted by an automatic washing machine during operation is quite natural and understandable. Only a purchased washing machine installed in accordance with all requirements and rules will still not ensure silent operation. An emergency is a situation in which equipment makes unusual, loud sounds. Tapping, grinding, noise are sometimes noted when drawing water, rotating the drum during the main wash, at the rinsing and spinning stage. So, let’s figure out why the pump hums when draining water in an LG washing machine.

Where does this unpleasant sound come from?

There may be several reasons that cause an automatic machine to operate too noisily. Most of them appear during the main wash. What can cause a strong hum from the washing machine when draining the waste liquid? Before the water begins to leave the tank, the pump starts, so the main cause of the noise should be looked for in the drain pump. The pump growls when draining for one of the reasons:

  • if it becomes clogged;
  • if the pump is damaged;
  • when the drain hose or pipes become clogged;
  • when debris accumulates in the drain filter.

The "growling" noise usually occurs after the rinse process is complete, but before spinning. However, the washing machine may begin to hum even after the end of the cycle, already at the final stage of draining the water. We will tell you what to do if problems are identified below.

How to deal with the problem?

It is not difficult to identify and eliminate the reason why the washing machine is making a lot of noise. Even a non-professional can cope with the upcoming workload. Where to start repairs? From the details that are easiest to check.In this case, the first step is to inspect the garbage filter.first clean the filter

The drain filter is located on ElG washing machines at the bottom, in the right corner, behind a small panel. To open the door, use a slotted screwdriver, insert the tip of the tool into the crack and carefully pry the door open, which will open easily. Then you need to do the following:

  • take a piece of cloth and place it under the machine, the cloth will absorb the water flowing out of the filter hole;
  • unscrew the cover from right to left;
  • remove the filter element from the housing and wash it, preferably with detergent;
  • Inspect the hole that appears after removing the drain filter. Remove accumulated debris from the cavity, wipe the walls from dirt;
  • install the garbage filter in its original place, carefully so as not to break the thread, screw on the lid;
  • run the machine cycle in test mode, check if you managed to cope with the noise.

If the drain filter is heavily clogged, it may not be possible to unscrew it in this way, and you will have to remove the element along with the pump from inside the housing.

When the check shows that the garbage filter is not clogged, it is necessary to inspect other elements of the system: the drain hose and the pump. The hose is located in plain sight on the back of the housing, but to disconnect it for inspection, you must gain access to the pump.

The drain pump on most LG washing machine models is located at the bottom of the body. To remove it, just turn off the power to the machine, disconnect it from communications and lay it on its side. Afterwards, you need to remove the pump, inspect its chamber for debris, and thoroughly clean the pump impeller.If you are afraid to carry out this procedure with your own hands, you can invite a specialist.

After cleaning the drain pump, you should carefully inspect the hose and pipes. So, first of all, disconnect the drain hose attached to the pump with a special clamp. The second end of the tube is already disconnected from the sewer pipe connector. The hose will be entirely in your hands; you will have to rinse the element thoroughly and remove the existing blockage.clean the drain hose

The drain hose is cleaned using a special rod equipped with a brush at the end. The diameter of the cable should not exceed 1 cm. The algorithm of actions will be as follows:

  • insert the rod into the drain hose;
  • move the cable back and forth inside the tube;
  • rinse the cavity under the tap with running water;
  • install the drain hose in its original place;
  • assemble the washing machine and connect it to the networks.

After completing minor repairs, the equipment should be put into operation in test mode. It is advisable at this stage to add a special product designed to clean the “insides” of the machine. If damage to the drain hose or pump is detected, it is worth replacing the element with a serviceable one.

What can I do to prevent the hum from appearing?

To minimize the risk of strong noise and avoid repairing the washing machine for as long as possible, it is necessary to operate the equipment carefully. By following certain rules, you can increase the service life of the “home assistant” and its individual components. Important:

  • periodically maintain washing equipment;
  • use a hard water softener;
  • regularly remove scale and deposits from the “insides” of the machine;
  • frequently clean the drain filter of the unit;
  • At the beginning of washing, carefully check the laundry loaded into the drum for paper and small items in the pockets.

Foreign objects forgotten in laundry items will settle in the drainage system, which will increase the likelihood of clogging the pump, filter and pipes.

You can repair the washing machine and get rid of strong noises yourself. Cleaning and, if necessary, replacing elements of the drain system will help eliminate the hum that appears when waste water is removed from the tank.
