How to drain the washing machine into the sewer

drain connectionIf you decide to connect the washing machine yourself, not trusting the master to do this in order to save money, then find out all the nuances before doing this. In this case, you will be fully armed so to speak, immediately prepare everything you need and do the job efficiently. How to drain the washing machine correctly, what methods exist, this will be discussed further.

Connection methods, which one to choose?

There are three ways to organize the discharge of waste water from the washing machine.

  • The first method involves draining water into plumbing - the easiest option to perform. Even a novice connecting a machine for the first time can make such a drain.
  • The second method involves connecting to the drain via a siphon. This method is considered the most optimal, it is used most often.
  • The third way is to connect the drain hose to the sewer directly. This option is difficult in the organization, connecting the drain in this way is most often trusted to the master.

In addition to the complexity of connecting, each of the options has its pros and cons. So, for example, the withdrawal of water into plumbing is the most unreliable and unaesthetic. Fastening the drain hose through the bath or toilet can fly off, and then water will flood the bathroom. In addition, you contaminate the bath, which every time you have to clean to a shine to wash. There may be an unpleasant odor in the room during a drain. But when connected via a siphon, on the contrary, you will be protected from such odors.

Think carefully before choosing one or another connection method, it is better to spend time and effort at once than to redo everything later and pay for damage to neighbors.

The method of draining water "overboard" is only suitable if you are installing a washing machine in a country house or in a private house where there is no sewage. In this case, you throw the hose into a special tank, pouring water out of it after each wash cycle.

What you need for work

In preparation for the work, check the length of the standard hoses, if they are enough for your chosen method of organizing the drain. May also be required adapters. Their size and design will depend on the material of which pipes and drains are made in your apartment. So, in addition to the drain hose that comes with the kit, you may need:

  • sealing rubber;
  • clamp;
  • fitting;
  • check valve;
  • siphon;
  • tee;
  • keys set;
  • grinder to cut the pipe when connected directly to the sewer.

Connect via siphon

When installing the washing machine in the kitchen, the preferred way to organize the drain is to connect the drain hose to the sink siphon. To do this, provide a place for a car near the sink. If the siphon already installed does not have an additional outlet for the washing machine, then you can completely replace the siphon with a new one or add a splitter. Even better if you get a special siphon with a branch and a check valve.

check valve siphon

The non-return valve will prevent the return of waste water back to the machine, as well as the appearance of unpleasant odors.

The siphon is installed as high as possible to the sink, at a height of at least 40 cm from the floor. And the drain hose itself, coming from the machine, is fixed at a height of 70 cm from the floor on the machine body with a special holder. Thus, the hose first rises and then falls back into the drain.

The drain hose is connected to the siphon through a special pipe, which is worn on the branch of the siphon and secured with a clamp. A similar connection is shown in the photo below.

Connection without siphon

Connecting to the sewer without a siphon, directly to the sewer, will require special plumbing skills. Therefore, if you doubt your abilities, then you should contact the master.Moreover, car repairs under warranty in case of violation of the connection rules will not be made. Repair will be entirely at your expense.

What is needed in order to connect the drain directly? It is necessary to make an insert in the sewer pipe for branching under the drain hose. It is good if the sewer pipe is plastic, but problems with cast-iron pipes can occur. After the branch is installed, you need to insert the drain hose into this branch through the o-ring. The most important thing is to respect the connection height. The hose is introduced into the sewer at a height of at least 60 cm, while it should not touch the water. This will provide odor retention.

sewer connection height

Important! The hose connection height affects the load on the drain pump. Therefore, observe the recommended value.

Drain the washing machine into the sewer is good when the sink with a siphon is located at a distance of more than two meters from the washing machine. A long hose is not an option in this situation, since this is an additional load on the pump.

Thus, subject to the instructions and recommendations specified in the passport to your washing machine, you can connect the machine to the drain yourself. After connecting, be sure to check the operation of the washing machine in idle mode, track the tightness of all connections.
