How much water does a dishwasher save?

water saving PMMNew users, and even those who do not yet have a dishwasher, are wondering: does a dishwasher save water? It’s really interesting how much water and other resources can be saved thanks to a “home assistant”. Or maybe the savings are imaginary, but the dishwasher, on the contrary, puts pressure on the family budget? This issue needs to be seriously looked into.

Is a dishwasher economical?

When users start talking about the efficiency of a dishwasher, they first of all talk about water. Like, a dishwasher uses less water than if you washed dishes by hand, so it's economical. Firstly, this statement still needs to be verified, and secondly, the cost of water is a “drop in the bucket” compared to the cost of detergent, but let’s not get ahead of ourselves. First, let's figure out how much water modern PMMs consume per washing cycle. To do this, you will have to give several examples.

  1. Electrolux ESL 94200LO. Inexpensive narrow dishwasher with capacity for 9 place settings. So, in order to wash these 9 sets, the machine spends 10 liters of water. This is not a record saving, but, nevertheless, it is a very good indicator.
  2. Bosch Serie 4 SMV 44KX00 R. Full-size machine that holds 13 place settings. This is a whole mountain and the machine spends only 11.7 liters of water on this mountain.
  3. Miele G 6620 SCi. The floor-mounted full-size dishwasher with the option of being built-in holds 13 place settings and consumes only 9.7 liters of water.

In principle, you don’t have to continue. There's even comparison of dishwashers This option is not necessary. It is clear that when washing dishes by hand, we will pour out at least 30 liters of water to wash the same amount of dishes. And that's not enough. There are people who like to open the tap “to the fullest.”

If you don’t deny yourself anything, you can pour out 100 liters of water in one hand wash, but the dishwasher invariably spends an average of 10 liters of water and that’s great.

A dishwasher saves not only water, but also our time. To wash dishes by hand, you need to stand at the sink and wield a sponge and towel. First, wash a mountain of dishes, and then wipe them. On average, we spend from 15 to 30 minutes on this operation. Sometimes it takes longer if a lot of dishes have accumulated.

A dishwasher can wash dishes for 3-4 hours, but we ourselves do not take part in this process. Our task is to load the dirty items into the baskets, close the door and start the wash. After that, you can go about your business, and in the 30 minutes saved, you can, for example, vacuum the entire house.

The dishwasher keeps us healthy. People with allergies and skin diseases do not tolerate contact with water and detergents. Hands and nail plates can be damaged even if you wash dishes with rubber gloves. If you have a dishwasher, you can forget about such problems.

What other expenses are there for it?saving water

So, does using a dishwasher save water? Undoubtedly it does. In some cases, a dishwasher spends 5-7 times less water than a person would spend washing a mountain of dishes, and this is great, although it does not provide financial savings.

It would seem that if water is saved, money should also be saved, because water costs money. In fact, the saved 1.5-2 cubic meters of water per month is not as expensive as, for example, special detergents for PMM. You will save $1 on water and spend 4 times more on supplies.

In addition to detergents, PMM also consumes electricity, as well as special salt. All these are costs, and the costs are significant.

Is it worth buying?

What conclusion have we reached? It's simple, if you're hoping to save money by using a dishwasher, you're in vain. A dishwasher does not save you money, quite the contrary. So is it worth buying? If we are talking only about saving the family budget, then it’s not worth it, but if you hire a “home assistant” to save time and convenience, then it’s very worth it. For busy people, the machine will free up an extra 30-40 minutes a day, which can be spent on a short rest or other household work.
