LG washer spinning while spinning

LG washing machine is noisyLG direct drive washing machines are very well known to consumers living in the CIS countries. They are inexpensive, reliable and wash clothes well. True, these washers have one serious drawback - they make quite a lot of noise and vibrate during the spin cycle. This is true even for brand new and serviceable machines, which were installed in accordance with all the rules. About why the LG washing machine can make noise and vibrate during spin cycle and how to cope with this misfortune, we will talk in the article.

Causes of Noise

One of the main reasons for the increased noise of the LG washing machine is its design, we have already said this, we will further clarify what we mean by the phrase “design flaw”. In the meantime, let's talk about other causes of noise, which, incidentally, are also many.

  • Installing the washing machine on an uneven surface is not level.
  • Operation of the washing machine with transport bolts not removed.
  • Hit in the tank of a foreign object that seizes the rotating drum, from which the latter emits strong noises.
  • Deformation or complete destruction of bearings.
  • Damage or complete destruction of one of the balances.
  • Damage to shock absorbers or springs.
  • Incorrect location of the laundry inside the drum, as well as underload or overload of the latter.

Do not underestimate the overload of the drum of an LG washing machine, if this happens systematically, it can lead not only to the appearance of noise, but also a serious breakdown, which you can’t easily get off of.

Structural problems and their solution

The vibration of the LG washing machine during the spin cycle annoys many of its owners, but most of them suffer this inconvenience and get used to it over time. Why is this happening, where are the Korean manufacturers so wrong in their calculations that we now have to listen in every detail to the rattling and rumble that the LG squeezing machine makes?

direct driveGuilty of everything, oddly enough, direct drive technology, which is used in all LG brand washers. Understand correctly, the technology itself is good and our specialists have no complaints about it, however, how it is implemented and how the load is distributed inside the washing machine's body raises questions. The fact is that in a conventional washing machine with a drive belt and a collector motor, the motor is installed under the tank. The engine itself weighs decently, so it itself plays the role of another counterweight, which makes the lower part of the body heavier.

What is the LG washing machine? But for such washers, the space under the tank was left almost empty, except for a light pump and nozzle you will not find any details there. The inverter motor weighs less and is located in the middle of the body, in the center of the back wall of the tank. This leads to the fact that all the heavy parts, including counterweights, are located either in the middle of the case or in its upper part, and this, to put it mildly, is completely bad.

In this regard, everything is decidedly clear. How can a washing machine effectively resist centrifugal force and, accordingly, make less noise and vibrate when its lower part is much lighter than the upper, but it should be vice versa.

Since the manufacturer could not or did not want to make the washing machine more stable, the user himself can do it. You will be surprised, but it is not difficult to do this, you just need to place the counterweight under the bottom of the tank. We do the following:

  • we get a regular lower counterweight from the Indesit washing machine;
  • we straighten it a little with a hammer and a chisel so that it fits under the bottom of the tank of the LG washing machine;
  • we put the washing machine on the left side;
  • we unscrew the pump and the drain pipe so that they do not interfere;
  • underneath the bottom of the LG washer’s tank there are mounts that were apparently intended for the engine earlier, but now they remain there, we need to screw the counterweight with bolts to these mounts.

It must be screwed on in good conscience so that the counterweight does not accidentally come off and damage the nozzle with the pump. Lay steel washers with wide fields between the bolt head and the nut so that the counterweight does not loose and does not collapse from vibration. After the counterweight is fixed, you can experience the washing machine - there will be less noise during the spin cycle.

Noise damage

broken bearingsOne of the main failures causing noise during the spin cycle is the destruction of bearings. It’s not that the bearings were the weak point of the LG washing machine, however, in a number of cases the bearings “suffer” and have to be replaced. About, how to change bearings in a washing machine, you can read in the article of the same name, we will not dwell on this in detail now. Remember only one thing - LG washers, unlike many others, have inverter motors, which must be handled with care.

Noise can cause a broken shock absorber or spring. The fact is that when the washing machine operates at low speeds, the shock absorbers almost do not have to work, since the centrifugal force is small and it does not need to be compensated. But during the spin cycle, when the rotation speed of the drum reaches 1000 or more revolutions per minute, shock absorbers and springs begin to work with a heavy load. And as a result, they can break. A broken shock absorber during the next spin will make itself felt with a strong creak and crash.

It is almost impossible to repair the shock absorber at home, and it is not advisable to do this. The problem is solved by replacing the broken part with a new one. How to do this is described in the article. How to check and repair shock absorbers on a washing machine.

Which washers make the most noise?

Not all LG brand washing machines make the same noise. Some models make noise and vibrate more, others less and this depends on the balance of the load inside the case. The least noisy are standard LG free-standing washing machines. Built-in models are considered a little more noisy, and the narrowest washers of this brand can rightfully be considered the noisiest. So if you are sensitive to noise, it is better not to choose a narrow model of the LG brand washing machine - you will be disappointed.

In conclusion, we note that the LG brand washing technique has many advantages, but it also has drawbacks - it is quite noisy. Various breakdowns can cause noise, but there are no such problems that skillful users could not solve, although not without the help of specialists. We hope you deal with your noisy LG washing machine, good luck!

    A very interesting decision about the lower counterweight. True, the article does not indicate how much weight a homemade counterweight should have? For example, I have a washing machine LG F1096ND3 6kg.

  2. Gravatar Victor Victor:

    LG inverter Direct Drive 6kg. When draining water, an extraneous sound is unpleasant.

    • Gravatar Nick Nick:

      Something has fallen into the pump and is touching the impeller blades or in the pipe immediately after the pump.

    I will not swear, but do you understand what you are writing about? LG engineers with education and experience better than yours have made such shortcomings in direct drive? And how do you justify the virtues of steers. Bosch cars with direct drive, by the way on your own site? You contradict yourself! And now, from its seven-year experience of daily use of the LG F1039SD (by the way, it is narrow - only 36 cm) - the machine is very quiet and stable. Only a few times there was a strong vibration due to poor distribution of the laundry (getting lost in one lump), in other cases you can put a glass of water, and not a drop will spill.So instead of “collective farm” additional counterweights, just put the machine on a flat hard surface and level it. And the author of the article could read the articles on his website so as not to contradict himself, and not give advice on improving what has been produced for a good ten years and does not need improvement.

      Now, if your machine was jumping around the bathroom like a mountain goat, I would have looked what would you say about these engineers.

  4. Gravatar Igor Igor:

    Eugene, cursing is not necessary, the fact is that the time of engineers has passed. And the sellers are engaged in the design of the machine. Accordingly, in any new AGR there is a weak spot.

    About LG I will say this, after 10 years of use, noise and knocks only appeared, bearing replacement is required. In vain you slander them like that, for the entire time you use vibration, there is at least noise, but this is not a problem.

    Jumps and rumbles for ten years! Replaced the drum. It would be necessary to change ...
