How to change brushes on an Indesit washing machine
Anyone who has ever dealt with a commutator electric motor has most likely had to change the carbon brushes. The Indesit washing machine also has a similar motor, which means that after several years of operation, it will begin to act up, since the carbon brushes in it will be completely worn out. How do you know that the brushes in the Indesit washing machine motor need to be replaced? How to make repairs yourself? Find answers to these and other questions in this publication.

Replacing carbon brushes, for example, on an electric pump, is a breeze; with proper skill, it takes 5-7 minutes of work. But replacing the electric motor brushes on an Indesit washing machine is not such a simple task. The first obstacle is identifying the breakdown, in other words, you need to understand whether it is worth changing the brushes or whether the problem lies elsewhere.
Unfortunately, with 100% probability you will not be able to determine that the carbon brushes are worn out without disassembling the Indesit washing machine. one can only make an assumption about this based on the symptoms of the breakdown.
- The engine loses power and cannot turn the drum loaded with laundry at the proper speed.
- A system error is issued indicating a motor failure.
- The motor makes strange noises.
- The engine sparks and even smokes, while emitting a persistent burning smell.
The second obstacle is partial disassembly of the washing machine. For some reason, many men are scared 
the prospect of disassembling an automatic washing machine, meanwhile, there is nothing complicated in this matter.
- Turn off the washing machine and turn the back wall towards you.
- At the back you will see a service hatch with a screwed-on lid; you need to take a Phillips screwdriver and unscrew the screws - the lid will fall.
- With a slight movement of your hand, remove the drive belt from the large pulley (drum) and the small pulley (motor).
- Take an 8 mm wrench and unscrew the bolts that secure the engine to the holder.
- Disconnect all wires from the electric motor.
- We pull the motor off the holders and pull it out.

What will be needed for repairs?
The list of necessary tools and materials will obviously be short, since replacing electric motor brushes is a simple repair that does not require a lot of time and labor. In general, you can get by with the following tools:
- 8 mm socket wrench;
- Phillips and flat screwdriver;
- multimeter;
- a set of markers for marking wires.
It’s even easier with materials, since there won’t even be a list. You will need new carbon brushes of a specific type of electric motor of the Indesit washing machine, and possibly a new electric motor, if suddenly, during the test, a breakdown of the winding is discovered.
Where to buy new brushes for this washing machine. They don’t just sell them in hardware stores, and it can be difficult to buy brushes at special retail outlets. A good way out of the situation is to buy this part in an online store, it will be inexpensive and will arrive fairly quickly. If you don’t trust online stores, you can try buying carbon brushes for your Indesit washing machine at washing machine repair service centers. They often have good spare parts stores where you can buy everything you need inexpensively.

As soon as you manage to remove the engine, the first thing you need to do is unscrew and remove its brushes to inspect them visually. It is usually immediately obvious that the brushes have worn out. If the brushes are clearly intact, but the motor does not work, there may be a problem with the winding or lamellas. All this remains to be verified.
Always start by checking the motor brushes. To do this, we find two protruding plates on the body and unscrew the fasteners that hold them. We take out and inspect the plates. If they are erased, we replace them and put the engine in place; if they are intact, we check the remaining elements of the engine. If other engine parts are damaged, it is quite possible that you will have to replace the broken engine with a new one. Just in case, you can look at the model of the engine you need and find out how much it costs, usually it is quite expensive, about 1/8 the cost of a washing machine Indesit.
After renovation
After you have successfully replaced the old worn out motor brushes of the Indesit washing machine with new ones, you can begin assembling the machine. We install the engine on the holders. We connect the wires to it. We tighten the fasteners, then install the drive belt on the drum pulley and the engine pulley.
Next, let's twist the pulley a little, check how it rotates, then put the service hatch in place and screw it on. We install the washing machine, connect it and run a test wash, possibly with clothes.
Important! The first three or four washes will be quite noisy. The motor will hum quite loudly as the new brushes wear in for the first time. Then the engine will operate normally again without any extraneous noise.

Considering that the repair is simple and does not require any special tools or skills, it is worth thinking about whether it is necessary to pay that kind of money to the craftsmen? Recently I was repairing Indesit. The board, of course, can be cleaned with alcohol, but it’s easier to wash the coal dust off with warm water and a brush (without fanaticism!). At once everything is washed away. Next, dry it with a hairdryer (ordinary household one) so that the board is warm and the moisture evaporates.
