Samsung washing machine does not heat water

Samsung washing machine does not heat waterOne of the malfunctions often encountered during the operation of Samsung automatic machines is the inability to heat water in the tank. There may be several reasons for this problem. It is possible to deal with the true root cause of the breakdown yourself, without resorting to the help of a master. To do this, you need to familiarize yourself with the main factors that could lead to the fact that the Samsung machine does not heat water.

Typical Causes of Failure

Before proceeding with the diagnostic steps to troubleshoot, it is worthwhile to make sure once again that the machine does wash with cold water. To do this, turn on any washing program (Quick Wash, Cotton, Synthetics, etc.) and after 15 minutes touch the hatch glass with your hand. The viewing window should be tepid. If it is cold, then there is still a breakdown.

What are the main reasons that could lead to this situation? There are three typical factors.

  1. Wrong mode selection. Samsung household appliances are equipped with a huge number of different programs and functions, and for each washing mode the manufacturer has determined a specific temperature for heating the water. Therefore, before you panic, you should once again make sure that the program is selected correctly, and the set water temperature generally requires heating.Samsung machine does not heat water due to a burnt heater
  2. Malfunction of the heater. It is the breakdown of the heating element that probably provokes the fact that the machine does not heat water during washing. A tubular electric heater can fail due to the accumulation of plaque and scale on its surface, factory defects, improper operation of the AGR. To eliminate the defect, it is necessary to remove the element from the washer housing, check it using a multimeter and replace if necessary.
  3. Damage to the water heating sensor. The purpose of the temperature sensor is to ensure timely activation and deactivation of the heater. If it breaks, then the SMA will simply not heat the water. To carry out the diagnostics of the temperature sensor, it is necessary to get it out of the washer housing and test the element resistance with a multimeter. After the part is placed for several seconds in water heated to 40-60 degrees and again checked with a multimeter. If the resistance value in the first and second case will differ significantly, then the heating sensor is functioning perfectly. If the numbers are approximately the same, you will have to replace this part.

It is very rare that a triac on the control board responsible for the heating function can cause a problem with water heating. With this outcome, the intelligence of the machine does not activate heating at all, or this process proceeds uncontrollably.

Attention! If typical causes can be identified and eliminated independently, then to work with the control board it is necessary to invite a specialist.

How to find a heater and temperature sensor

To find these two most important elements of the Samsung washing machine, you will have to disassemble its body a little, or rather, disconnect the front wall of the unit. To do this, perform the following algorithm of actions:

  • provide free access to equipment from all directions;
  • disconnect the waste filter, this will drain the remaining water in the tank, at the same time, pull out the detergent drawer;
  • go around the washer in the back and start unscrewing the bolts holding the top cover of the case;
  • unscrew the two fixing screws located under the CMA cuvette, and one located on the side on the right side of the control panel;
  • gently slide the control panel, it is not worth removing it yet;
  • using a flat screwdriver, hook on the plastic clamp, which is located around the entire circumference of the hatch, and slowly remove it;
  • insert the cuff of the hatch into the drum deeper;
  • using a flat screwdriver, gently pick up and remove the decorative front panel from the case, so you expose the steel frame of the unit;
  • unscrew the 4 bolts located below on the front wall, before that they were not visible, but after removing the decorative panel they can be easily unscrewed;
  • return to the previously moved control panel, lift it and put it on the top cover of the washing machine. Under the panel there were 3 more screws holding the front of the case, unscrew them.

Important! Raising the control panel up, watch for the electrical wires connecting it to the body. In no case damage them!

The bulk of the work has been completed, now the front wall is attached to the body with just a couple of hooks. Take it by the right and left lower corners, slightly lift it up and carefully remove it. Do not pull the part strongly towards you, because the wires responsible for locking the hatch door will certainly stretch behind it.

It is better to carefully lower the main panel responsible for controlling the washer down to prevent it from accidentally falling during repair work on the replacement of components. Having completed this sequence of actions, you can begin to diagnose the heating element and the temperature sensor. After all, now they are right before your eyes!

Replacing a heating element

Testing the heating elementWhat to do when you finally get to the heater? You must check the item with a multimeter. The first probe of the device is neatly installed on one contact of the heater, the second is attached to the second contact. After that, it is necessary to follow the meter readings displayed on the screen. When the resistance value is in the range of 25-30 Ohms, it means that the heater is working and functioning normally, if the digit 0 or 1 is displayed on the multimeter display, therefore, the heater does not work.

Having purchased a new similar heater, it is necessary to replace the part. To do this, you will need a socket wrench. Take the tool and unscrew the nut located between the two contacts of the heater. Thus, you disconnect the main fasteners holding the heater. But in addition to the nut, the device also has a spacer, so the action plan will be as follows:

  • remove the nut;
  • grasp the heater contacts with your hands and gently rock it in different directions;
  • using a small hammer, gently tap on the stud with which the nut was screwed, the stud should fall a little into the case;
  • pry off the heater with a flat screwdriver, so you can slightly move the heater out of place;
  • holding the contacts, pull the element out.

Important! The heater must be pulled out of the contacts with extreme caution, and the point is not that it is a pity to damage the non-working part, but that if they accidentally break off, it will be quite problematic to get the non-working part out of the case.

Having pulled out the burned heater from the washing machine, you will probably see that the part is covered with a layer of plaque and scale, perhaps notice the presence of black spots on it. Take a new heater and test it using a multimeter. After making sure that the item is healthy, you can proceed with the installation. To do this, lubricate the rubber of the heating element with a drop of engine oil and place the part in the tank. Then, a temperature sensor is installed in place, all wiring is connected to the contacts, the SMA is assembled in the reverse order and checked for operability.
