Socket for a washing machine in the bathroom

washing machine outletAs soon as you decide to install a washing machine in your bathroom, you need to take care in advance of laying all the necessary communications. The washing machine needs an eyeliner from a riser with cold water, a sewer pipe, and, of course, a reliable outlet. Electric communications need to be taken care of especially, because in any bathroom there is a lot of humidity, and electricity and water, you know yourself, are incompatible. It’s about how we put the outlet for the washer with the associated communications and we’ll talk.

Planning and Settlement

Even at the stage of rough repair of the bathroom, you need to take care of where the interior items will depend on communications, such as a sink, bathtub, shower or washing machine. This can be a problem, because many people in apartments have very small bathrooms, which can be pushed into little. But if you really want to successfully place overall objects there, study additional information by reading the article Washing machine in a small bathroom - design features.

Once you have figured out where to put the washing machine and drew a sketch of the bathroom, on which you reflected your ideas, you can begin to plan electrical communications. First, figure out where you will make the outlet, on which wall and where it will be located relative to the washing machine. It is better that the outlet is away from the sink, shower or bath and heated towel rail, so there is less chance that water will get on it. Ideally, the outlet is best placed in the most ventilated part of the room - at the entrance.

wiring diagram

The planned place for the outlet should be placed on the wall, at a height of at least 25 cm from the floor. The height of the outlet in the bathroom can be 40 cm, and 50 cm, and 75 cm, as you prefer.

On the sketch itself or next, draw a diagram of the wiring and installation of machines. Indicate all the necessary dimensions and calculate the length of the wire. Speaking of wire. It is necessary to calculate not only its length, but also the cross section, because washing machines give a serious load. To make calculations in this case is very simple.copper wire

  • We determine the power of your model washing machine. It is not difficult to do this, since such information is necessarily in the instructions or on the case of the "home assistant".
  • We wonder what other devices we can potentially connect to the outlet.
  • We find information about the power that the cores of a copper cable of various thicknesses can withstand. We find out that the cable with a thickness of 1.5 mm fully withstands 4.1 kW and, in principle, is enough for a washer. But we recommend taking a cable with a margin of 2.5 mm and enclosing it in a silicone or plastic cable channel.

After calculating the length and cross section of the copper cable for the outlet into the bathroom, you must carefully plan the route for laying this wire. There are many factors that can affect the route.

  1. When laying the route, you will have to avoid the wettest sections of the walls near the sink, bathtub and shower.
  2. Extra strong, load-bearing walls are also best avoided. In addition to hard concrete, they have a reinforced mesh inside, which will significantly complicate the strobing.
  3. It is better to lay the cable with the shortest route to save material.
  4. It is better not to cross and arrange boxes with other branches of the electric wire, since boxes are not needed in such a humid room - it can be dangerous.

Having laid the route of laying the electric wire, determining the location of the outlet for the washing machine and calculating the cross-section of the wire, you still need to take care of protecting the outlet automatically. At the stage of making calculations, you only need to find out with what cutoff current the device will be needed. Experts recommend an RCD of 10 mA at 16A.

Cooking tools and materials

Now we will collect everything necessary so that the socket in the bathroom for the automatic washing machine is made in the best possible way and in the shortest possible time. For the production of work, we need the following tools and materials:

  • moisture resistant outlet (single or double);moisture proof outlet
  • copper wire of a certain length with a cross section of 2.5 mm;
  • RCD or difavtomat at 16A;
  • rubber or silicone cable channel;
  • terminals
  • plastic socket;
  • plastic brackets for attaching the cable channel;
  • bag of cement 1 kg.
  • hammer drill;
  • crown for a socket;
  • grinder with a disk;
  • chisel;
  • hammer;
  • tape measure and marker.

As for materials, everything is extremely clear, but we need to talk about tools in a little more detail. Almost all of the listed tools are needed for wall shredding for wiring and arranging a niche for a socket. If you have a brick wall, you can do only with a chisel and a hammer, if concrete, then you can gouge the channels with a grinder or puncher. The grinder turns out more accurately, but it’s not as safe to work as a puncher.

A tape measure and marker are needed in order to determine the route of wiring on the wall and mark it.

Installation Instructions

We proceed directly to the installation of the outlet and the laying of electrical communications. Initially, we need to refer to our installation plan to put marks on the wall using a marker. The height at which the outlet will be located and its location must be noted. You also need to draw bold, clearly visible lines on the wall in places where there will be a niche for wiring. Further we do the following.

wall chipping

  1. We insert the crown for the socket into the puncher and drill a perfectly round hole in the place of installation of the outlet for the washing machine.
  2. With a puncher or grinder, we knock out deep enough strobes in the wall to drown the wiring with the cable channel in them.
  3. In the switchboard for the output, intended for the bathroom, install the RCD. The conclusion should be de-energized.
  4. We begin to pull the wire, laying it first in the cable channel and connecting it to the RCD. We lead the wire through the strobe in the bathroom to the place of installation of the outlet.
  5. In a niche under the outlet, lay a small amount of cement mortar, on which we plant a plastic socket.
  6. We fasten the cable channel together with the wire to the wall, and then we remove the wire strands into the socket.

lay the wire

Lead the wire into the socket with a margin so that in the event of a subsequent replacement of the outlet for the washing machine, there is no problem.

  1. We insert the offal of the outlet into the socket and fix it. By this time, the cement should dry out and grab the stalk.
  2. We connect the wires of the wire to the contacts of the outlet, and then we put the outer part of the outlet.

Now we just have to tidy the walls and check how the new outlet works. On this, the work can be considered completed.
