Dishwasher lock repair

PMM lock repairThe door of the dishwasher is fixed in the closed position using a special lock that may fail. It is impossible to operate the machine with an inoperative locking device, so all measures must be taken to quickly repair the door latch. How to repair such a latch, and, if necessary, change, will be described in this article.

Lockable to fix

Not every dishwasher lock can be repaired. Modern locks on the latest models of dishwashers have a design that does not allow it to be restored in case of damage. Such a castle has to be changed. On older models dishwashers hansa, Bosch, Electrolux, Indesit, the locks were quite repairable.

Old locks had a plastic case with a latch and a sensor enclosed in it, as well as special locking antennae. These elements of the castle were rather flimsy, their plastic base was especially weak, which after the next opening of the door simply broke off. If your dishwasher is equipped with such a lock, you will immediately see the broken tendrils, which we will try to restore. What actions does the situation require of us?

  1. Unscrew the front panel of the dishwasher door. If a facade is installed instead of the front panel, we also remove it. The front panel is mounted on several screws that are located on the edges of the door from the inside.
  2. Having removed the front panel, we gain access to the power wires of the lock, they need to be removed.
  3. We unscrew the two screws that hold the lock and remove it.
  4. Cut a strip of metal 10 x 65 mm from the trim of a steel sheet 0.3 mm thick.
  5. We drill holes in the edges of platinum for small self-tapping screws.
  6. We bend the plate so that it lies across the broken-off bases of the mounts, on which the antennae used to be.
  7. Securely fasten the plate on the self-tapping screws directly to the plastic case of the lock.

Previously, thin holes can be drilled in the lock case, so that the screws can easily enter plastic

  1. We check the reliability of the connections, fasten the lock on the door and check how well it functions. If everything is fine, we fasten the front panel to the door and start the machine to work.

Lock Replacementdishwasher lock

Completely metal locks do not break so often, but if they fail, then it is impossible to repair them at home, you need to change. This is not about the banal lowering of the locking tongue, but about a complete breakdown with spring popping and partial destruction of the lock case. By the way, the principle of operation of the new locks is more like how the hatch lock devices on the washing machine work, but they change differently.

  1. We act in exactly the same way as with the repair of the castle. We unscrew the bolts around the perimeter of the door and remove the panel located in front.
  2. Disconnect the wires going to the lock sensor.
  3. At the top of the door there are two screws that hold the lock. Unscrewing them, we can safely remove the failed device.
  4. We take out the new lock and insert it into the place of the old one.
  5. We fasten the new locking device, return the wires to the place and screw the panel removed earlier. The work is done!

Or maybe it's not a malfunction?

If the lock on the door of the dishwasher does not snap, this does not always mean that it has broken. The “sore” of modern locks is the tongue, which is blocked from excessive pressing on the closed door. Further, the door opens, but due to the fact that the lock tab has sunk, it does not close back. How to be How to return the tab of the locking device to its original position? There is nothing easier. We take a screwdriver and pry off the base of the tongue with it just in the place where it is spring-loaded. The spring will slide off the latch and the tongue will return to its working position. Here is the solution to the problem!

So, we decided that repairing the dishwasher lock is not very difficult, if it is suitable for repair. Modern metal locks are made so that they cannot be repaired, but can be replaced. Fortunately, spare locks are inexpensive and change quickly. Good luck
