Dishwasher lock repair

PMM lock repairThe dishwasher door is secured in the closed position using a special lock, which can fail. It is impossible to operate the machine with a non-functional locking device, so you need to take all measures to quickly repair the door latch. How to repair such a latch, and, if necessary, change it, will be discussed in this article.

A blocker that can be repaired

Not every dishwasher lock can be repaired. Modern locks on the latest dishwasher models are designed in such a way that they cannot be restored if damaged. This lock has to be changed. On older models Hansa dishwashers, Bosch, Electrolux, Indesit, the locks were quite repairable.

Old locks had a plastic body with a latch and sensor enclosed in it, as well as special locking antennae. These elements of the lock were quite flimsy, especially weak was their plastic base, which simply broke off after the next opening of the door. If your dishwasher is equipped with such a lock, you will immediately see broken tendrils, which we will try to restore. What actions does the situation require of us?

  1. Unscrew the front panel of the dishwasher door. If a facade is installed instead of a front panel, remove it too. The front panel is attached to several screws, which are located on the inside of the door along the edges.
  2. Having removed the front panel, we get access to the power wires of the lock; they need to be removed.
  3. Unscrew the two screws that hold the lock and remove it.
  4. We cut out a strip of metal 10 x 65 mm from a scrap steel sheet 0.3 mm thick.
  5. We drill holes in the edges of the platinum for small self-tapping screws.
  6. We bend the plate so that it lies across the broken bases of the fasteners, on which there used to be antennae.
  7. We securely screw the plate onto the self-tapping screws directly to the plastic body of the lock.

You can pre-drill thin holes in the lock body so that the screws can easily fit into the plastic

  1. We check the reliability of the connections, screw the lock onto the door and check how well it functions. If everything is fine, screw the front panel to the door and put the machine into operation.

Replacing the blockerdishwasher lock

Completely metal blockers do not break down very often, but if they fail, it is impossible to repair them at home; they need to be replaced. We are not talking about a banal sinking of the locking tongue, but about a complete breakdown with springs popping out and partial destruction of the lock body. By the way, the operating principle of the new locks is more similar to how hatch locking devices work on a washing machine, but they change differently.

  1. We proceed in exactly the same way as in the case of lock repair. Unscrew the bolts around the perimeter of the door and remove the panel located in front.
  2. Disconnect the wires going to the lock sensor.
  3. There are two screws at the top of the door that hold the lock in place. Having unscrewed them, we can safely remove the failed device.
  4. We take out a new lock and insert it in place of the old one.
  5. We screw on the new blocking device, return the wires to their place and screw on the previously removed panel. The work is done!

Or maybe this is not a malfunction?

If the lock on the dishwasher door does not latch, this does not always mean that it is broken. The problem with modern locks is the tongue, which is blocked from excessive pressure on the closed door. Then the door opens, but due to the fact that the lock tongue is stuck, it does not close back. What should I do? How to return the locking device tongue to its original position? Nothing could be simpler. We take a screwdriver and use it to pry the base of the tongue just in the place where it is spring-loaded. The spring will come off the latch and the tongue will return to its working position. Here is the solution to the problem!

So, we have decided that repairing a dishwasher lock is not very difficult, if it is suitable for repair. Modern metal bollards are made in such a way that they cannot be repaired, but can be replaced. Fortunately, spare locks are inexpensive and can be changed quickly. Good luck!
