- Disconnect the washing machine from communications.
- We take out the powder receptacle, pour out the remaining water from it and put it back.
- We take the car out to a place where it will be convenient to carry out repairs.
- You need to get to the pump through the bottom of the car, so let's tilt it on its side.
- Unlike other brands of automatic washing machines, Gorenje washing machines are closed on all sides. The bottom is also covered with a lid, so it needs to be removed by unscrewing a few screws.
- By removing the cover, we expose the part we are interested in, which is located next to the drain pipe - it cannot be confused with anything.
- Now we need to verify that the pump is faulty. We take a multimeter, disconnect the plug with wires from the drain pump and measure the resistance. The device should show about 160 ohms or more. If the multimeter shows nothing, the pump is broken.
- We remove the old pump by unscrewing several fasteners holding it in place.
- We purchase an original pump and install it in place of the old one, not forgetting to reattach the plug with wires.
- We put the bottom in place, and then connect the washing machine for testing - the work is finished.
Be careful! Malfunctions of this kind can be easily eliminated with your own hands; the main thing is to work carefully with the measuring device and do not confuse anything. Otherwise, you can throw out a working pump and the problem, accordingly, will not be solved.
The drain pipe is leaking
A rather specific problem with the Gorenje washing machine is considered to be a broken drain pipe. The specificity is that apparently quite strong pipes are damaged at the elbow (in the double bend of the pipe). Why is this happening? There are three main reasons:
- Poor quality material from which the pipe is made. A manufacturing defect, which then leads to the formation of a crack in the pipe, and as a result, to a leak.
- Ingress of a sharp foreign object, which, unable to overcome the knee, sticks into it, creating damage.
- Using very aggressive cleaning agents. There are quite a few users who, after reading articles and watching videos about cleaning a washing machine, begin pouring all sorts of aggressive chemicals into their “home assistant” in the hope of getting rid of dirt and scale. You will not immediately understand that it is the drain pipe that is leaking, so first inspect the drain hose for damage, and only then disassemble the washing machine. The drain pipe can also be reached through the bottom of the washing machine. The pipe is located next to the drain pump.
Next, all we have to do is get the original pipe, unscrew the clamps holding the leaky part and put a new one in its place.
Important! When installing a new pipe, be careful, it must “sit” well in its place and each connection must be securely tightened with a clamp. In this case, there is no need to tighten the clamp - this will damage the pipe.
Heating element burnt out
The heating element is a weak point not only in Gorenje washing machines; most brands of automatic washing machines suffer from this problem and there are many objective reasons for this.
- Impurities in the water that settle as limescale on the heater, causing it to fail.
- Problems with the electrical network (voltage drops, etc.).
- Operating conditions (frequent incorrect shutdown of the washing machine by the user or washing at 900WITH).
One way or another, if the Gorenje washing machine stops heating water, it means there is a malfunction and, therefore, you need to at least check the heating element and, if necessary, replace it. What is the order of work?
To change the heating element with your own hands, you must first prepare the washing machine for operation, namely, disconnect it from electricity, water and sewerage. After this, pull the car out of the niche or cabinet and turn the back wall towards you. Before your eyes you will see a service hatch that needs to be opened by unscrewing several screws.
We can already see the heating element, but it is inconvenient to work with it, since the drive belt gets in the way. Remove the belt from the drum pulley.
Next, remove the wires from the contacts of the heating element. To avoid mixing up the wires later, it is better to immediately hang labels on them with notes or take photographs.
Now we take an ohmmeter and check the resistance of the heating element. We set the minimum resistance value on the device. We install the probes on the two outer contacts. A working heating element has a resistance of 10-30 ohms or more, depending on the power of the heater. If the device shows 0 or 1, then the heating element must be replaced.
Important! If the heating element is working, but the water does not heat up, also check the thermistor and the wires coming from the thermistor and heating element.
What needs to be done to remove the old heating element from the washing machine tank?
- Unscrew the fastening nut holding the heating element in the groove. The nut is located between the contacts of the heating element exactly in the middle.
- We press the pliers on the mounting bolt to rip the heating element from its seat, but do not overdo it so as not to break anything.
- Next, we take the contacts of the heating element with our own hands and swing it from side to side, pulling the heater towards ourselves. If you can't pull it out, you can spray the edges with lubricant. WD-40 and pump again.
- Once you have managed to remove the old heater, do not rush to put a new one in its place. First, carefully insert your fingers into the hole and try to remove debris from the bottom of the tank; if the car is not new, then there is plenty of debris there.
- Now you can install a new heating element. We put it into the groove and make sure that the heating element “sits” tightly.
- We screw the fastening nut with our own hands, but you don’t need to tighten it too much so as not to tear it off.
- We hook up the wires and put on the drive belt.
- All that remains is to close the service hatch, put the Gorenje machine in place, connect it and test it.
Motor brushes are worn out
Wear of motor brushes is also a common malfunction that occurs in Gorenje washing machines. What are the signs of such a malfunction, how do you understand that the motor brushes need to be changed? Firstly, the engine power will drop greatly and the drum will rotate much more slowly. Secondly, the car will begin to smell burning, and when the engine is running, a cracking noise will most likely be heard. Thirdly, brush wear can be recognized by the machine’s self-diagnosis system Gorenje, showing an error on the display F4.

- We install new brushes, screw them on, “seat” the engine into its seat and connect the wires to it. Screw the bottom.
When installing the engine on the seat, make sure that it “sits” all the way, otherwise this may cause a malfunction in the future.
- We put the washing machine on its feet, go around it from behind and bolt the engine.
- We put the drive belt in place, and then close the service hatch.
- We connect the washing machine and check the operation of the engine - the work is finished.
