Disassembling the dishwasher

Few people will just climb inside expensive equipment “for sport’s sake.” Typically, a person needs to disassemble a “dishwasher” if such a device suddenly breaks down. This is where the time comes to ask yourself how to disassemble the dishwasher correctly so as not to break anything, replace the damaged part, and then, without incident, put everything back together. This is exactly what we will talk about in this article.

Getting ready for disassembly

In a Bosch dishwasher, as in machines of other brands, all the most important parts are located in its lower part. At first glance, it seems that there is nothing difficult in turning the car upside down, removing the pan and gaining access to everything that is required. In fact, in practice everything looks a little more complicated, but more on that later, first, preparation.

In any business, preparation is the basis of all work; approximately half of all failures are the result of a poorly prepared workplace, tools and materials, as well as a lack of necessary information. To avoid getting into trouble, let's start preparing the workplace. Naturally, few people have a full-fledged workshop at home; if you have one, good; if not, it doesn’t matter either. Do the following.

• Slide the Bosch, Siemens (or other brand) dishwasher out of the niche in the kitchen unit, then turn off the water supply and unplug the power cord.
• Disconnect the inlet hose as well as the sewer hose.
• In a convenient place for work, spread cellophane, a few rags on top, and place the dishwasher on them.

Note! Some people find it more convenient to disassemble the Bosch dishwasher in the bathroom so that water leaking from the machine does not flood the floor. If you have a spacious bathroom, you can try this trick.

The “dishwasher” is ready for disassembly. Now let's prepare the tool. Let us note right away that the dishwasher can be disassembled with almost bare hands, the maximum that we need is this:

1. Phillips and flat head screwdriver;
2. pliers;
3. thin awl.

To carry out repairs, you may need another tool, for example, a multimeter, tweezers, a soldering iron, side cutters, an adjustable wrench, but this is a separate story for a separate article.

How does a “dishwasher” work?

Perhaps we are repeating common truths in vain, but I think it will not be superfluous. In order to properly disassemble and then reassemble a Bosch (or other brand) “dishwasher”, you need to have at least a superficial understanding of its structure and about how does a dishwasher work. In general terms, the structure of the dishwasher is shown in the picture below; in general, this will be enough for you to conduct a quality analysis.

Disassembly stages

After we have thoroughly prepared for disassembling the Bosch “dishwasher,” you can get to work with a clear conscience.

In order, without skipping anything, we perform the following steps:

• Use a flathead screwdriver to remove the bottom panel of the dishwasher.
• Open the dishwasher door and unscrew the fasteners located on the sides.
• We close the door, grasp its front panel with our fingers and, pressing down, remove it.
• Now open the door again and unscrew the screws from its upper end. It becomes possible to remove the control panel unit.
• We unscrew the metal plate, which is located exactly under the dishwasher door.
• We remove the soundproofing material from under the dishwasher door, and then unscrew the 4 fasteners connecting the base to the main part of the body.
• We remove the baskets for dishes from the “dishwasher” tank.
• We remove the rotating flat bar with holes - this is the sprinkler.
• Unscrew the garbage filter by rotating it counterclockwise.
• Remove the fine filter (flat metal mesh).
• It seemed to us that there were 4 screws that hold the base of the lower sprinkler; they definitely need to be unscrewed.

Important! When unscrewing the screws from the dishwasher tray, be prepared for some water to pour out of it, but since we laid out rags and cellophane in advance, nothing bad will happen.

• We remove the insulating material and the side walls of the dishwasher.
• Turn the dishwasher upside down with the tray upside down. On the side between the pan and the body you will see a filler pipe, unhook the clamps and remove it.
• We grab the pallet with both hands and gently pull it up. The main thing is not to tear off the wires, so it is better to remove them in advance.
• In the middle of the pan you will see a large plastic housing of the circulation pump on which the pump is installed (on the side), it needs to be removed. Disconnect the power wire, and then turn the pump counterclockwise and remove it.
• Now we remove the circulation pump itself. To do this, we need to disconnect the rubber fasteners from below, then remove the drain hose from the circulation pump body and disconnect the pump itself. Now the disassembly is complete!

If you manage to disassemble the dishwasher before removing the circulation pump, you can replace any broken part yourself. Reassembly must be carried out in strictly reverse order without forgetting anything, then everything will go well.

In conclusion, disassembling a dishwasher is a fairly simple process. Almost anyone can master this kind of work, the main thing is not to forget to screw in all the fasteners and connect all the power wires. Good luck!
