Dishwasher constantly drains water

dishwasher drains waterInstead of washing dishes, the dishwasher draws and drains water all the time - users often contact service centers with such a problem. What can happen, why does the machine stop working in normal mode? We think it’s worthwhile to deal with this problem yourself, and only then call a specialist, and we will help you with this.

Symptoms and causes of malfunction

Failure when the Bosch dishwasher constantly drains water, one of the most common. In addition to the fact that a rumble is heard all the time the engine is running, you can list a few more characteristic signs of failure:

  • the appearance of an error code on the display of the dishwasher;
  • the dishwasher does not respond when you press the keys;
  • nothing happens after the machine is rebooted by turning it off and on again;
  • water is constantly poured and drained;
  • water noise and pump operation are heard.

We eliminate the leak

Most often, the reason that the Bosch dishwasher drains water all the time is the activation of the Aquastop system. The bottom line is that water enters the pan of the machine, and the pump tries to pump this water out. When such a problem occurs, the error E15 appears on the display of Bosch machines. And if you listen carefully, the car does not pick up water.

To resolve this problem, drain the water from the sump. In addition, water should not be in the Aqua Stop sensor. In some Bosch models, such a sensor is located on the right side of the machine, as shown in the photo. For the water to come out of the sensor, the craftsmen advise tilting the dishwasher by about 450. After that, you can try to start the dishwasher again. In addition, tilting the machine helps in cases where the Aqua Stop sensor has stuck in the “water” position.

Note! In dishwashers that do not have an electric Aqua stop, but a regular mechanical one, then when the system is triggered, the hose must be completely replaced.

One of the reasons for the activation of the Aqua Stop system may be a crack in the tank and the water collection tank. This happens extremely rarely, and for self-diagnosis, a complete disassembly of the dishwasher may be required. Even if you find such a crack yourself, then replacing the part will require the help of specialists, it is inconvenient to do such a job at home.

Replacing inlet valve and pressure switch

In a situation where the Bosch dishwasher draws water and drains it immediately, the likely cause is a malfunction of the water inlet valve. When the washing program is activated, the valve receives a signal and it opens, but when a signal to close is received, it does not work, remaining in the open position. As a result, the dishwasher continues to collect water, overflow occurs, when a certain water level is reached, a pump is turned on, which begins to drain the water. The process goes in cycles, it is urgent to solve the problem.

  • You must immediately turn off the water tap.
  • Then wait a while until the pump stops working, if it continues to hum, then turn off the car from the electrical network.
  • Now extend the machine so that it is convenient to get to the connection point of the inlet hose to the dishwasher. In Bosch dishwashers, the hose is connected at the rear, but there are dishwashers in which the hose connection is under the front bottom panel.
  • Disconnect the water supply hose from the machine. Immediately behind it is a water purification filter in the form of a mesh, and behind this mesh an inlet valve.
  • Using a multimeter, you need to check the operability of the electrical part of the valve. The multimeter probes are pressed against the valve contacts and look at a value that should normally be from 500 to 1500 Ohms. Otherwise, the valve is defective. It needs to be replaced with a new one.

  • With a working electrical part of the filling valve, you need to check the mechanical. Make it a lot harder. One way is to open the car door several times during water collection. If water continues to accumulate, the valve is defective or clogged and must be replaced.

After the faulty valve has been changed, the problem with a constant drain of water can be eliminated. Run a test wash and check that the machine is working.

If the problem that the dishwasher is collecting and draining water is not in the valve, then you should check the pressure switch. He is responsible for the water level in the machine, if the signal about the reached water level is not supplied to the control board, then the water will be constantly drawn or drained from the machine. Detailed instructions for checking this machine part are in the article Replacing the pressure switch in the dishwasher.

Bad control board

One of the reasons for some Bosch dishwasher models or another brand of machine can be a malfunction of the control board. More precisely, the triac of the pump fails. As a result, a situation may arise when the pump drains the water all the time, even if there is no water, but the user hears the pump.

The triac on the control board can be re-soldered. But such a job will be handled by someone who understands electronics, knows how to read circuits for different models of dishwashers and cope with a soldering iron. Therefore, such work is most often trusted to the master.

Thus, there may be several reasons why the dishwasher constantly drains water. In some cases, you can fix the problem yourself, the main thing is to know at least a little the device of your dishwasher. Have a good repair!
