What to do if you washed your iPhone in the washing machine?

In the modern world, where it is difficult to find an extra minute, many citizens neglect to inspect their pockets before washing. That is why it is not uncommon for money, documents and other items to end up in the drum along with things. For some, water is fatal, for others it is not, but what should you do if you washed your iPhone in the washing machine? Electronic devices, as is known, are not intended for such procedures.

If you think sensibly, the chances of survival of a washed phone are slim. Think about it, water itself is harmful to electronics, not to mention the fact that during washing it is usually hot and contains many chemical elements due to powders and gels dissolved in it. Such a blow to microcircuits and chips can be truly “deadly.” But this is a theory, but in practice, 50 out of 100 washed iPhones somehow survived, so the chances are good.

Remove the phone from the drum and turn it off immediately. Don’t look at the fact that it’s working: it could close at any moment, and then you certainly won’t be able to help. Next, disassemble the phone. Don’t think about whether you can assemble it yet, but simply free it as much as possible from all removable elements (open the case, remove the SIM cards and battery, etc.)

Under no circumstances should you start drying a phone that has not been disassembled; this will not give any result, but will only waste precious time. Remember the golden rule: first unscrew and then dry in parts.

Instructions for disassembly and drying

First of all, you should immediately warn that unscrewing the screws on the smartphone case will not be easy, and this cannot be done without a special screwdriver. Recently, iPhone manufacturers have switched to bolts with five ends, so you will have to buy a tool in a specialized store. It's called Pentalobe 0.8 mm. If you don’t have anything like that at hand, you can try a nail file, a converted screwdriver or a scalpel, but whether it works or not is a matter of luck.

The next step is to unscrew the two screws from the end of the phone. Now we have the opportunity to detach the plastic case from the metal one. To do this, you will need a suction cup with a mount; any one will do, even a construction one, as long as it is working. Use the suction cup to grab the part of the screen closest to the HOME key and pull it up or towards you.

1. Make sure that the cable connecting the screen and the camera does not break. Use the suction cup carefully, without sudden movements. To be on the safe side, you can hold the top of the screen with your hand.
2. Next, remove the battery, if provided; if not, then it is not necessary. Remove the SIM card holder.
3. Take a huge bowl and fill it to the brim with dry rice. Place the phone inside, and it is desirable that it not only fits entirely, but also leaves some free space.

Now you need to drown the iPhone in rice so that the grains reach the deepest corners damaged by the water. As you know, rice perfectly absorbs water and promotes drying. At first glance, the phone will seem completely dry after half a day, but this is a false idea. In order for the device to dry efficiently and reliably, you will have to wait a whole day, or even 36 hours.

You should absolutely not dry your phone with a hairdryer. There is a high risk of damage to fusible tracks by the flow of hot air.

Now all that remains is to take the phone out of the rice, shake it off and put it back together, giving it its original appearance. Take your time to start up your iPhone; first make sure you have installed it correctly. There are no guarantees that you will be able to revive the phone without consequences, but the repair system in the service is almost the same algorithm of actions, only it costs at least 5 thousand.
