The cuff in the washing machine is torn - what should I do?

the cuff of the washing machine is tornIf water flows out from under the sunroof of the front-loading washing machine during washing, then there is a problem with the sunroof cuff. A quick inspection of a large gum located around the hatch will show damage through which water oozes. This problem cannot be left, but what to do? Changing a part is quite expensive, it’s problematic to repair, you have to choose “from two evils”. We will try to advise you on something useful in the framework of the article.

Glue or change the cuff?

The problem "drew", water and foam oozing from under the manhole cover, something needs to be done! On this score, experts speak out quite clearly - to change. Of course, changing a broken part is always more reliable than repairing it. In this case, you must do the following:

  • correctly dismantle the old cuff without damaging the edges of the tank and drum;
  • Find and buy an original cuff that is ideal for your model of a washing machine;
  • properly prepare a new cuff for installation;
  • correctly install a new cuff.

Note! You can, of course, call a wizard who will do all the work for you, but, firstly, he will wind up the cost of the spare part, since the order will be made by his company, and secondly, he will “take off three skins” for the call and installation. The result - significant repair costs.

You can save a lot of money and try to seal the cuff, but you need to understand that it will not last long, and you will eventually have to come back to the issue of replacing the part. If you decide to delay the inevitable and expect to seal the cuff, then you will have to do the following:

  1. properly prepare the cuff for repair work;
  2. pick up tools and materials for work;
  3. choose the appropriate repair method;
  4. as high as possible to carry out repairs.

How to glue gum hatch?

We note immediately, just to seal the cuff of the hatch of the washing machine will not work. More precisely, it can be glued, even with superglue, at least for a moment, at least with “Chinese snot”, only such repairs will last until the first wash. Warm water, washing powder and other chemicals very aggressively affect almost any adhesive, except silicone sealant. But sealant alone cannot be used. There is one proven way to repair a torn cuff, with its help it is often possible to achieve a good result. What do we have to do?we sew and glue the cuff

  • We take a curved needle, a thin kapron thread and silicone sealant.
  • We find the gap and sew it butt. It is better to sew in a football seam.
  • We coat the seam without sparing with silicone sealant.
  • We hold the machine with the sunroof open for 24 hours so that the sealant dries well.
  • After that, you can start a test wash.

Important! Please note that after such repair of the cuff, it is better not to use washing programs that use water heated to 950C, otherwise there are no operational restrictions.

If within 6 months after the cuff is repaired, you don’t have the hands to change it, it will be necessary to renew the sealant layer, since over time it still collapses. Experts also advise taking a professional silicone sealant that withstands high temperatures.

Another cuff repair problem is the potential inaccessibility of damage. Very often, the cuff breaks in the central groove right along the seam, how do you creep into the damage to better sew and seal it - a big question! You will have to remove the cuff, sew it up, and then put it in place. Since you still have to remove the elastic, can it be better to replace it at the same time?

How to change the cuff on your own?

cuff replacement in the washing machineHow to change the cuffif this crucial gum of a washing machine is torn? First you need to find a new, suitable spare part.If you keep in mind some Asian and European models of cars, then to find the original gum on them is almost impossible, you need to look for analogues. In such a situation, it is not a sin to take the help of specialists, the older the car, the more difficult it is to find a cuff on them.

Gum found, now it's time to start dismantling the old cuff. First, find out if you can remove the cuff on your model of washing machine without removing the front wall. Gently grab the gum edge from the top and pull it down a little. If you see a thin steel collar resembling a cable, then the cuff can be pulled out without removing the wall. We do the following:

  1. pry off with a flat screwdriver a steel clamp;
  2. we move along the clamp until we come across a fastener;
  3. weaken the clamp and remove it;cuff replacement in the washing machine
  4. we grab the cuff with both hands and pull it onto ourselves;
  5. take a new cuff, push it into the groove and put it in place;
  6. we intercept it with a clamp and tighten;
  7. we correct the elastic and try to close the hatch, if the hatch closes well, then everything is done fine.

Note! Do not adjust the clamp or the cuff with a screwdriver or sharp objects. The gum is easily pierced.

To summarize, we note that it is possible to repair the cuff (sew it up and glue it) only in the most extreme case, and even then not for a long time. Replace as soon as possible. If there are many injuries on the cuff, then there is no alternative - you need to change.

    My cuff is torn. We sewed it up sealed with silicone sealant. Water drain hole. They put it up and two holes were cut down on the cuff. In general, the sealed part was upstairs. And that's it ... like that.

      A piece of gum from a Samsung washing machine came off exactly from the bottom right in my center. Your comment, Alexander, inspired me. I took off the gum, though I had to remove the front of the machine for this. I turned the cuff upside down, and from the bottom I drilled a couple of holes with a screwdriver. While everything is fine, nothing is flowing ...
