Replacing shock absorbers in a Samsung washing machine

Replacing shock absorbers in a Samsung carSamsung washing machines are valued for their stability and lack of “jumps”. And if unusual vibration, shaking and jumping appear, then it’s time to pay attention to shock absorbers or dampers. These spare parts are designed to fix the tank in one position and dampen the vibrations of the machine during washing and spinning.

If parts fail to perform their function, the entire system begins to suffer. The springs and bearings wear out faster, the rubber seal becomes deformed, the engine drive belt wears out, and the engine becomes loose. The problem is easy to solve - just change the shock absorbers on the washing machine as soon as possible. Many people can do this, and we’ll tell you how exactly below.

Determining the breakdown

First, let's take a look at the shock absorber. This is a cylindrical device with a piston, rubber gaskets, a rod and a return spring, due to which vibrations from a drum rotating at full speed are “damped”. The dampers have a similar design with the difference that the springs are located separately and enhance balancing. If the stabilizers are faulty, the tank begins to rotate chaotically, deforming itself and breaking surrounding parts.

The main “symptom” of shock absorption not functioning at full capacity is excessive vibration, strong squeaks and knocks during operation of the washing machine. But before buying new parts, it is important to accurately diagnose the cause of unpleasant noises and jumps in the machine. To do this, you need to manually check its functionality:

Important! Before any manipulations, disconnect the washing machine from the electricity, turn off the water supply and disconnect it from the sewer.

  1. Unscrew the screws and remove the top cover.check the shock absorbers by pressing on top of the tank with the drum
  2. We press our hand up to the top of the tank, initiating a downward displacement of 5-7 centimeters.
  3. We sharply lower our hand.
  4. We watch the drum.

If it returns to its original position and freezes, then the shock absorbers and dampers are in perfect order. When the tank swings like a pendulum, it cannot be done without replacement. In order not to waste extra money and time on contacting the service department, we suggest setting up depreciation yourself. Step-by-step instructions are provided below.

Let's start the repair

The first step is to purchase the correct spare parts. For Samsung washing machines, both universal and “original” shock absorbers are suitable, and it is better to focus on the model of the existing washing machine. The best option is to remove the broken parts and go to the store with them. If there are no spare parts that match the specifications, it is recommended to take your time and order the desired option via the Internet or customer service Samsung.

There are two types of shock absorbers on the market - open and closed. The former are cheaper, but they let water in, which leads to rust, abrasion of the gasket and seat, and ultimately to final failure. The latter are more airtight and more durable, which affects their price. When a new pair has been selected, you can begin dismantling and installation. To get to the dampers you need to:

  1. Drain all water through a garbage filter.
  2. Place the car on its side, allowing easy access to the bottom.
  3. Unscrew the bottom cover.
  4. Find two white or black pins suitable for the tank (they are shock absorption).
  5. Take a 13mm wrench and unscrew the lower and upper bolts.
  6. Remove faulty shock absorbers.
It's easier to get to the shock absorbers through the bottom

Important! It is almost impossible to repair worn dampers.

  1. Install new spare parts.
  2. Return the bottom to its place.
  3. Connect the machine.

It is not difficult to verify the correctness of the repair and the reliability of the fixation: just carry out testing. Remove the top cover and check by pressing on the tank (see paragraph “Detecting a breakdown”) or run the machine through the spin or quick wash mode. The second option will show the fault more accurately. If the washer stops making suspicious noises and vibrating strongly, it means the replacement was successful. If the original situation repeats, it is better to tighten the bolts more tightly.

To dismantle the old dampers and install new ones, all you need is a screwdriver and the desire to fix a heavily vibrating machine. This is easy to do if you follow the instructions above. The main thing is to carefully approach the choice of shock absorbers and securely fix all fastenings.
