Shelves in the bathroom above the washing machine

Installing a washing machine in a bathroom can be difficult, as space can be very limited. Very often it is necessary to refuse additional furniture in favor of a washing machine, and therefore the question arises of where to store jars, detergents and other bath accessories. There is a way out if you use a place above the washing machine for shelves.

There are a lot of options for shelves above the washing machine, it all depends on free space and imagination. Shelves in the bathroom can be made with your own hands, but you can buy ready-made ones and fix them yourself. We offer several ideas for shelves.

The photo below shows one of the simplest shelf options above the washing machine. Such shelves can be made of wood or MDF and mounted on metal brackets. The color of the shelves is best designed in accordance with the main color in which the bathroom is decorated.

One of the most beautiful options are shelves in a niche. This method is well suited when there is already a niche in the room where you can put the washing machine. If the size of the bathroom allows, then a niche can be done. The niche is good because the machine is protected from moisture from the back and sides. For the manufacture of a niche, a metal profile and drywall are used, on which tiles are then glued. The shelves themselves are made of MDF, glass or also of drywall.

The photo below shows a shelving from MDF with a niche for a washing machine. If the previous option to do it yourself is almost impossible without skills, then this option is very simple.

And in the next photo you see a variant of finished shelves from metal rails, the so-called rack. The rack is easy to assemble and install in the bathroom. Therefore, if you do something there is no desire, you can just buy what has already been done.

Preparation of materials

Let's look at an example of how to make a shelf in the bathroom. Such shelves can be made independently without significant financial costs. To prepare the materials, you need to make a drawing of the rack, which reflect its exact dimensions in height, width and depth. Dimensions will depend on the size of the washing machine. The width of the rack should be 3-4 cm greater than the width of the machine, the standard width is 59-60 cm, which means that the rack will be 63-64 cm wide. In depth, the washing machine should fully enter the niche of the rack, and as for height, it is at your discretion. The optimal height is 2-2.5 m, firstly, and there will be more shelves, and secondly, it looks more attractive. Too high a design will be unstable and bulky.

To work, you need the following material and tools:

• Particleboard with PVC coating;
  

  Important! PVC coating withstands the humidity that is characteristic of a bathroom. But the laminated MDF will swell and deteriorate due to moisture.

• self-tapping screws;
• metal corners;
• 4 legs;
• tape measure and marker;
• screwdriver or screwdriver.

Putting together a rack

According to the drawing, it is necessary to mark the material and cut out the details. For a rack size (HxWxD) 2.5 x 0.45 x 0.64 m, the following details are needed:

1. two side panels measuring 247x45 cm;
2. lower jumper measuring 67x10 cm;
3. 4 shelves measuring 64 x 45 cm;
4. roof 67 x 45 cm.

Note! You can immediately order parts of the right size, on special equipment the material will be cut efficiently and inexpensively, this will simplify the process of assembling the rack.

In the picture below you see the rack we are describing only with doors. Chipboard parts are assembled together using self-tapping screws and corners. First, the roof and bottom jumper are attached. Then, at a distance of 85.5 cm, the first shelf is attached. And then at a distance of 38.5 cm from it, three more shelves are attached. Making a glass shelf

If there is no space to put the rack, and a shelf above the washing machine is necessary, it is best to make a glass shelf. The shelf itself is bought at a hardware store, and your task is to fix it correctly. For shelves take glass with a thickness of at least 4 mm and cover it with a special film.

For fastening shelves made of glass, an aluminum profile or decorative holders are used. To fix them in the bathroom on the wall trimmed with tiles, you need to use a drill without punch mode to make holes at the required height above the washing machine. Then insert the dowels into the holes made, and the holders are already in them. It remains only to fix the glass shelf and that’s all.

So, the shelf above the washing machine can become not only an additional place for bath accessories, but also an element of the design of the bathroom.
