Connecting the washing machine to the sewer

connecting the machine to the sewerIn the process of installing and connecting the washing machine, the problem arises of how to organize the discharge of waste water correctly. The most correct way is to connect the drain hose directly to the sewer branch, but it is also the most time-consuming. We will describe how to organize the drain in detail and begin with the preparatory work.

Cooking tools and accessories

Any serious work requires careful preparation, connecting the washing machine to the sewer is no exception. If you have to install an old car after moving, organizing water drainage, then you may need some tools and accessories, and when installing a new machine, some of the components are already included with the machine.

  1. In the bathroom, which is very convenient, since any branch, including drain, are almost at hand.
  2. In the kitchen next to the sink.
  3. In the hall.

Having determined the place, prepare the tools so as not to look for them, organizing a challenge. It may be required:

  • various screwdrivers;
  • keys;
  • a pipe cutter, if necessary, crash into a drain pipe;
  • welding for plastic pipes;
  • siphon regular or with non-return valve;
  • plastic tee;
  • silicone sealant;
  • sealing gum;
  • corrugated drain hose of the required length if the factory one is too short.

Note! Joining the hoses is not recommended, since additional connections are additional risks of water leaks. The hose length is considered to be optimal no more than 3 meters, because the longer the hose, the greater the load on the pump, the drain should be closer.

Another step in preparing the washing machine for connection is dismantling the transport bolts. When the machine is fully prepared for connecting to communications, you can proceed to the main work.

Ways to connect to the sewer

Before arranging the outlet and connecting the washing machine to the siphon, it is necessary to install the siphon itself on the sink. If the siphon does not have a separate outlet for household appliances, then a plastic tee will also need to be connected to it. With this connection, an unpleasant odor from the sewer can get into the drum, where after the washing cycle lies the laundry.

Therefore, it is necessary to organize an “air barrier” in the siphon. For this, there is a special branch in the siphon to which the corrugated pipe is connected. It is bent in such a way that the water stagnates in its bend, creating a reliable cork that does not let the smell out of the sewer into the tank of the machine. Moreover, such a plug does not complicate the discharge of waste water from the washing machine to the drain and is updated with each drain of water into the sewer.connecting the machine to the sewer via a siphon

Instead of a simple siphon, you can use a siphon with a check valve, which prevents not only the smell but also the waste water from entering the machine, in which case it is possible to organize the discharge much more efficiently. If the siphon becomes clogged, a situation may arise when waste water fills it and flows by gravity back to the machine. To prevent this from happening, a valve is built into the siphon.connecting the machine to the sewer through a siphon with a check valve

After installing the siphon, you need to connect the hose to the branch from the siphon. To make it simple, just fix the clamp.

In some cases, the drain hose of the washing machine is not connected via a siphon, but into a branch of the sewer pipe. In this case, a sealing adapter ring is required. Such an adapter will allow the hose to be inserted into the wide opening of the pipe. This method is more laborious than the previous one. However, it is reasonable to use it when the washing machine is placed at a distance of more than 2 m from the sink siphon.connecting the machine to the sewer directly

The photo shows the connection directly without using a transitional siphon tube (left) and with its use (right).Such an adapter allows you to create an air congestion that prevents odors from entering the sewer into the machine.

When organizing the discharge of waste water from a machine through a siphon or directly, the distance from the floor to the drain point must be considered. The point at which the end of the hose will be should be at least 50 cm above the floor. The maximum height from the floor that the drain hose can reach is not more than 100 cm. These numbers depend on the capacity of the drain pump.connecting the machine to the sewer

Connecting the drain hose of the washing machine through a siphon or directly to the sewer are considered the most reliable ways to organize a drain. The risk of water leakage is minimized if the hose is accidentally touched. In addition, from an aesthetic point of view, this is also the best option, since the hose is usually hidden behind the machine itself or the kitchen set.

Other methods of draining waste water

The simplest options to organize the discharge of water from a washing machine are to throw a drain hose through a sink, bathroom or toilet. To do this, you need a plastic hook-shaped nozzle that will hold the hose on the sink or bathtub.draining from the machine to the bathroom

A similar way to organize a drain is the most unreliable. And it has a number of minuses:

  • the pressure of water can tear the hose off the side of the bathtub and all the water will come to the floor. In addition, pets and small children can also break the hose.
  • after each wash you will have to thoroughly clean the bathroom, sink or toilet.
  • This method of drainage is not aesthetic, especially for the sink, because pouring waste water into the sink after washing socks and underwear, and then washing dishes in this sink is at least not hygienic.draining from the machine into the sink

Important! If you still decide to use this method of draining water from the machine, then remember that the length of the drain hose should not exceed 4 meters, since a larger amount of waste water can remain in the hose itself and stagnate in it, creating an unpleasant odor.

Thus, it is possible to connect the washing machine to the sewage system independently, if there is a desire, tools and time. And do not save on components, because a reliable and competent connection is the key to the trouble-free and uninterrupted operation of the washing machine.

    Thank you, smart man.

    The machine freezes. Ariston. The circle draws water and scrolls again in a new way. We don’t know what the matter is. Tell me please.

      Water by gravity can go into the sewer. The reason may be dropping the check valve in the washer, if any. Or a very low drain location.

    Thank you, this was the situation.
