How to open and clean the filter in an Indesit washing machine

The design of the automatic washing machine requires the presence of filters. One of them is a metal mesh installed at the inlet of the inlet hose into the machine. This mesh protects equipment from getting inside pieces of rust and large impurities that are present in the water. However, when asking specialists about cleaning the washing machine filter, most people do not mean this part, but the pump drain filter. How to remove such a filter in an Indesit machine and clean it will be discussed further.

Finding the part

The drain filter is called differently, for example, pump filter, because it is directly connected to the pump of the washing machine. It is called drainage or garbage, as it retains large debris and small objects that fall into the tank. In general, whatever you call it, it performs one function - filtering waste water from large debris so that it does not get into the pipes and pump and damage the parts.

Where is the drain filter installed? Of course, in the lower part of the car. In both top-loading and front-loading washers, the drain filter is located behind the bottom narrow panel. This panel is secured with latches. It can be removed by prying it off with any flat tool, such as a screwdriver or scissors. Removing the plastic panel, you can immediately see the drain filter cover; it is located on the right, usually black and has a handle.

Removing and cleaning the filter

It is easy to remove the filter from the pump; you just need to turn the cap counterclockwise. But before you do, prepare yourself. After all, when you start to unscrew the drain filter, water will flow out of the machine. It will be a little, about half a liter.However, this may add more work to you. If the machine is built into furniture, then even a small amount of water will leak under this furniture, you will have to pull everything out, wipe it and dry it.

To avoid this, prepare a large, soft cloth that absorbs water well. Cover the bottom of the machine in the area of ​​the part being removed with a rag and only then unscrew the drain filter. After making a couple of turns, you need to pull it towards you.

All that remains is to clean the part. To do this you can do the following:

• rinse the filter under running water;
• if it is very dirty, use an old toothbrush and clean the dirty areas;
• You can soak the filter for several hours in a solution of water and citric acid, this cleaning will get rid of limescale and unpleasant odors.

Don’t forget to clean the seat under the filter, shine a flashlight into it, you might see debris. Try to get him out of there.

What difficulties may arise?

Not everything is as simple as it may seem at first glance. Cleaning the washing machine filter can result in several problems. It may turn out that it simply does not unscrew, no matter how much force you apply. And you won’t be able to twist it too much; you can break off the plastic. This can indeed happen if the filter has never been pulled out of the pump during its entire operation, which means it has never been cleaned, during which time it has simply become “stuck.”

To remove the part, you need to remove the pump from the Indesit washing machine. In cars of this brand it is easy to get to the pump. Lay the machine on its side and look at the bottom; if there is no cover, then you will immediately see the pump; if there is a cover, you need to unscrew it. Disconnect the pipes and chips with wires from the pump, and unscrew the bolts from the front that hold the part.Then unscrew the electrical part from the pump and spray the filter with WD-40. After this, try opening the filter and then cleaning it.

When cleaning is completed, assemble the drain pump and connect it to the pipes, secure it to the front panel. Check to see if you have screwed the filter cap on tightly; if not, water will leak onto the floor.

! Cleaning the washing machine filter should be carried out as needed, but at least once every six months.

So, don't wait until there is a blockage in the filter and even worse in the pump. Conduct regular cleaning not only this part in the Indesit washing machine, but the entire working system. Take care of it and you won't have to think about replacing equipment.
