Why does my washing machine leak? Water is flowing underneath!

The washing machine is leaking (leaking)The washing machine has become an integral part of the modern home. After all, using it is much more convenient than washing clothes by hand. It saves us time and effort. This means that by using it, we make our lives better. It’s so nice when you don’t have to do your own laundry. You can entrust this part of the household to household appliances. And enjoy more pleasant activities or relaxation yourself. But, unfortunately, a time comes when any household appliance becomes faulty.

Perhaps during or after washing, you noticed that your washing machine is leaking. It's unpleasant when a puddle forms on the floor. And of course this problem needs to be solved. After all, no one wants to wipe the floor after each wash, removing accumulated moisture. In addition, sooner or later you can flood your neighbors. And this is of no use to us. Therefore, it is necessary to identify and remove the causes of leakage in the washing machine.

If the machine is leaking, there may be several reasons. There are a large number of washing machine models on the modern household appliances market. Different models may have different disadvantages. And its own weak points, which, with long-term use, can cause breakdowns that cause water leakage. Let's look at the most common of them. Those that are most often the site of leakage.

Has water appeared under the body of the machine? Check how much there is. And first of all, make sure that the problem is with the washing machine and not with another reason.

Causes of leakage

  • The pump (drain pump) may be leaking.
  • The seal of the tank may be broken (a crack or breakdown has appeared).
  • The integrity of the hoses is damaged (both the drain and inlet hoses may be damaged).
  • A damaged door seal is leaking.
  • The filler pipe connections are not sealed.
  • The connecting pipes are not sealed inlet valve and washing machine dispenser.
  • The tank seal is worn out.
  • The dispenser hopper of the machine is clogged.
  • A damaged tank drain pipe is leaking.

We identify and fix problems

Before starting repairs, you must turn off the power to the washing machine by unplugging it from the outlet.

Then you need to understand from which point of our machine the water flowed. First, let's carefully examine it. By the way, did you notice at what point in the wash cycle our washing machine started leaking? You need to know the answer to this question. It will greatly simplify the troubleshooting process. This approach will help us find one of three possible options for the leak location. The following places of water flow can be easily determined by visual inspection:

  • Inlet hose.
  • Drain hose
  • Washing machine door cuff.
  • And a dispenser hopper.

Hoses

Washing machine inlet hoseFaulty hoses. Hoses often leak where they connect to the washing machine. In order to eliminate this nuisance, we can unscrew them and replace the rubber gasket.

If the drain hose itself is worn out or accidentally punctured, then in the case of the drain hose you can restore its integrity using special glue and a rubber patch, but it would be better to simply replace it with a new one. If the inlet hose breaks, we strongly do not recommend repairing it. Since there is quite a lot of pressure in it, it is easier to replace it. They are sold in plumbing stores and are quite inexpensive.

Dispenser and hopper

Dispenser malfunction. The dispenser may have a faulty hopper (this is the recess into which washing powder is poured). It may leak because it is clogged. And also due to excessive water pressure in the pipes. And because of problems with the operation of the intake valve.

Washing machine dispenserIn the latter case, you will be able to notice traces of drips under its location.

In order to eliminate the causes of the leak, we must get the dispenser. And clean both the hopper itself and the dispenser. In some cases, an object gets into the drain part of the bunker and interferes with normal functioning. If you find such an item, be sure to remove it from the machine.

After cleaning, check the operation of the washing machine. Also try to reduce the pressure by slightly closing the inlet valve.

If neither the first nor the second action helped solve the problem, then it is necessary to replace the intake valve. Since its malfunction can cause increased pressure during rinsing.

If the problem is in the cuff

In some cases, a leak may occur due to a leak in the hatch cuff. If the outer part of the cuff is damaged, you will notice leaks from the front of the washing machine. If the internal one is damaged, then it will leak from the inside.

If the hole is small, you can correct the situation using waterproof glue and a rubber patch. It is also advisable to remove the clamps that secure the cuff and change the position of the place with the patch, moving it to the upper part of the hatch. If the damage is large, then it makes sense to order a new cuff and replace the one that is leaking. Instructions for replacing the cuff yourself in the following video:

Tank filler pipe leaking

Filler pipe leakingPerhaps the attachment point of the pipe to the washing machine tank has become loose. In order to understand whether this is the case, you need to inspect the tank. If traces of water are visible on it at the junction with the pipe, then we have found the cause.

To fix it, we need to disconnect the pipe. Then remove any remaining glue, remove moisture from the joint and dry it. After this, we can return the pipe to its place, fixing it with epoxy or reliable waterproof glue.

Intake valve pipe leaking

Intake valve pipe

It is necessary to remove the upper part of the machine body and conduct a thorough inspection of the pipes. If we notice that the problem is in them, we fix it by replacing the pipes.

If the tank is damaged

To inspect, we need to tilt the washing machine so that we can inspect the bottom. For a thorough inspection, you will need to use a flashlight. We are looking for traces of water. If your washing machine is loaded vertically, then to check it is necessary to remove the side of the case.

Damage to the tank can occur for various reasons, for example, plastic tanks break due to a solid object or a malfunction of the heating element. If you have identified a leak in the tank, it needs to be replaced.

The process of changing a tank is extremely difficult. It may be easier for you to contact a specialist.

If the seal is faulty

The washing machine tank seal wears out periodically. As a rule, if the seal is faulty, you may notice a leak during the spin cycle. To make sure this problem exists, you will need to inspect the tank. If you notice traces of water leaking from the bearings, you will have to change both the seal and the bearings themselves.

The drain pipe is leaking

Washing machine tank drain pipe

If the tank drain pipe leaks, you need to seal the leak with rubber or replace it. It is located at the bottom of the machine and connects the tank to the pump (drain pump).

The pump is leaking

If the drain pump leaks, it is easier to replace it. Video instructions for replacing the pump (drain pump):

Samsung washing machine, top loading. 2001 To save money, it was connected directly to hot water. Having honestly worked for more than 10 years, problems began with the pump (the pump began to jam). After 2-3 blows to the body, it began to work further. And just the day before yesterday there was a big wash, and the pump slowly but surely began to leak, although I did not immediately detect the leak. It’s a pity that such machines, as a rule, and spare parts are no longer produced…. Saving space in the bathroom was significant.

Yes... It's a pity... However, you can now make a boiler out of it to heat water... It's very simple, just pour water into it... throw in a boiler... and voila that's it... you can drink tea... or cook food.

The washing machine, Hansa, was leaking; it had been in service for many years and suddenly started leaking. How to fix it, water flows from below, we suspect that our cat tore the cuff.

I checked all the pipes - when turned on, water is immediately taken in and there is a leak on the left, not on the right. Where is the water drain?

LG machine door closes tightly. At the beginning everything is fine, water intake begins, the drum rotates. When the water level reaches its maximum, water suddenly begins to flow under pressure from under the closed door. In the spin and drain modes, water does not flow anywhere. The door seal is intact.

Tell me, have you found out the cause of the leak?
I have a different machine, but the problem is the same - it leaks after washing, although the water is turned off and everything possible has been drained. It leaks from under the bottom and is quite noticeable. It feels like there’s just a spring under the machine.

  12. Gravatar Evgeniy Eugene:

Replaced the pump. After this, the machine gives an error - “water in the pan”, but there is no leak.
