How to disconnect the washing machine from the water supply?

washing machine shutdownA washing machine is an interior item in a kitchen or bathroom, which is rarely subjected to movement, and therefore disconnection from the water supply. However, there may be cases where instructions on how to turn off the machine may be required. For example, the car broke down, and it needs to be dismantled and transported to a service center, it was decided to change the old equipment to a new one, it is planned to repair the room or even need to move the washing machine to a new place of residence. So, how to properly disconnect the water supply, let's understand.

Do I need a tool?

Depending on how the machine is connected to the water supply and what type of hose is on the washing machine, a tool for work may not be necessary at all.

If the inlet hose at both ends has plastic fittings and nuts, then they are connected and dismantled by hand, since the plastic material is fragile. Such a hose is the most common, which comes complete with a machine. However, its length is not always enough and it is changed to another.

If there is a metal nut at the end of the hose that may rust against the tee or pipe from time to time, then pliers or a small wrench may be required depending on the size of the nut. If the connection is fastened with a clamp, then use a Phillips or straight screwdriver.

WD-40 fluid will help remove rust and ease the loosening of the inlet hose.

Now we will consider in what order and what to do when it is necessary to safely disconnect the washing machine from the water supply.

  1. Disconnect the washing machine from the mains when the washing process is completed. This cannot be done during washing.
  2. We turn off the water tap to the washing machine. As a rule, it is located behind the washing machine or under the sink, if the machine is installed in the kitchen.

  3. We move the machine away from the wall or slide it out of the kitchen so that you can freely enter the machine. At the same time, the inlet and drain hoses should not be too tight.
  4. We take a bucket under water, we put rags on the floor, in case water spills.
  5. Disconnect the hose from the machine by unscrewing the nut counterclockwise.

When using the tool, do not apply excessive force, otherwise the nut may be damaged and the threads may be broken.

  6. Tilt the hose into a bucket and drain the remaining water.
  7. Similarly, unscrew the hose from the tee or pipe. Dismantling the inlet hose is completed.

Dismantling the entire washing machine at the disconnection of the inlet hose does not end. To be able to move the machine to another room or transport it, you must also disconnect the drain hose from the sewer. Of course, if the hose was simply thrown over the side of the bath, then there is practically nothing to do here. But when connecting the drain hose to the sewer, it must be carefully disconnected. The drain hose is removed from the branch of the sewer pipe. The remaining water is poured into a bucket.

Shipping Tips

In order to transport the washing machine, it needs to be prepared. It is necessary to carefully wind the power cord and secure it to the back wall with a clamp. If there is no such clamp, then it must at least be tied. The inlet hose is dried and also secured to the clamps on the back of the machine. With a drain hose, you can do the same, but you can immediately clean it, a description of this work is in the article on Cleaning the washing machine hose.

If it is impossible to fix the hoses on the back cover, they must be wrapped in a rag and put inside the machine. In addition, do not forget to check if there is water left in the powder cuvette; wipe the cuvette hole with a dry cloth. You also need to drain the water and at the same time clean the drain filter.

Important! No water should remain in the machine, because if it gets on the control module, then it can burn out when it is turned on.

After that, plugs are placed on the holes from the hoses, and the tank is fixed with transport bolts. The machine itself can be packaged in bubble cellophane, and it needs to be transported only vertically.

Thus, it is very easy to dismantle the inlet and drain hoses. Even a woman can do this, although why, if there is a strong man nearby. Take care of your equipment and be careful.
