Error tE on LG washing machine

tE error on LG SMOn absolutely any LG washing machine, the tE error may occur. True, on models without a display you will not be able to recognize it immediately, since on such equipment errors are indicated by a combination of light bulbs. How bad is this error? Is it possible to reset it? Will it be possible to independently discover the cause of its appearance? We will now answer all these questions.

Possible causes of malfunction

One good thing is that an error on the LG tE washing machine rarely completely paralyzes the operation of the equipment, so you can wash it. However, there is one condition: you will have to restart the washing program and select a wash in cold water. Why? Yes, because the tE code indicates problems with water heating, or more precisely, it indicates a problem in the circuit that is responsible for heating the water. It is logical to assume that we will have to check the entire chain of heating elements until we find a breakdown, otherwise there is no other way. You'll have to check:

  • a heating element;
  • thermistor;
  • power supply wiring;
  • control module, or rather semiconductor elements that control heating.

Partial disassembly

It is impossible to start checking the above parts without partially disassembling the LG washing machine. Of course, “partial disassembly” is a strong word; you only have to remove one element of the case, but still. What to do?

  1. First, you need to turn off the power to the washing machine, otherwise you may get an electric shock when working with the heating element and thermistor.
  2. It is also advisable to turn off the water supply to the machine, and then disconnect the inlet and drain hoses.
  3. Next, you need to pull the machine out of the niche and turn it with the back wall towards you.
  4. We take a Phillips screwdriver and unscrew the fasteners that hold the cover of the technological hatch located in the rear wall.

  5. Use a flat screwdriver to pry up the special latches and remove the cover.

Having gained access to the parts of the machine, you can take a multimeter and set it to ohmmeter mode. We will call the heating circuit details.

Checking the thermistor

Where to begin? First, let's remove the wiring from the thermistor. Carefully disconnect the contacts. Next, we install the multimeter probes on the wiring and call each wire one by one for breakdown. If the wires are intact, let's ring the thermistor itself. If you find a problem, you must fix it. You need to remove the old thermistor and install a new one in its place. How to do it?

thermistor in LG CM

  1. Click on the special latch and pull out the temperature sensor chip.
  2. Loosen the nut that holds the thermistor.
  3. We take out the broken sensor and install a new one in its place.
  4. We connect the power wires and put the hatch cover in place.

It seems like nothing complicated, but the thermistor may get a little jammed inside. You'll have to gently rock him, then he'll come out.

Checking the heating element

Was the thermistor completely intact? This means the heating element is next. The heating element is not checked locally, you will have to remove it, this is the only solution. We make sure that the machine is disconnected from the power supply, and then alternately remove the wiring from the right and left contacts.

Next you need to loosen the central nut and remove the heating element from the tank using rocking movements. If the rubber gasket has dried out, you can lightly lubricate it with machine oil, then the heating element will come out easier. We inspect the old heating element. It is quite possible that it will be covered with a layer of limescale. We call the heating element with a multimeter.The faulty part must be thrown away; it cannot be repaired. We purchase a new heating element, clean the bottom of the tank and the seat from debris and dirt, and then install a new part. We connect the wiring and put the hatch in place. We can consider that the work is finished.

In some cases, the user cannot correct the cause of the tE error. This happens when the control module is the culprit of the error. If, while checking the heating circuit, you reach the control module, feel free to call a technician. A professional will quickly determine the cause and repair the machine module. Do-it-yourself repairs can only make the problem worse.
