Error F 08 in the Ariston washing machine

F08 error in AristonOn the Ariston washing machine, the F08 error is not so uncommon, although there are many users who have never encountered it. Error code F08 is inherent in both old Ariston washing machine models and new machines. Fortunately, the developers unified the set of codes for the self-diagnosis system of these washers in advance so that a situation like that on Samsung washing machines does not arise, where almost every model has its own codes, which causes confusion. In this article, we will decrypt the F08 code, tell you what kind of malfunctions can be hidden behind it and how these breakdowns are best addressed.

Code manifestation on machines without display

Both old Ariston washing machines and the new Hotpoint-Ariston models can be produced without a display. This, of course, reduces the cost of the machine, but makes it difficult for the user to communicate with the self-diagnosis system.

Indeed, in the absence of a display, the machine can demonstrate an error in only one way - a set of flashing and burning LEDs that indicate the activation of a washing mode, spin speed, water temperature, and more.

The indication coding of Ariston washing machines is not so complicated, and if you still carefully read the instructions for recognizing system errors, then in general everything falls into place. So, in order, how does the F 08 error appear on the various lines of Ariston washing machine models?

  1. The rather ancient and now rare Ariston washing machine of the Margherita line reports an F08 error by flashing the bulb eight times on / off, at intervals of several seconds. In addition, the lamp responsible for indicating the lock of the hatch, stylized as an image of a key or lock should be lit continuously.
  2. An Ariston AVL or AVSL washer generates an F08 error using the intensively flashing hatch lock indicator, in combination with the flashing “Delay Timer” indicator.
  3. In newer models of the Hotpoint-Ariston Low-End, ARSL, ARXL washing machines, the analogue of the F08 error will be the often blinking LED, which is next to the word "Spin" and the burning lamps opposite the functions.
  4. In Hotpoint-Ariston Aqualtis, the F08 error is the easiest to identify, since it will be indicated by only one blinking indicator, indicating a temperature of fifty degrees.

How is the code decrypted?

The interpretation of the F08 error on Ariston or Hotpoint-Ariston type washing machines is very dry and uninformative. It sounds like a “heating error”. The uninitiated, having read such a transcript, will understand nothing. Either the heating element has broken down in the washing machine, or it's the temperature sensor, or maybe the wiring is faulty or the control board in general is not clear.

If you try to decrypt this error in an adapted language with additional explanations, and not as the manufacturer did, the situation will become clearer a little more. In particular, our masters interpret the error as follows: “... the control module of an Ariston or Hotpoint-Ariston washing machine believes that the heating element has started to work, although it did not activate it. Naturally, the electronics instantly disables the operation of the washer and generates an error F08 ... ".

It turns out that the main culprit for the F08 error is the heating element, although a problem often arises in another link of the heating circuit - temperature sensor, wiring, contacts. In slightly rarer cases, the control module itself is to blame, and the rarest cases of the appearance of this error are associated with the master pressostat and its circuit.

This error may appear at any time during the execution of the program, but most often the washing has not yet begun to start, although the program is already activated and the message F08 appears on the display after 10 seconds and the machine freezes.

We localize and troubleshoot

How to find and fix the malfunction caused by the F08 error, we will tell on the example of the Ariston Aquatic washing machine. It is important to note that such an error is often eliminated simply by a 2 or 3-fold reboot (blackout) of the Ariston washing machine. If this does not help, do the following:

  • we disconnect the washing machine from everything that is possible and pull it out somewhere to an empty place so that there is a convenient approach to the case from all sides;
  • remove the back wall by unscrewing the screws that hold it;
  • we photograph the location of the wires going to the contacts of the heater and the temperature sensor;
    We photograph the arrangement of wires on the heating element of the washing machine Ariston
  • remove the wires, and then, taking a multimeter, measure the resistance of the heater and the temperature sensor, if the device shows from 20 to 30 Ohms - everything is in order, if it shows 1 or 0, the part needs to be replaced.

If you phoned the heater and the temperature sensor, you did not find anything unusual, neither a current leak, nor a “sticking” sensor, nor an open circuit, so you need to carefully check the wiring. It is best to first inspect it visually, and then check with a multimeter. If the wiring is intact, then the problem is either in the control module or in the pressure switch circuit. How to check the water level sensor itself and its circuit is described in the article Checking the pressostat of the washing machine, so in the framework of this publication we will not repeat.

In the event that, after checking the pressure switch circuit, you do not find any deviations, you will have to admit that a malfunction has occurred in the electronic module of the washing machine. Repairing an electronic module is by no means always difficult and expensive, but if you get in there yourself, it can end sadly for the whole board and then fixing the machine will definitely “cost a pretty penny”. To avoid such troubles, it is necessary to throw aside the thought of self-repairing the electronics of the Ariston washing machine and entrust this matter to a professional.

Note! In about one case out of 100, FPS may be the culprit for F08 errors in older Ariston machines. So before you call the master it would be nice to check this detail.

In conclusion, we note that an error with code F 08 most often indicates an open in the heating circuit or pressostat, but there may be problems with the control module. So in the process of diagnosis, you need to be as careful as possible, and most importantly, you need to properly assess your strength, because not all malfunctions can be eliminated with your own hands. Good luck
