Error E23 in a Bosch washing machine

error E 23 in Bosch machinesError E23 on a Bosch washing machine is not that uncommon, however, you will not find this error in the description of the codes of the standard self-diagnosis system for washing machines of this brand. Common error codes on a modern Bosch car begin with the letter "F" and only a few begin with "E". E23 is an exception that is found on some models of Bosch washing machines. However, this code needs to be deciphered, so that’s what we’ll do.

Leakage in the pan of the machine

Error E23 stands for approximately the same as error F23, which is much more common in Bosch washing machines. Namely, E23 notifies that the sensor of the leakage protection system, which is located in the tray of the washing machine, has triggered.

The Aqua stop sensor works very simply. There is a special segment in the tray of the washing machine connected to the float. When water enters the pan, the float rises, the sensor is triggered and E23 appears on the display. The causes of leakage can be different:

  • the washing tub is leaky;
  • crack in the drain pipe;
  • the inlet hose is not screwed on properly or is leaking;
  • The powder receptacle is not inserted or is leaking.

It is not at all necessary that a leak has actually occurred, because the sensor can make itself felt for another reason.

error e23 on the displayIn the practice of our masters there was the following case. A client called us and complained about error E23 that occurred on his Bosch washing machine. He wanted to get a brief verbal consultation from our technician about this error. The master began to tell him about the float sensor of the Aqua Stop system, which had triggered in the pan and because of this, they say, an error appeared.The client listened and then reported that his car was not equipped with a leak protection system at all and did not have a pan, much less an Aqua Stop hose.

The master was surprised and offered the client a home visit in order to deal with the problem after the fact. In the end, it turned out that the machine really does not have a leakage protection system, but the E23 code is embedded in its module, which diagnoses this error. The problem only appeared as a result of a short circuit.

We tried resetting the error, rebooting the control module, checking the circuit, but nothing helped. It was not possible to solve the problem or find its causes. As a result, it was possible to get rid of the annoying code only after reprogramming the electronic module. This situation is indicative of the fact that you remember that Aqua stop is Aqua stop, and you cannot forget about glitches in the control module. Error E23, although rare, can be caused by just this kind of breakdown.

Sensor dysfunction

It is not without reason that when installing a washing machine with a leak protection system, technicians recommend checking the tray for various debris. In our practice, it happened that the owners, having moved the washing machine to another place, discovered error E23. After feeling the pallet, they made sure that everything was dry and the cause of the error was unclear. Our craftsmen opened the pan and found out that a small piece of plastic, which had previously been in the pan, fell under the float when carrying the Bosch machine and, naturally, lifted it. We removed the debris, put the tray back in place, and the machine now works as before.

Debris in the pan can cause the sensor to not work when a leak actually occurs.

sensor in the pan

By the way, this sensor is quite sensitive.It is enough to be careless when installing or carrying the washing machine and the problem in the form of error E23 will immediately appear. Separately, it should be said about a short circuit, which can burn out the sensor with all the ensuing consequences and about the breakage of the wires supplying the sensor. The latter, by the way, happens during a makeshift repair, when the owner of the “home assistant,” while disassembling it, accidentally tears off the wire running from the body to the tray to the sensor.

In general, if you encounter error E23, pay special attention to the float sensor located in the tray of the Bosch washing machine. Even with a detailed inspection, there is a chance to detect a malfunction, and having discovered it, you need to begin repairs.

Troubleshooting

If you see that error E23 has popped up because water has accumulated in the tray of the washing machine, you must urgently start looking for the cause of the leak. Some users on the forums advise to eliminate this error by tilting the body of the machine so that the float lowers, others pump out water with an enema bulb, and still others “pervert” it in some other way. For our part, we note that such measures are purely temporary. If the cause of the leak is not eliminated, the water will accumulate again and what, will you pump it out again?

In our opinion, it is necessary to partially disassemble the Bosch washing machine, checking for leaks:Bosch washing machine disassembly

  • pipes and their connections;
  • hoses and their connections;
  • pump;
  • tank;
  • dispenser

The article describes how best to disassemble a washing machine of this brand. Design of Bosch washing machines, let's not focus on this. Having discovered a leaking pipe or tank, it can be replaced, or it can be sealed with sealant or cold welding, depending on the nature of the damage. By the way, some craftsmen are very cool about this method of repair, preferring to change the entire part. In general, this is correct, but there are situations when the crack is very small, and replacing the same tank involves some hassle and is also expensive. Although, of course, it's up to you.

If the problem is not the leak, but the Aqua stop sensor, you will have to replace it. To do this, unscrew and carefully (without tearing off the wire) remove the tray. Disconnect the wire from the sensor. Use a screwdriver to pry the sensor out of the latches and move it to the side. Replace it with a new, original sensor.

In conclusion, we note that error E23 and error F23 on a Bosch brand washing machine are deciphered in the same way, so you need to take all measures either to eliminate the leak that was detected by the Aqua Stop system, or to repair the Aqua Stop system itself, depending on what caused this code to appear. Good luck!
