Error E17 in a Bosch washing machine

If you are faced with the fact that your Bosch washing machine refused to start any washing program, giving error code E 17, then you have come to the right place. We will describe in detail what caused this problem and, most importantly, how to fix it without harming the equipment.

Explanation and reasons

Error E17 literally means no water supply to the tank, as a result of which the wash simply cannot start. On some washing machine models, this problem corresponds to code F17, as the manufacturer intended.

On washing machines without a display, this error appears in the form of two lights: spin at 1000 rpm and rinse.

Deciphering this code alone is not enough; you need to establish the reasons that caused its appearance, there are several of them:

• failure of the filling valve;
• pressostat malfunction;
• problems with the control module;
• The wiring between the listed parts is broken.

These elements of the washing machine should be checked in the order in which we have listed them. The probability of valve failure when this code appears is highest. However, before any planned repairs, it is worth checking whether there is any water in the water supply at all, or maybe the water supply tap, which is located at the point where the inlet hose connects to the water supply, is simply turned off. Of course, these are banal things, but still...

Fill valve or pressure switch

After making sure that there is water in the water supply, begin checking the parts step by step. Unplug the machine, turn off the water supply and unscrew the inlet hose. Behind it you will see a mesh filter for the fill valve. It may be clogged with small particles, rinse it under running water and return it to its place. Then you need to check the valve itself, for this:

• remove the top cover of the washing machine;
• take a multimeter and measure the resistance of the valve coil;
• At the same time, check the contacts of the valve wires and the wires themselves.

In the event of a breakdown, it is impractical to repair the part; you need to purchase a new one and replace it with the faulty one. To do this, you need to disconnect all the tubes that are secured with clamps, as well as the wires.

When purchasing a new filling valve, buy new clamps for connecting the pipes.

If error E17 in a Bosch washing machine is not caused by the fill valve, then without closing the lid of the machine, proceed to checking the water level sensor. It is located opposite the fill valve in the right corner. Inspect the tube suitable for it, check the contacts of the connected wires, and then the pressure switch itself. If there is a malfunction, this part is also not repaired, but replaced.

Module repair

And finally, as a last resort, you should contact the control module. Washing machines of this brand are equipped with fully repairable control modules. As experts note, they are easier to repair than, for example, modules from Electrolux cars. For example, in the Bosch MAXX WFL 1200 washing machine, a universal module labeled SIEMENS 5WK51307 03 is installed.

Below is a diagram of this module, on which we have identified two triacs responsible for the filling valve. In addition to the serviceability of these elements, it is also worth checking the connection contacts of the water level sensor. But it’s better to entrust the repair of the module to a specialist, especially if you don’t even know how to handle a multimeter, not to mention complex electronics. The module for a Bosch washing machine is a rather expensive part; you shouldn’t break it.

Thus, the appearance of an error related to water filling on a Bosch washing machine can be caused by various reasons, from user inattention to a malfunction of the electronic module. And it depends on whether you can eliminate it yourself or not. Good luck!
